Someone asked me this question hypothetically if you had no children and you were only destined for one child what would you choose if you had the chance?

Girl but I love mine all equally

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 21/04/2023 18:39

Girl, but have mixture of both and love them all equally but differently.

I find this thread so confusing 😂 because I just don’t get it. Why do people want one sex more than another. Is it about sex or the things that people assume come with that sex (eg buying clothes aimed at the sex/doing activities stereotypically associated with that sex).

Before now I don’t think I realised so many people had an absolute preference.

I wanted a boy and got a boy. But you get what you are given and when they are small they are just babies or small children so I don't think of them as being different.

ChiChaNaYubi · 21/04/2023 18:50

I desperately wanted a boy and got a girl. And she was so awesome that I was gutted when I found out number 2 was a boy! However he is absolutely precious and I adore them both. I absolutely would be happy either way.

MintyCedric · 21/04/2023 18:56

A girl, and that’s what I got.

Having said that if I could have guaranteed it my choice would have been to have a boy first, then a girl (I’m an only child and have always wished I had a big brother…rose tinted specs I’m sure!)

I just felt I’d be a better ‘girl mum’.

My relationship with my own mum had gotten more challenging in adulthood but she was great and we were close when I was growing up and I suppose part of me wanted that experience with a daughter of my own.

ALongHardWinter · 21/04/2023 19:01

I've only got the one child,a girl. I really wanted a girl,so I'm happy. 😊

Spiderboy · 21/04/2023 19:01

Before kids, I wanted a girl. I’d say boy now.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/04/2023 19:07

I always wanted to have boys, and I have two lovely teenage sons...😊

DrHousecuredme · 21/04/2023 19:08

I'd have liked a girl if you asked me 11 years ago, but I got a boy and I wouldn't change him for the world now.

Because I think I understand the experience of being a woman more than a man. Because in the western world it’s girls that tend to be closer to their families when older.

Boy, so loving and uncomplicated.

This

Girl. Tbh I never understand why women would actively prefer a boy, what the appeal is (obviously pre having them and falling in love with them).

Coffeeandbourbons · 21/04/2023 19:16

just out of interest - if you had been guaranteed a bright, caring, happy, popular, successful child, would you all have been as strong in your preference as to whether it was a boy or girl?

Hugasauras · 21/04/2023 19:16

Girl. I have two DDs which is utterly perfect and what I hoped for.

Men are funnier than women (to me), and take themselves less seriously. They’re less vulnerable than girls and are less likely to go NC with you over something minor, they’re just emotionally a bit tougher

I see.

Im female and have a terrible relationship with my mother but an okish one with my dad. Also my husband is very close to his mum. so maybe that why I don’t think in the same terms. Though I do see lots of women who are close to their mum so I may have felt differently if I had experienced that mother/daughter closesness.

My experience has been the complete opposite, the majority of men in my family have been pathetically weak minded and emotionally draining.

Unfortunate!

kenadams86 · 21/04/2023 19:24

I always wanted a girl. I ended up with 2 girls then went on to have a boy.

I was not prepared for how amazing boys are. Now I have a boy I'd happily have all boys but I wouldn't change a thing. It's their personality that matters xx

Lampzade · 21/04/2023 19:24

Girl

ShowUs · 21/04/2023 19:25

My DD is the best thing in the world and I wouldn’t trade her for anything.

As a female single parent it’s definitely easier having a child of the same sex, especially when it comes to public toilets and changing areas.

I don’t think it’s possible to answer this question as either sex is fine.

No preference. All I want is to be able to carry a Baby to term
