New Harry Potter TV adaptation: What details are you hoping get included?

Things that weren't in the film adaptations, either due to technology not being available to show it on film, budget, or cutting due to run time.

Little detail: in the Philosopher's Stone, one of the ways the Hogwarts letters are delivered to the Dursley house is rolled up inside a dozen eggs, passed through the window to Aunt Petunia (as the door is already nailed shut). I would love to see Aunt Petunia cracking open eggs and finding a Hogwarts letter inside each one.

Big detail: The whole scene in which the Weasley family attempt to come get Harry from Privet Drive ahead of the Quidditch World Cup, by connecting their fireplace to the Floo network, then can't get out as it's an electric fire, end up blasting half the living room apart and Fred & George "accidentally" let Dudley eat a Ton Tongue Toffee.

What's yours? One big detail and one little detail allowed each!

Little detail: the Prime Minister scene at the start of (was it?) Half Blood Prince?

Big detail: everything that was missing in the Goblet of Fire, not least the fact that Harry apparently just found Crouch dead, went "Oh dear" and wandered off for it never to be mentioned again!

There’s a deleted scene in the film where Petunia is cracking eggs with the messages inside. I think it’s on Youtube.

The American film of Sorcerer stone is different, not least because they had to use sorcerer rather than philosopher but there’s a scene in that where Aunt Petunia was dying Dudley’s clothes grey for Harry’s uniform when he was going to Stonewall High.

I really hope they don't allow people to fly, either. I was so disappointed the films showed them flying around without broomsticks. It kind of defeats the purpose of flying lessons if you can just learn to fly by yourself.

Just saw Elliot Page might play Harry! That would be fab and also people would stop going on about JK hating trans people.

I wish there was a way to see Rik Mayall as Peeves. When I first read Philosopher's Stone first thing I thought of when i read the line "ikkle firsties, what fun!" I pictured him saying it like Drop Dead Fred.

Mackenzie Crook as a possible alternative? No Rik of course....

When I picture Peeves when reading the books, I always picture Rik as Drop Dead Fred. Even down to the suit and hair.

ObiWanKanobi · 22/04/2023 16:20

I hope JKR makes a cameo. Maybe as Rita Skeeter, that would be fun.

Well they're 25 years too old! Would have to be James if anything.

They are in their 30s!
How would they play the part of an 11 year old?!

Good point. James potter perhaps.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 22/04/2023 17:30

Too old (and too female). James was 21 when he died.

Elliot looks pretty young in the picture suggested but let’s see

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 22/04/2023 17:39

Sorry, no way that's the face of a 21 year old!

I actually think Elliott Page would make a great Tonks. But obviously wouldn't want to.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 22/04/2023 19:52

Although EP is probably too old for Tonks

GinUnicorn · 22/04/2023 19:58

Pretty sure jK will want a British cast so I doubt EP will be involved.

I would love Regé-Jean Page as Lockehart. I always figured Lockhart should be drop dead gorgeous.

Buffypaws · 22/04/2023 20:45

I cannot believe people are suggesting that a Canadian who played a pregnant teenage girl 16 years ago would make a good Harry Potter

Why would that be 'fab'? How on earth could that look at all realistic? A 30 odd year old female playing an 11 year old male?

L1ttledrummergirl · 22/04/2023 21:09

Hermionies hair and teeth being more like the book.
Harry's hair growing by itself after haircuts.

I always imagined the characters having their own sense of fashion, so standing out from muggles, a bit like putting someone dressed from the 60s or 80s into elizabethan or victorian England. Yes to the robes when in school.

I would love for it to be true to the books. I say that a lot though (all seven books on Narnia done as they were written would also be amazing). I live in hope.

Yep! I really wish they'd release the footage.

I honestly can't think of anyone that can play peeves.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/04/2023 22:17

In the books, they wear wizard robes the whole time they are at school (possible they wear muggle clothes on weekends).

In the movies, they only wear robes when inside the classrooms. It's annoying.

Why would the Wesley's even have muggle clothing?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/04/2023 22:17

In fact there's even a point in the books when Mr Weasley has to dress as a muggle and he looks ridiculous.

Jourdain11 · 22/04/2023 22:23

Oh, the campsite bit in Goblet of Fire! With old Archie wearing a flowery nightdress, which he insists will allow him to pass as a muggle because he got it in a muggle shop!

Jourdain11 · 22/04/2023 22:25

I'd be interested to know if Hermione in the TV series will be mixed race or black. When a black actress was cast in the play, there was quite a fuss and JK pointed out (fairly) that the books never specify that Hermione is white.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/04/2023 22:32

The book describes Hermione as having "frizzy, untamable dark hair". I wonder if this then poses an issue of being insulting to young girls with afro hair/texturism, if they do go with a black actress.
