Bananas?

The look. The taste. The smell. The feel. Just everything!

Typing this while 9 month old DD is happily shovelling huge bits of banana into her mouth 🤮

So glad I'm not the only one in the anti banana club!

Those of you who do like them, well, there must be something seriously wrong with you...

The grossest thing is banana in smoothies! So hard to avoid, I won't drink it even if it's 1/4 of a banana or whatever.

I only eat them when they're JUST ABOUT ripe. Anything more, yuck!
And avoid almost all banana flavoured things except for: fried banana fritters in SE Asia, they tend to be much thinner slices and extremely crispy batter compared to the fat squodgy dumpling things here.

namelessfornow · 22/04/2023 12:55

Oh, but random: try writing on a banana skin with a biro... SO SATISFYING.

Yes, really is 😂

Kindofcrunchy · 22/04/2023 12:57

If I was in a position of political power I would ban bananas. And everything banana flavoured. Groo.

Mysterian · 22/04/2023 12:58

I love bananas. Not when they start to go black though. And I hate the stringy bits that sometimes stick to the shaft. I'm not sure anybody does. Makes me wonder why they put them in.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 22/04/2023 12:58

DarkDarkNight · 22/04/2023 11:38

I can only handle banana at a very specific stage. The skin must be yellow with a tiny bit of green at the top. Tom green and they are still hard in the middle, any brown at all and I can’t eat them. They go all powdery and I can’t bear it.

Exactly this. And the stringy bits 🤮

also can’t stand bananas in anything or banana flavoured anything

The fact you've used the word 'shaft' with banana has just unlocked a new level of repulsion in me.

FortheBeautyoftheEarth · 22/04/2023 13:01

My husband really can't stand them. It's interesting this seems to be quite a common repulsion. Personally i'm fine with bananas 😁

HATE them. The stringy bits, the smell, slimey shiney slices. Fucking gross.
I actively sweat and palpitate passing the banana section in a supermarket.

DD had a banana skin flung in her face at a zoo once, not surprising she hates bananas too.

ExtremelyDetermined · 22/04/2023 13:05

I love them

GrouchyKiwi · 22/04/2023 13:15

Bananas are the second worst fruit, unless they're cooked in a cake/muffin/fritter.

Prescottdanni123 · 22/04/2023 13:19

I like banana flavoured things - cakes, muffins, ice cream, banana bread, milkshakes etc but I cannot eat a whole banana as it is.

Fuckthebucket · 22/04/2023 13:37

I have found my banana hating people!

They’re gross. I have to avoid the aisle in the supermarket with them on because the smell turns my stomach.

3 year old LOVES them so I usually choose the pre-packaged ones so I don’t have to touch them. But I can unpeel one for him, but looking forward to the day he can do it himself.

And god help anyone who waves a banana peel at me. The last person who did that is on my shit list.

Gymspiration · 22/04/2023 13:52

Hi there
I appear to be lost. Could someone direct me to the 'cauliflowers are evil' thread please.
Many thanks
Gym

Vinorosso74 · 22/04/2023 13:55

Me too! I have tried to like them but no. Can't stand the taste, texture or smell.

Slitheringheights · 22/04/2023 14:10

I loved them before I had my children, banana sandwiches where my favourite. Then I fell pregnant 13 years ago. Since then they make me feel sick. I fancy one but really can’t stomach them

Slitheringheights · 22/04/2023 14:10

My two children hate them too

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 22/04/2023 14:16

I love them and eat them in all stages of ripeness, at least one a day but often two.

Granary bread, nicely toasted. Mashed banana. A sprinkling of brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. Perfect.

Helenahandkart · 22/04/2023 14:22

One side of the fruit and veg aisle in my local supermarket is entirely bananas for about 10 metres. On the opposite side are all the other vegetables that I need to buy, so I have to run the banana gauntlet. It is no exaggeration to say that to me it smells worse than dog crap.
Bananas shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

YES!!!!

I dont even know when it happened, as I used to love them. But now... Ugh. I can barely look at them! The smell, and what I imagine the taste to be... (I havent eaten one in YEARS).
When everyone and their dog was making banana bread during lockdown I was actually disgusted looking at my social media 😂

JoBrodie · 22/04/2023 14:49

I like bananas*, can't stand mangoes though.

*For the brief four or five hours that they're at the exact level of tolerable ripeness. After that it's into the blender they go, for conversion to banana muffins. To be fair they don't need much blending by then but the oats and walnuts do.
