Any medics out there? I'm worried about my husband

He's 50. Had a urine infection with quite a lot of blood in Uribe about 12 days ago. Got antibiotics and the infection resolved, only to come back a three days later: very I'll this time, unable to leave bed even for the toilet. Passing urine ok although with less flow.

New antibiotics, seemed to be working and yesterday went out of the house and ate normally. but awful, awful shivering fits the night before and again last night, then profuse sweating. He's up now but we both sense something is very wrong.

He's under GP care and has some prostate test on Wednesday. I'm worried this could be sepsis or some form of organ failure. I think it's time for hospital but he's reluctant.

You need to get him in the car now - he’s too unwell to think clearly, hence the nonsense about sitting at home for 30 mins.

lampformyfeet · 13/05/2023 10:16

Maybe tell him to get in the car or you’ll phone for an ambulance- that should get him moving.

Museya15 · 13/05/2023 10:16

Sounds like it's gone to kidney, straight to a and e for iv antibiotics.

I had the same symptoms with a kidney infection. It totally affected my decision making as I rang OOH at 2.30 am and said if I still feel unwell could I phone back to see a doctor (back in days when you still got locum home visits at night). I think I was too ill to be sensible.

I hope you manage to get DH seen asap and he’s ok. Sounds either like infection has travelled into his kidney/s or sepsis. Either way it’s a hospital job so I’m glad he’s going. Good luck.

Backtonormalatlast · 13/05/2023 10:20

Hi OP I hope you are on the way to AE . Sepsis doesn’t always involve a high temperature.

SaltwaterSally · 13/05/2023 10:21

Not wishing to stress you out but hoping to help convince him to get moving with sepsis the chance of actually dying increases significantly with each hour that passes. There's such a thing as the golden hour where the best recovery happens if antibiotics are given within the first hour of symptoms. Get him to Google 'sepsis golden hour' if he's dragging his feet. Best of luck hope he's treated and feeling better soon.

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/05/2023 10:26

My brother died of sepsis within 48 hours. This was despite being blue lighted to hospital and pumped full of antibiotics. He was young, fit and otherwise very healthy. It's not worth messing around with this. I can't make that point any clearer.

DustyLee123 · 13/05/2023 10:39

Go to A&E now. I’m a nurse

moose62 · 13/05/2023 10:40

I had a urine infection that didn't clear up. I had no temperature, just hot and shivers and a bad headache. Doctor sent me to A &E where I was admitted straight away and kept on the acute ward fir 3 days with eurosepsus. I then spent a week on another ward. I was really lucky! Don't waste time.

Sapphire387 · 13/05/2023 10:51

I have had sepsis. The 'shakes' are a classic symptom. I also had no temperature earlier on, but this very quickly escalated (after I was admitted to the ICU). I understand from a later conversation with one of the doctors that they had caught me just in time, they said another half hour might have been too late. It is very serious, and sometimes it progresses very quickly. I really hope you two have gone to the hospital by now.

PercivalP · 13/05/2023 10:52

My Dad was like that about going to hospital, he went to bed for a bit instead of going to hospital, but we eventually forced him to go after much messing around. It’s been 8 years this week since we lost him an hour after he arrived at A and E. Some men are just so annoying! The very best of luck, please let us know how he gets on.

ApolloandDaphne · 13/05/2023 10:54

Glad to hear you are going to the hospital. Best not take any risks.

CalatheaHoya · 13/05/2023 10:55

Hospital medical doctor here. UTI followed by worsening symptoms and sweating/fevers sounds like it could be pyelonephritis. Go to urgent care/A&E and say youre worried about worsening infection. The earlier you go, the better before it gets busier in the PM.

Andanotherone01 · 13/05/2023 10:57

A&E. my mum had sepsis from a urine infection recently and we got her to hospital just in time. She was in a rehabilitation centre for a month afterwards

AtlasPine · 13/05/2023 10:59

Sorry some people are being snippy with you when it’s not been your decision to procrastinate. Hope he is in hospital now getting the right treatment and that you’re finding some real life support for yourself too.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/05/2023 10:59

Hope you're on the way to A&E OP...

CalatheaHoya · 13/05/2023 11:00

Go now, he doesnt need half an hour at home he needs assessment and treatment.

Agree with this, some people have spoken as though she is holding back taking a child in.

Iamacatslave · 13/05/2023 11:04

I hope you are now in A&E. Please keep us posted.

KrasiTime · 13/05/2023 11:04

How worrying for you op. I hope you are there & your dh is being seen too.

TrashyPanda · 13/05/2023 11:05

Get to A&E now

i’ve had sepsis - identified at GPs and they sent me straight to hospital and phoned ahead to tell them.

mine was from a wound infection following a hysterectomy and I felt incredibly grim. Just wanted to close my eyes and slip away.

Xrays · 13/05/2023 11:05

I suffer with recurrent urine infections due to kidney issues. He definitely needs to be seen quickly. Hope he manages to get some help.

LiliLil · 13/05/2023 11:07

I hope you’re in A&E, please tell them directly that you are concerned and ask “could it be sepsis?”

Such a worrying time for you I hope you’re ok x

StartupRepair · 13/05/2023 11:09

Hope he is being seen to now
.

TR888 · 13/05/2023 11:12

I've just dropped him off and I'm back home. He didn't want me to wait there with him, especially as we have kids in the house. He was an absolute pain to convince and had to have a row. But at least he's there now.

Thanks for your advice 🙂
