Things other people eat that you find strange

Inspired by the many threads I’ve seen over the years about foods YOU eat that other people find weird…

What ‘normal’ foods do other people eat that you just can’t get on board with?

For me, it’s pizza and chips. I think it’s such a bizarre combination for a dinner and wouldn’t ever put the two together. Nothing to do with the carb overload (I love garlic bread and lasagne…), I just think they don’t go! DP very much disagrees and says it’s a perfectly normal combo Grin

DH eats tinned mackerel fillets in tomato sauce on toast and it's GRIM.

He has now submitted to eating it in the kitchen and washing up / taking the bin out immediately because the smell makes me gip Blush

Sickly sweet cocktails

Chocochick · 22/04/2023 21:30

@Giggorata

How do you know all ‘fake’ meat tastes weird, unless you have tried them all? And if you have, in fact, eaten them, why criticise others for so doing?

It’s not compulsory - we all have a choice, but these products provide protein which is not always easy to obtain on a vegetarian diet, if you struggle to digest pulses, especially soya beans which are high in protein and contain all the essential amino acids.

Personally, I much prefer to eat something tasty and nutritious (especially a soya based product), than part of a dead animal.

Goodness me, do calm down..

I didn't say “all” fake meat, I said, and I quote “It mostly just tastes weird.”.
I am speaking from an informed viewpoint, as I was a vegetarian for many years until I decided not to be, and I ate a lot of meat substitutes and fake meat over the years, about which I am fully able to hold an opinion.

I also asked why. Since when is a question construed as criticism?

Can't people hold a different opinion?

Someone on this thread says that they hate alcohol, especially champagne, which I enjoy. Should I therefore argue with them about it?
sigh.

Percy pigs. The whole concept is monstrous and should be killed with fire.

This is moronic. Moronic and hysterical.

I can only eat dead animals, the delicious bastards escape if I try to eat them alive!

Thank you for your pointless comment 🙄

Chinese food. Ok, probably not all food from China - that's a massive country, with lots of talented chefs, I'm sure I'd like some of it - but your bog-standard Chinese food that you get in the UK. Overly greasy, overly sweet, overly sticky. Don't get the appeal.

Uurrjb · 22/04/2023 21:55

Anything that is ultra processed space food….i mean with an ingredients list of 40/fake meat/ type thing

i enjoy the occasional processed thing though

Chocolatesandroses · 22/04/2023 21:56

This orange chocolate, mint chocolate. What is wrong with er chocolate chocolate.

I was literally going to say this!! Wtf is orange/mint chocolate. It’s so unnecessary

Nellieinthebarn · 22/04/2023 22:05

Fizzy drinks, including alcoholic ones. Just don't get the appeal.

BlackBarbies · 22/04/2023 22:05

Olives
Hummas

chimichangaz · 22/04/2023 22:05

Banana flavoured anything. Blergh. Real bananas I can eat occasionally if almost ripe - over ripe is disgusting.

Pears. Revolting.

Have never eaten sushi and no inclination to.

My friend used to have toast with brown sauce. I used to dip toast crusts in my coffee. Each to their own.

The pp who said why drink instant coffee - I counter with why drink 'real' coffee?

One thing I couldn't understand until I tried it was melted cheese in a bacon sandwich. Heaven.

I think your DH sounds like a sensible chap, because I also love tinned mackerel in tomato sauce. I usually buy it from Lidl ; they obviously sell tons of the stuff, but I did wonder who else eats it. I assumed most people buy it for their cats, but now I know I’m not the only human who likes it.

Chickydoo · 22/04/2023 22:08

Lambs
Piglets
Calves
Any animals really, especially baby ones.

Whichwhatnow · 22/04/2023 22:10

FlySwimmer · 22/04/2023 19:02

Raisins 😖and they’re in so much.

Bananas in things, and banana-flavoured things. So I don’t like banoffee, or banana splits, or banana milkshakes. But will happily eat just a banana.

All of this.

Also cherryade, energy drinks, any form of preserve (jam, marmalade etc) and liquer chocolates.

BlackBarbies · 22/04/2023 22:11

I also don’t understand how people just eat a boiled egg on it’s own. No toast, nothing else with it. Just a plain boiled egg. Bizarre!

Bobshhh · 22/04/2023 22:14

Baked beans. Awful awful things both texture, smell and taste-wise

Flavoured chocolate.

Count yourself lucky. DH sits next to me on the sofa eating various flavours of tinned mackerel, sardines and COCKLES direct out of the tin/jar with a spoon.

The smell makes me ill. Though probably not as much as the smell of the Fridge Raiders he's taken to eating as a snack in our fucking bed while I'm trying to sleep and also not vomit.
