Bananas?

The look. The taste. The smell. The feel. Just everything!

Typing this while 9 month old DD is happily shovelling huge bits of banana into her mouth 🤮

This thread has amazed me. I love bananas and I've never met anyone in real life who doesn't like them.

Caterina99 · 22/04/2023 15:21

I have found my people! I hate bananas. I always want to like them cos they seem healthy and handy, but just urgh.

I tried hard not to pass my hatred on to my kids, and was successful. So now I live in a banana liking household where presumably typical of kids, they can be all eaten in a few days one week and slowly fester in the fruit bowl mocking me another week.

Like fuck am I making any banana based recipes to use up the going black ones, so then I feel guilty about food waste and like a hyprocrite for encouraging my kids to eat them up when I’ve no intention of touching them myself!

stealthbanana · 22/04/2023 15:24

Aaaaah. My people!

I cannot stand them and black mushy ones make me actually vomit just on smell.

I see it as a sign of my love and devotion to my kids that I allow bananas in the house and encourage them to eat them despite my disgust. Kids know that bananas make me sick and they are bemused by it!

Whiteroomjoy · 22/04/2023 15:28

I like them. My DS loved them. Favourite baby food until 12 months.
then
overnight hated them. Really really hates them. Has a very sensitive banana detector in his nose that can smell them a mile off 🤣🤣he’s 29 now !

Whiteroomjoy · 22/04/2023 15:30

Conversely same child / baby hated peas! How can you hate peas ? 🤦‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️hated them with vengeance till he was 23.
Thennsuddenly decided by were k. Now really likes them🤣🤣

Cosycover · 22/04/2023 15:31

Love them.
I have banana on toast often.

The fact you've used the word 'shaft' with banana has just unlocked a new level of repulsion in me.

It did in me and I like bananas - it’s he fruit not shaft
me thinks the lady doth protest too much and clearly associates bananas with something entirely different? Maybe sex dead and condom 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

The thought of eating peas makes me really queasy. Husband loves them, but I won’t allow them in the house

simbobs · 22/04/2023 15:42

The only fruit I will not eat. I can't bear the smell or texture. I never liked them, even as a child.

It's the texture. Ditto beans and sweetcorn.

Love bananas though. Apart from when they're a bit black.

I love a banana milkshake but can’t eat bananas at all

I thought that was just me!

AngelinaFibres · 22/04/2023 15:45

When I was pregnant I had hyperemesis. Your sense of smell is hugely heightened. Bananas smell just the same as the smell of really wet dog. Absolutely revolting. I used to have to cover my nose in the fruit and veg part of the supermarket because the smell made me heave.

ohsuzannah · 22/04/2023 15:46

And those strings, right? 😱

AngelinaFibres · 22/04/2023 15:49

I like bananas now but mushrooms are the work of Satan. The smell of them cooking makes my mouth fill with saliva but not in a good way. Mushroom risotto just makes me think someone has cooked a load of slugs. Absolutely turns my stomach. Never buy them.

reddingweddy · 22/04/2023 15:49

Bananas are just lumps of evil tied up with string.

I had to fill the banana shelves a few times when I worked in a supermarket. So not only did I have to handle the beastly things, I had to open the big boxes and massive plastic bags they arrive in and worry about whatever might come scurrying up my arms 🤮🫣

I haven't liked them since I was a child either. I even went as far as telling all my teachers at school I was allergic to them in order to avoid them at snack time 😂

I like bananas in things, like chopped up with other fruit and yoghurt, or in cakes. I like banana flavoured things. I could not eat a banana just on its own, out of the skin like DH does it makes me feel 🤢.

Appalonia · 22/04/2023 15:55

I don't mind the taste but that slimy texture can really make me gag! Bit similar to raw tomatoes.

tiger2691 · 22/04/2023 16:02

PrincessHoneysuckle · 22/04/2023 16:51

The fact you've used the word 'shaft' with banana has just unlocked a new level of repulsion in me.

I'll go for another level!

I work in a nursery. Giving babies 'round cut' bananas is a choking hazard so we split them longways. To do this you get one naked, locate the centre at the bottom, then slide your finger up inside. They naturally (if you're careful) split into 3 lengths. I showed this to one member of staff and she told us a story about an ex who had certain interests...

MummyToZ · 22/04/2023 17:25

I'm going to pretend I didn't read that @Mysterian

I don't like bananas either. I used to but went right off them for some reason.

SinnerBoy · 22/04/2023 17:29

I really hope that Mysterian is talking about how they deal with bananas in that scenario....

bigbluebus · 22/04/2023 17:38

I eat virtually anything - except bananas. Can't abide the texture of them. It makes me gag. I don't mind banana flavoured food but just can't eat a banana. DS also has the same aversion. He was once made to eat a piece of banana at school during a fruit tasting session. I had filled in the 'consent' form stating that he would not eat banana but wasn't allergic to them. The teacher thought it would be a good idea to insist he tried some. Unsurprisingly he threw up and I got a phone call to collect him as he'd been sick. I refused to keep him off school for 48 hours though as we all knew exactly what had caused him to vomit!
