Things other people eat that you find strange

Inspired by the many threads I’ve seen over the years about foods YOU eat that other people find weird…

What ‘normal’ foods do other people eat that you just can’t get on board with?

For me, it’s pizza and chips. I think it’s such a bizarre combination for a dinner and wouldn’t ever put the two together. Nothing to do with the carb overload (I love garlic bread and lasagne…), I just think they don’t go! DP very much disagrees and says it’s a perfectly normal combo Grin

I won’t eat ketchup either. Looks like blood.

345s · 22/04/2023 19:14

Underbaked not undertaker biscuits 😂

bellac11 · 22/04/2023 19:16

Pears. Horrible grainy things
Rubarb. Strips the enamel off my teeth, ditto for spinach in some forms but I like it in others.

Peaches, as someone has said above, the horrible skins.

Horsedoglover59 · 22/04/2023 19:17

Anything strawberry flavoured except real, proper strawberries. Porridge, rice pudding , junket🤢 spam.

Georgyporky · 22/04/2023 19:18

Anything fake

Butter good, marg bad,

Meat good, fake chemical concoction bad.
Sugar, erm, not really good, chemical substitutes worse.

I forgot offal

Artificial sweetners, I wont touch anything with them in

PollyCreo · 22/04/2023 19:18

Tea - sorry to sound like Sheldon Cooper but WHY?

Celery - 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Baked beans - give me the heebie jeebies.

Fried eggs - I've tried and tried but can't get past the brown crusty bits on the outside.

I'm a nightmare when I go for a fry up with friends as most things make me feel sick, I'm sure I have sensory issues!

blueshoes · 22/04/2023 19:20

Cadbury cream eggs - so cloying
Mussels - chewy, just no
Prawns - the texture
Liver, blood, brain, eyes, offal
Chicken backsides
Bitter gourd
Rhubarb
Red berries

So far I love everything mentioned above 🍕 🍟 😁

I worked with a woman years ago who used to have marmalade and cheese in her toast for breakfast - both together. I don't like marmalade at all but with cheese is just weird to me!

Marmalade and cheese for me is a normal combo (see manchego and quince jam as a more refined example 🤣)

Fennel

applebee33 · 22/04/2023 19:26

Kidneys, liver, pate , fish, anything fish based or smelling , olives, caviar , instant mash / smash ?! Fruit or chocolate as part of a savoury dish , why !? Whiskey liqueur sweets , vile

toodlesofoodles · 22/04/2023 19:28

I don't like baked beans but I'll eat them if I have to. It's the juice I think because I don't mind any sorts of beans usually.

Bananas. Hate them. The smell of them when they start to ripen knocks me sick 🤢 but I'll eat banana bread 🤷🏻‍♀️

SquashPenguin · 22/04/2023 19:28

Sheep/ cows/ pigs/ chickens/ fish 🤮

Cm078 · 22/04/2023 19:28

I eat garden peas and baked beans mixed together 🙈 my sister does too, guessing its something we had as kids!

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/04/2023 19:30

Ribs. A rib is a bone, you don't eat bones. Same applies to chicken wings. Wings are for flying not eating. (I don't actually eat any meat on the bone but these two seem utterly bizarre.)

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/04/2023 19:34

I forgot offal

Bizarre people who not could choose a steak pie, steak and ale pie, steak and mushroom pie etc. - but instead CHOOSE a steak and kidney pie. They're usually the same price too, for the 'joy' of swapping some of your lovely steak for offal!

Peaches, I can’t stand the fuzz in my mouth 🤮.

I assumed everyone peeled them like I do! Nectarines are a cross with edible, thin skins, but peaches are furry- why on earth would you eat the skin??? Do you also eat kiwis whole?

Marmalade and cheese for me is a normal combo (see manchego and quince jam as a more refined example 🤣)

My sister used to eat ham and jam sandwiches. My dad thought she meant a ham sandwich and a jam sandwich, not both together!

Irequireausername · 22/04/2023 19:41

Fake meat,
ice cream that's not made with dairy,
real mexican food (I like El Paso though 😂)

illiterato · 22/04/2023 19:42

There's lot of things I'm not keen on (squashes/pumpkin, lamb, offal etc). However, I could eat them if refusing would offend.

The one thing I cannot eat (as in if served at a dinner party by the King I couldn't force myself to eat) is runny egg. Hard boiled = fine. Fried solid= fine. Not solid (including scrambled if not totally overcooked) = sorry no, cannot touch it.

Can't eat mayo or carbonara or steak tartare for this reason as I know it's there.

Energy drinks

emmathedilemma · 22/04/2023 19:44

Cows milk

LubaLuca · 22/04/2023 19:44

Prawns. If they lived on land, we'd be putting down powder and hoping they don't get in the house.

Fixyourself · 22/04/2023 19:44

Milk from a cows tit.
