Things other people eat that you find strange

Inspired by the many threads I’ve seen over the years about foods YOU eat that other people find weird…

What ‘normal’ foods do other people eat that you just can’t get on board with?

For me, it’s pizza and chips. I think it’s such a bizarre combination for a dinner and wouldn’t ever put the two together. Nothing to do with the carb overload (I love garlic bread and lasagne…), I just think they don’t go! DP very much disagrees and says it’s a perfectly normal combo Grin

@Giggorata

How do you know all ‘fake’ meat tastes weird, unless you have tried them all? And if you have, in fact, eaten them, why criticise others for so doing?

It’s not compulsory - we all have a choice, but these products provide protein which is not always easy to obtain on a vegetarian diet, if you struggle to digest pulses, especially soya beans which are high in protein and contain all the essential amino acids.

Personally, I much prefer to eat something tasty and nutritious (especially a soya based product), than part of a dead animal.

No need to take it so seriously and personally, it's meant to be a lighthearted thread. Each to their own and all that!🙄

Banofee, love banana and toffee but not together!
Wet soggy cake in a trifle, yuk!
I would happily have white/sweet pot chips/jacket wedges or garlic bread with lasagne. I tend to eat pizza on it's own or with salad.

Avocado, I hate it and literally all i see everywhere is people eating avocado, on toast, in salads… just no 🤮

also those that put pot noodle in a sandwhich need to give thier head a wiggle….just why would you?

GreenMarigold · 22/04/2023 22:55

Gummy type sweets like haribo, jelly babies etc. Just so sickly and horrid, I really can’t see the mass appeal they have. I didn’t even like them as a child.

Watched a short documentary about Agatha Christie tonight. When dinner was served in her house, a small jug of single cream was brought to the table. Which she would DRINK during the meal 🤑

Also love avocado, my mum says it's like eating candle wax, how she knows this, I don't know! But it seems my family members are very opinionated on my food choices!
For me it's mince meat, looks like wiggly worms

Longingforthesummer · 22/04/2023 23:21

Bananas, tomato ketchup, honey. That's about it. I eat pretty much anything else and much of the lists above form my core diet.

SpudsandGravy · 23/04/2023 00:09

Shredded wheat. 😳🤮

There's absolutely nothing good about them. Texture, flavour, just makes me gag. DH loves them but he's a weirdo.

Hummas

I read that as humans 😂😂

orangegato · 22/04/2023 21:38

😂 This.

And me - I got a free pack and tried one out of curiosity. A round, pink chewy disc that could probably have doubled as a button on a child's cardigan. Not an edible foodstuff.

Fake bacon, in fact lots of faux meat, made in factories. If you don't want to eat meat, why pretend? It mostly just tastes weird.
Fake butter spreads. I don't think you get margarine any more, do you? Good. Just nasty.
Chilli. I'm just about forcing myself to eat sweet chilli sauce on something, but can't understand any pleasure in ordinary chilli.
Nuts in chocolate. That's just plain wrong.

So many people will disagree about chilli, me includes.

Alcohol/champagne/wine. Tastes vile. I can remember when I flew First Class and they offered me a glass of Krug (quite expensive apparently!) and I had to ask DH to finish it off for me after having one slip. The cabin crew seemed perplexed when I asked for a glass of water instead. Disgusting stuff.

Revolting champagne 😂😂 I loooooove the taste of champagne, prefer the taste of the cheaper one tho luckily haha

Wednesdaysotherchild · 23/04/2023 08:25

Dead animals, so weird!

JustDanceAddict · 23/04/2023 08:25

stir fry - either mushy or undercooked veg.

Prawns. If they lived on land, we'd be putting down powder and hoping they don't get in the house.

🤣Bit late down the thread to laugh. Prawns cocktail ruined forever
