Bananas?

The look. The taste. The smell. The feel. Just everything!

Typing this while 9 month old DD is happily shovelling huge bits of banana into her mouth 🤮

I can't stand them, I won't eat them and when people have hidden them in thongs I have been sick even if I can't taste them. My mum used to struggle when i was a child as I wouldn't drink the banana flavour medicine. I hate banana flavoured things too. I avoid touching them or being near anyone that is easting one. I am really unfussy but people think it's hysterical I hate them so much.

The disgraceful excuse for knickers, or Australian flip flops? In either case, you may have found it less repugnant on custard, for example.

@Unicorn34 couldn't agree more re: tomatoes. The small and look of fresh tomatoes turns my stomach.

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 22/04/2023 22:57

Discussing things. I hate it when you open a bin at work and a big waft of banana-smell comes out because some unreasonable so-and-so has dumped a banana skin in there

Tomatoes in any shape or form are the fruit of the devil

LoobyDop · 22/04/2023 23:24

Yes! Even the smell of the not-very-ripe ones in the supermarket is revolting. And as for those monstrous people who eat them at their desk and then leave the skin to rot for hours… seriously, do they find it somehow funny that they’re making other people want to murder them?

mrssprout · 23/04/2023 00:00

My whole life I loathed bananas, couldn't touch a peeled one, hated the texture. Three years ago I had a heart/lung transplant. After transplant a banana was on my hospital lunch tray one day & I just looked at it & really wanted to eat it ! I now like bananas !!

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 23/04/2023 00:02

We got a fruit-fly infestation at work owing to people leaving their foul, reeking bananas in their desk drawers.

Not bananas but tomatoes - epitome of evil! I like tomato based sauces etc but not an actual tomato!

Love tomatoes 🍅!!

I hate the texture of a raw tomato, but I don't mind tinned tomatoes and tomato as an ingredient/sauce.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 23/04/2023 00:16

When I was a child there was a lingering idea in my parents' generation that bananas were a huge treat because there weren't any during WW2 rationing so they'd seen them as a massive novelty when they eventually reappeared. Hence bananas often featured in supposed party food, such as trifle. Trifle is an abomination anyway but adding bananas makes a bad thing worse. And heaps of banana sandwiches at children's parties stinking the place out, taking away any appetite for the nicer food. See also: pineapple.

SinnerBoy · 23/04/2023 00:25

The worst thing about trifle is the nauseating soggy sponge biscuits.

The worst thing about trifle is ... everything that goes into trifle. It is a combination of the foulest things known to man plopped together to create a giant, squelching mass of horror.

Who thought that Satan's arse scratchings in jelly was a good Idea?

Your Nan!

(Mine too, to be fair).

MysteryBelle · 23/04/2023 00:34

Sometimes bananas don’t bother me, sometimes yes I can see how they can be repulsive. Same with eggs for me.

Practically everyone aged over 40 in the 1970s 😄

Helendegenerate · 23/04/2023 00:44

I agree that trifle is a disgusting arrangement of pure slop and should be illegal. I call it frightful and always have.
My fruit bowl however is home to 3 ripening 🍌 🍌 🍌 s and a nana butty will be my breakfast in the morning. They are nutritionally rather good you know.

@mrssprout How wonderful you have donor heart and lung !! This begs the question, might it be true that the food preferences and cravings of someone with donated organs can take on those of the donor that they did not have before? I have read this several times but not sure if it is so.

ComputerWifeKaren · 23/04/2023 00:55

Not a fan, but I’m one of those terrible vegetarians whose body goes into shock if I actually consume a fresh fruit or vegetable. I don’t like either and wouldn’t actively ever choose to eat them. Best I manage is pineapple on pizza. Bananas are gross and excessively peely inside and out. If DD eats one, I’m duty bound to tell her it'll give her enough energy to run for 12 minutes Grin

uhtredbebbanburg · 23/04/2023 01:36

Just totally gross. I know they are the ultimate convenient food and I buy them because I don't want DCs to hate them like I do but I pick them up at the supermarket with my finger nails so I don't have to touch them. Everything about them revolts me.

bluebeardswife7 · 23/04/2023 01:54

In year three (before Covid) ds did a project at school about compost which involved leaving a banana skin on the windowsill till it rotted

IDontWantToBeAPie · 23/04/2023 01:55

Bananas are my favourite fruits.

Blueberries freak me out

bluebeardswife7 · 23/04/2023 01:55

What did you learn from that I said? Don't eat bananas' he replied

bluebeardswife7 · 23/04/2023 01:57

It was three years before he added bananas back to his small repertoire of fruit and veg
