Bet Keir put his beer on expenses.

Suella must be pissed. IPSA told her they couldn’t pay fines and they’d merrily paying everyone else’s. Got to love ‘I accidentally paid my fines on my parliamentary expenses card but I’ve repaid them in full since the Independent contacted me’ as an excuse. Of course you did, Bim.

Fladdermus · 27/05/2023 22:54

This is beyond a joke. They've got to go, and they've got to go now. The whole stinking corrupt lot of them.

Lonelycrab · 28/05/2023 00:14

and they've got to go now

Sadly not. It’s going to be a long 18 months unfortunately.

Blossomtoes · 28/05/2023 01:34

This can’t go on for another 18 months. It’s like being held hostage.

Agree.

The one thing I've felt is the worst is not the corruption but the sheer fact they seem to get away with it and there's nothing we can do about it.

Especially as they seem to be stripping our rights whilst increasing theirs. Angry

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2023 07:08

This country feels less democratic by the day.

pointythings · 28/05/2023 08:41

In other news, I've just been threatened with legal action on the 'who will you vote for' thread for politely pointing out that the poster in question was posting lies and misinformation. So if I go quiet, you'll know I'm in jail. Or something.

Tory supporters getting really desperate now.

Blossomtoes · 28/05/2023 08:55

To be fair, that’s poster’s batshit.

pointythings · 28/05/2023 08:57

@Blossomtoes absolutely and completely batshit, but it is also a sign of the times.

Richard Sharp was one of the people who went to Chequers, when indoor mixing was banned, along with his cousin. Two of Carrie’s friends also went and there’s evidence they stayed overnight. BJ spokesman denying ‘two friends’ stayed over. So just the one then.

The loan meetings between Johnson, Blyth and Sharp happened in the Autumn of 2020. Pretty regular catch ups then.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/05/2023 09:18

This was May 21. Carrie’s friends came over a couple of days later.

Still very quiet about the ABBA party. I wonder just how many journalists were there. A lot I’d imagine.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/05/2023 09:25

Also Lord Brownlow of wallpaper fame at some point.

Which makes
Mogg
R Johnson
Sharp & Blyth
Brownlow
2 of Carrie’s friends
the family gathering with the photo they wanted to release of newborn Wilf and the wider family but couldn’t because it showed them breaking the rules.
ABBA party in Downing Street.

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2023 09:25

Maybe setting up that off the books loan guarantee became more complicated than expected.

I said at the time that they were using Chequers to cover up their socialising.

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2023 09:35

NHS workforce plan delayed again as new analysis reveals some A&E departments are spending 80% of their wage bills on costly locum doctors to fill staffing gaps:

Delaying an NHS workforce plan is what has got us in to this mess - as Jeremy Hunt well knows given he was the one criticising the Government for not implementing one.

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2023 09:44

I've lost track of what happened to the Social Care plan, probably the same way as Levelling Up.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/05/2023 09:52

I thought I read yesterday Boris’s social care plan had been ditched.

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2023 09:57

I'm not surprised, just infuriated. 2019 manifesto was clearly pointless. Lining up for another winter of catastrophe for the NHS then. It's no good buying a few extra ambulances and thinking that will fix it.

Yes I am sure I read that too

I t will be quite fitting if greed becomes Johnson's downfall

You were right about social care.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/05/2023 10:35

That’s almost certainly what I saw on Twitter.

It’s not like the problem with the plan was that social care was only an afterthought and healthcare got all the money first.

We need staff and money for social care, staff and money for the nhs and some sort of recognition that covid didn’t just go away and not become an issue but is still increasing demand and affecting staffing and capacity. A good start would be proper ventilation and air filtering (like Belgium & NL I think) firstly in hospitals and then in higher risk areas. Schools would be a good place to start to disrupt transmission chains. It isn’t expensive. Would probably pay for itself in terms is healthcare funding in the long term. As would pay rises for NHS staff.
A few more ambulances and a few more beds won’t cut it. Nor will getting less trained staff to replace doctors. A look at what those doctors who are emigrating are being attracted by would also be a helpful in trying to retain staff.

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2023 11:04

It does feel like social care & pressures on the NHS have just dropped off people's radars.

It will be resurrected in the Autumn and everyone will feign surprise. And absolutely nothing will get done.

Roussette · 28/05/2023 16:37

And here we are on the 40 'new' hospitals...
Liars. They must think we're stupid
