Bananas?

The look. The taste. The smell. The feel. Just everything!

Typing this while 9 month old DD is happily shovelling huge bits of banana into her mouth 🤮

I hate them! I used to mash one into my porridge now and then to bulk it out and it was bearable, but couldn't do it now. I always think they smell exactly like shit when I walk past them in the supermarket.

Cravingsweets · 22/04/2023 12:00

I agree! I hate everything about them. Like a pp, I ate one when pregnant and it made me sick. I don't think I loved them prior to that but that really sealed my dislike of them.

I wish I liked them because they're so healthy and easy to eat - no pips or juices going everywhere etc.

TulipTuesday · 22/04/2023 12:01

Yes!! I was made to eat one by an evil dinner lady when I was little before chucking it up on the playground.

I developed a phobia of them to the point where I couldn’t even touch a bunch. I forced myself to get over the phobia when DS1 was born but still couldn’t bring myself to be in the room if he ate one.

I was better with them until DS2 almost choked on a piece of one when he was a toddler so after that they no longer came in to the house.

I could touch a bunch now if I had to but the smell turns my stomach and I have to leave the staff room if someone’s eating one in there.

They are utterly revolting, I’d sooner eat shit 🤮🤮🤮

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 22/04/2023 12:01

Yes - can't stand them. Can't stand banana flavoured things either.

VirginiaQ · 22/04/2023 12:06

I used to know someone who had an actual phobia the bananas. I found out when she was going to a sandwich shop and asked if anyone wanted something bringing back and I asked for any fruity dessert they had. She came back without anything very apologetic as the only fruit dessert was bananas and custard and she couldn't pick it up or carry it back even in a bag.

I was telling my son who has a spider phobia and he was very perturbed saying, 'But they don't even move'!

The banana phobic lady couldn't even really explain what the issue was with bananas or how it was initially triggered.

ShowUs · 22/04/2023 12:10

I love bananas!

Also love eggs and cucumbers.

I prefer squishy food though as I like my cereal to go soft and I’m not a fan of crisps or anything too crunchy.

Itsvalentino · 22/04/2023 12:14

I used to like bananas, but a weaning baby smushing and squelching them through their fingers put me right off. Now I hate them.

Twinklewonderkins · 22/04/2023 11:59

my ex mil once made a Sharwoods jar type chicken tikka masala and padded it out with banana because she was worried it wouldn’t have enough meat to go round.
tasted awful of course and had a mucous like texture …was one of the worst things I’ve ever tasted.

Ah see, a proper banana curry made from fresh is delicious - and I really don’t like bananas either. But yeah, I can’t imagine how awful they’d be just bunged into a jarred sauce.

Felixss · 22/04/2023 12:17

My mum made a smoothie with 2 bananas when I was a childshe yelled at me to drink it. I ended up vomiting 🤢

Isseywith3witchycats · 22/04/2023 12:18

same here it the texture of bananas the slimy bit in the middle sets my teeth on edge, but i dont mind banana flavoured things like toffee and instant whip, as long as they dodnt have real babana in them i didnt mind mashing them up for the kids and all mine like bananas

tailinthejam · 22/04/2023 12:19

I can eat a banana as is.

But sliced, <shudders> that slippery cut surface makes me heave. And as for when they adulterate it and turn it into a banana split or make banoffee pie... Ewww.😫

Felixss · 22/04/2023 12:20

I like banana chips though just not the real slimy things.

CatticusFinch · 22/04/2023 12:20

I actually like bananas but they hate me - give me the most awful IBS stomach pains.

crazeecatlady · 22/04/2023 12:21

@ComtesseDeSpair oooh I do love sliced banana and cucumber and tomatoes to accompany a curry - lovely jubbly

Blossomandbee · 22/04/2023 12:22

I like them when they are only just ripe, still firm and slightly green. Any further along and it's a no. I also can't eat them if they have any damage or a bruise. I also hate the smell when they've gone all sweaty in the plastic packaging.
Makes you wonder if humans are supposed to eat them when they repulse so many people and pregnancy turns people off them Grin

ConsumedByCake · 22/04/2023 12:22

I have hated them all my life. Not just the taste and texture, but the feel of the skin, the smell ... everything about them.

crazeecatlady · 22/04/2023 12:23

But I can't eat a banana fresh from its skin - the smell is awful. When DH eats one of an evening he has to take the skin out immediately. Ugh!

SpringLobelia · 22/04/2023 12:24

Love bananas here. But your post, OP reminded me of the time my autistic DS with sensory and food issues refused to eat bananas. My DM (who liked to take the opportunity to prove to me I was doing things wrong on occasion) persuaded him to eat a slice of banana when I was out of the room one time. I went back in and she crowed; 'Look! He eats bananas for me' at which point DS promptly projectile vomited banana onto the carpet.

(Was the last time she tried to 'prove' anything like that to me again!)

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 22/04/2023 12:25

Yes; they are disgusting.

I wouldn't say repulsed but yes I definitely don't like them much. That claggy texture and they feel kind of slimy as you chew them.

PappedOot · 22/04/2023 12:35

I am also repulsed by bananas. I cannot bear it if someone eats one on the tube straight from the skin. Ugh.

weirdly like a PP I love that fake banana flavour you get in milkshakes

Helendegenerate · 22/04/2023 12:37

Smiling here at the horror so many feel at the mere thought of eating 🍌
I don't eat them unless squashed between two slices of seeded bread, no butter though. I do this every day and the 🍌 has to be soft with speckled yellow skin. I don't eat the skin of course! That would be a bad choice.
Am hiding now as the 🍌 police may be on their way.😂

Mariposista · 22/04/2023 12:40

I like bananas but I have a friend who can only eat a banana sliced - he can’t bite into one. He says it puts his teeth on edge, like nails down a blackboard.

Veryfishy · 22/04/2023 12:49

Don’t like them at all , I think they’re unfit for human consumption
DH , however , eats one every day ( out of the skin 🤢)

ArDi · 22/04/2023 12:50

I love a banana when all the green has just gone - but once they get to the speckly skin stage, then it's banana bread time.
I'll eat anything banana flavoured too.
DS eats fresh ones, but gags at the smell or taste of fake banana flavouring. He threw up on the floor at the Blue Man Group show, as they made vanilla flavoured cream squirt out someone's costume.
DD won't even touch a bunch - I'm fascinated to find so many people feel the same way.
