New Harry Potter TV adaptation: What details are you hoping get included?

Things that weren't in the film adaptations, either due to technology not being available to show it on film, budget, or cutting due to run time.

Little detail: in the Philosopher's Stone, one of the ways the Hogwarts letters are delivered to the Dursley house is rolled up inside a dozen eggs, passed through the window to Aunt Petunia (as the door is already nailed shut). I would love to see Aunt Petunia cracking open eggs and finding a Hogwarts letter inside each one.

Big detail: The whole scene in which the Weasley family attempt to come get Harry from Privet Drive ahead of the Quidditch World Cup, by connecting their fireplace to the Floo network, then can't get out as it's an electric fire, end up blasting half the living room apart and Fred & George "accidentally" let Dudley eat a Ton Tongue Toffee.

What's yours? One big detail and one little detail allowed each!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 18/04/2023 09:52

I bloody loved Oliver Wood. 😍He could be somewhere in the new series!

I think we need to be realistic about casting.

This is a ten year project, so anyone signing up for Dumbledore, Hagrid, McGonagall or Snape will need to be committed to the full run. That’ll mean potentially rejecting other projects that might interest them for a decade, depending on shooting schedule. Kind of like Game of Thrones- Sean Bean was the only well known face when it kicked off, and he was knocked off sharpish!

Then there will be people wary of making a professional connection to JKR. She herself might be Teflon (Terflon 🤓) but there will be plenty of established actors who just couldn’t be arsed with the agro they’d get.

I reckon there will be a few established actors in more minor roles like Mad Eye or Rita Skeeter, but the guts of the cast won’t be household names.

I think we need a campaign to get James Derfuss into this, he could be Snape or Filch.

Oliver Wood in the films was one of my first real crushes. He is still very lovely 😅

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 18/04/2023 10:04

Oliver Wood was quite an influence on Harry, with being his Quidditch captain. I loved him seeing Harry at the Quidditch World Cup and telling him that he'd signed to a team - it felt like a proper story arc for the lad.

In fact, thinking about it, I'd really like an almost word-for-word adaptation of the books., although I'm sure there are some bits I'd prefer left out I can't really think of many.

And Maggie Smith!

GinUnicorn · 18/04/2023 12:44

I think Kelly MacDonald was in it two - although only for a moment. Wasn’t she Helena Ravenclaw?

GrandTheftWalrus · 18/04/2023 12:48

Kelly Mcdonald played an English character and Maggie Smith is English as well although her mum was from Glasgow which is probably why she nailed the accent.

Yes, sorry, I meant the character not the actress.

wejammin · 18/04/2023 20:45

I'd like Henry Cavill as Lockhart, Ben Whishaw somewhere just to look at 🤣, Sarah Lancashire as Mrs Weasley, Lena Headey as Bellatrix, Julie Hesmondalgh as Professor Sprout.

REP22 · 19/04/2023 12:32

Henry Cavill as Sirius.

Fudge's lime green bowler hat.

CampervanKween · 19/04/2023 12:52

Henry Cavill as anything really as long as there's lots of him 😁

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 19/04/2023 17:30

I think Ben Wishaw could do an admirable Quirrell.

ObiWanKanobi · 19/04/2023 18:30

Ben Wishaw would be a great Quirrell!

We know Henry Cavill can rock a blonde wig so how about a delicious Lucius Malfoy.

Lesley Manville for Umbridge.

I really hope they include more of Voldemort's back story and how he managed to acquire the Horcruxes.

SoManyCreepyBears · 21/04/2023 19:45

Ooh good Peeves news I think!

GrandTheftWalrus · 21/04/2023 21:02

I wish there was a way to see Rik Mayall as Peeves. When I first read Philosopher's Stone first thing I thought of when i read the line "ikkle firsties, what fun!" I pictured him saying it like Drop Dead Fred.

MeinKraft · 21/04/2023 21:08

Aiden Turner for Snape!

Ageee, can definately see him as sirius. He has a gauntness about him that would suit the character too.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 22/04/2023 12:34

Is he the Poldark bloke?

Is he the Poldark bloke?

Yes, and the vampire from Being Human. I think he'd be an excellent Sirius!

AmyandPhilipfan · 22/04/2023 13:57

He would but he's too old now. To be true to the books the actors for Sirius, Snape, Remus and Peter Pettigrew need to be early 30s. And when they show Harry's parents in photos and the Mirror of Erised they need to be actors in their early 20s.
