Absolutely spot on.
The basic scaffolding required for a society to function.

Its why the Tories lost North Shropshire, and yet they don't seem to have learnt anything from it.

FFS they’ve got someone else on talking about stopping the boats now.

I’m switching back.

I asked ChatGPT (v4) to parallel the hammer/nail paradigm with current events. Eventually I got

When the only tool you have is Suella Braverman, every problem is insoluble.

I'm not convinced that ChatGPT isn't aware of the linguistic mischief afforded by the word "tool". As Sherlock Holmes once observed of Watson “You are developing a certain unexpected vein of pawky humour, Watson, against which I must learn to guard myself"

Roussette · 05/05/2023 11:54

Haha... James Cleverley making a right tit of himself.

Followed by Michael Spicer's take on it! 😂🤣😂

"I'm not detecting any groundswell of movement towards labour"
Rishi Sunak. Someone tell him just because he says it doesn't make it true!

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 05/05/2023 12:03

Why are they going on about stopping the boats? Even if you're bothered about the boats surely you realise by now that the tories are utterly incapable of stopping them. Why are they focusing on drawing everyone's attention to an area they have so obviously failed at?

@BringBackCoffeeCreams it's Tories flailing about in desperation. Which is how I like to see them.

countrygirl99 · 05/05/2023 12:15

Because they haven't got anything they've succeeded at to focus on?

"Stop the boats" is merely a "Take back control" des nos jours.

By setting themselves an impossible task, the Tories believe that have hit the motherlode of polling. After all when it fails it can always be somebody elses fault and with a compliant press, you get to go again. That's why there are some people around who are still happy to vote Tory with the excuse they just haven't been able to get going yet. I mean 13 years isn't long, really.

Zonder · 05/05/2023 12:23

Has KS been interviewed by anyone yet? I've heard Sunak and various other Tories, Ed D, some labour MPs but not KS.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/05/2023 12:26

I don’t know if he’s been interviewed but he gave a speech in Medway.

The best bit about that video is that at some point they must have had a conversation about whether they should redo it and someone has gone ‘nah, I’m sure it will be fine.’

The existence of the problem of the boats is the thing that makes people vote for them, this means that they are painted into a corner whereby their only option is to keep the problem going whilst pretending to do something about it.

Roussette · 05/05/2023 12:35

Watching Politics Live... oh deary me, Andrea Leadsom really bad mood, face like thunder, rude, defensive. It's all Putin's fault and Covid of course.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/05/2023 12:36

I don’t remember them blaming the gobal banking crisis when they blamed labour for tanking the economy.

I agree with this, they don't want to solve the problem of drugs it's too useful for them, it's a vast and highly emotive problem which infiltrates almost every aspect of society and as such functions like a multi-dimensional hyperspace cattle prod with which to control the population.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/05/2023 12:55

Brexit dividends incoming from Leadsom. Bet she can’t name any other than CPTPP which doesn’t count.

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/05/2023 12:56

I've said for years that I don't believe they are dealing with drugs. Drugs stop people from thinking and really consider what's happening. The people I've met who have been seriously addicted would in other times have been organising and rioting.

I keep hearing the conservatives describing the results as disappointing- I'd say catastrophic. My understanding is that traditionally labour do better when the numbers are high, low turnout usually works in favour of Conservatives. This was a very low turnout.

Thesharkradar · 05/05/2023 13:08

Agree, the last thing any government wants is a population who are all healthy switched on engaged independent thinkers, that would make their job much much harder!
Far easier for them if most of us are too stressed and overwhelmed to really understand what's going on, or rather to see clearly the mechanisms by which we are all controlled and exploited

SerendipityJane · 05/05/2023 13:24

A paradigm for what is wrong with the UK.

At 10.21am daily, a local train is scheduled to depart at the same instant as the express arrives

Underscores my total lack of interest in any environmental bollocks from this - or any other government. And also a sympathy for those that aren't convinced.

I have not taken a train to a business meeting in 20 years. One really tightwad boss used to have a "train only" policy. Until I submitted expenses for £500 because to get to the meeting in London needed me to set up the previous night and stay in a hotel. Hiring a car for the day was £75+fuel.

I do not think the local election results so far point to a Labour majority government. In 18 months time the serial killing in all but name and parties of Mr Johnson's time will have largely been forgotten, inflation will be a bit lower, and you then have to factor in the impact of ID for voting which will help the Tories. The SNP implosion will be less of a factor too.

Bear in mind we haven't had even half the results. Bear in mind all the areas where no local elections gave been held. I think the polls will narrow, but I don't think this is salvageable for the Tories as long as there is no complacency.

Why is it it that each time I hear its Putin's fault I can't help but think they mean he hasn't paid them enough this time and interfered with his bots.

Blossomtoes · 05/05/2023 13:34

It’s unrealistic to imagine that we have 18 months until a GE. I give it a year at the outside. Nobody wants another winter election.
