Someone asked me this question hypothetically if you had no children and you were only destined for one child what would you choose if you had the chance?

Girl.

I wanted a boy and got a boy.

In fact one of my (many) reasons for not going for a second child is that I really don't want a girl.

Do you mind if I ask why?
mod course you don’t have to answer. I just find it interesting to prefer one sex child over the other

LBFseBrom · 21/04/2023 17:08

I have only one child though when I gave birth I intended to have more.

Neither I nor husband minded which sex and were both delighted with our baby. I still am :-.

Wherethewildthymeblows · 21/04/2023 17:09

Before I had any, I always wanted a boy. Now they are adults, I think I have become closest in many ways to my daughter.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/04/2023 17:11

Before I got pregnant I had a slight preference for a boy, as my sister had a baby boy. But I wasn’t really bothered. When I was pregnant again I had a slight preference for a girl.

I have 2 boys.

Tresfren · 21/04/2023 17:12

I would have said boy in the past but I'm pregnant with my first and its a girl. Just want her to be healthy and happy.

So worried I'll project stuff onto her though and be a rubbish mum tbh. I had a hard time as a little girl and had so many hang ups and felt so misunderstood.

Love my boys but as adults they do their own thing and are only seen or heard from when they remember they have a Mum or need something, my Daughter is never off the phone.

That’s exactly why I like having boys 😂

I so badly wanted a little girl and got my DD through IVF this year

Derrymum123 · 21/04/2023 17:14

Either. Have both and I genuinely can say I have no preference. I would let nature decide and be happy they were healthy.

TerrazzoChips · 21/04/2023 17:14

Before having children given a choice I’d have gone girl but having had a boy I wasn’t disappointed or sad at all (in fact that surprised me as I thought I might have been). If I have a second and got to pick I’d pick a girl but my baby DS shows me I’d be happy with a second boy too.

Thank you 🥰

That is a very odd question and not something I would even want to consider. All children are individuals.Their sex is probably the least interesting thing about them!

Badleg85 · 21/04/2023 17:17

Girl, dh and I both wanted girls and we've got 2

Sarah2891 · 21/04/2023 17:18

Definitely a girl

CurlewKate · 21/04/2023 17:19

Girl. Now I'm going to check if anyone's talking about having a boy for their partner's sake.....

MilkshakeEarthquake · 21/04/2023 17:19

Girl, I am surprised so many are saying boys as whenever there is a gender disappointment thread its pretty much always about boys!

MrsHemsworth · 21/04/2023 17:21

I think my husband would've preferred a son at the time, whereas I had no preference but always thought I'd have a boy. I gave birth to a girl and now we can't imagine it any other way.

Having been told that a second child is highly unlikely, and it sounds like it was a miracle we had one at all, we're just really thankful.

35965a · 21/04/2023 17:23

Girl.
I have a boy and a girl, I feel so lucky because I always wanted one of each.

HouseofGods · 21/04/2023 17:23

Boy. I still had a preference for a boy with DC2 (DC1 was a boy) whereas DH had no preference second time round.

EasterBreak · 21/04/2023 17:23

A boy.

Horsedoglover59 · 21/04/2023 17:25

I don't have my own children, and never thought I really wanted them, but I did sometimes think I'd like to have a daughter, blonde haired, and call her Laura.
But I'm very happy with my nearly step children, and nearly step grand-children.

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 21/04/2023 17:25

Boy.

SusanSHelit · 21/04/2023 17:25

Before dc i probably would have said girl, though I genuinely didn't have a preference because I had no intention of becoming a parent.

Now i have a boy and he is, to coin a cliche, the absolute light of my life. And I'm glad I have a boy rather than a girl for the perhaps quite selfish reason that his life likely to be easier by virtue of the fact that he will be a man and not a woman

SoupDragon · 21/04/2023 17:26

I think some people are missing that this is hypothetical and not related to the children you already have. Obviously no one is going to want to change or pick from the children they l ready have!
