Shops don't give a shit about the coronation, do they?

In Sainsbos today, doing some food shopping but at the same time, thought I would pick up a few coronation souvenirs for my DD to show her grandchildren, etc. Just a cup, teatowel, that sort of thing.
There was just a tiny part of one wall with some bunting, a few t shirts and tablecloths and that was pretty much it.
My earliest royal memory was Charles and Di's wedding and the memorabilia available for that was off the charts. I was especially fond of my Royal Wedding Rubix Cube.
Now I wouldn't call myself a fervent royalist (but I am a bit of one and do follow them) - however, just in terms of the historical significance, it appears that nobody gives a shit?
I appreciate I haven't been into town as I live rurally, so you might all tell me that the shops there are full of the stuff. I just imagined that the supermarkets might have a few things too. (Just for posterity, you understand, not bothered if I have a Charles mug).

The supermarkets are good at selling things people want to buy. I suspect most of them have gauged the apathy levels and didn't order very much... And then when us commoners were invited to swear allegiance to the gob shite on a posh chair and cancelled those orders too.

I couldn’t get past ‘sainsbos’🤢

You can buy a life-sized cardboard cutout of the king in Sainsbury's for £30.

WT actual F.

Ooh, shall I buy a life-sized cardboard cutout of this old rich dude or shall I feed my family this week?

It'll be reduced to £3.99 by next Tuesday.

14 million people living in the uk are in poverty. Needing to use food banks, unable to afford rental properties, unable to properly heat their homes, the NHS is ruined, teachers are striking due to unlivable pay.

The coronation is a disgusting display.

YUP

Wait, are things closing on Saturday ? I’m planning to do all my errands while the yawnfest is on .

snowlady4 · 02/05/2023 18:34

M&S had some coronation stuff on a display at the front of shop- sorry can't specifically remember what it was.
Matalan and Next both had a coronation themed clothing section.
If you would like a few keepsakes for your daughter- try Etsy- they have loads. And the newspapers are bound to have a souvenir magazine to keep.

User18546753 · 02/05/2023 18:34

You have to order from places like Emma Bridgewater, they have loads

Gall10 · 02/05/2023 18:34

I’m a fervent republican (the anti-monarchy sort, nota trump supporter!!) and don’t give a flying fig about this nonsense -sooner they end up like the French royal mob the better in my book!
HOWEVER…. I’m not half looking forward to all the tins of shortbread & luxury biscuits that’ll soon be going cheap!

Fandabedodgy · 02/05/2023 18:36

I am in Scotland and our supermarkets have full on coronation party aisles going.

Scotland is more republican than England so I would have thought there would be more in England.

NeonBoomerang · 02/05/2023 18:36

Are you kidding? I'm sick of seeing that shite everywhere.

This!

The only royal merch I've bought was a commemorative portrait of the Queen that you can stick on an envelope when you send someone a letter. Cost over a quid. It's like they're really cashing in now.

Well they are inviting all manor or royals from all over the world the millions they must bring ti to the country plus the palace will have employed hundreds of local people for catering flowers etc etc that goes into the economy.

It might be all show but it does bring cash.

Amazon have plenty, shops don't usually sell this sort of stuff

BarbaraofSeville · 02/05/2023 18:42

Hopefully people are over the need to buy loads of single use tat at the merest whiff of an excuse.

But admittedly, I'll also be looking in M&S on Tuesday for a cheap Colin and/or shortbread.

Why single use? I take my flags and bunting in, and save them for the next occasion.

So nice that we have the great and the good flying in from all over the world. KC3 is quite the environmentalist.

Do the whole thing on Zoom, or live stream on Twitch.

User18546753 · 02/05/2023 18:44

Mugs aren't single use

mackthepony · 02/05/2023 18:45

See first post

They should have got rid of the Royals when they could like the French had the sense to do
