New Harry Potter TV adaptation: What details are you hoping get included?

Things that weren't in the film adaptations, either due to technology not being available to show it on film, budget, or cutting due to run time.

Little detail: in the Philosopher's Stone, one of the ways the Hogwarts letters are delivered to the Dursley house is rolled up inside a dozen eggs, passed through the window to Aunt Petunia (as the door is already nailed shut). I would love to see Aunt Petunia cracking open eggs and finding a Hogwarts letter inside each one.

Big detail: The whole scene in which the Weasley family attempt to come get Harry from Privet Drive ahead of the Quidditch World Cup, by connecting their fireplace to the Floo network, then can't get out as it's an electric fire, end up blasting half the living room apart and Fred & George "accidentally" let Dudley eat a Ton Tongue Toffee.

What's yours? One big detail and one little detail allowed each!

Bella Ramsey might be a good shout for Tonks.

It'll be interesting to see whether people will decline to take roles as some sort of stand against JKR

Stephen Fry for Dumbledore

I'll stop now

Also I reckon Tom Hiddleston would be a really good Tom Riddle/Voldemort! The age thing is annoying though I suppose.

startrek90 · 29/04/2023 20:05

I'm sorry no, I love Idris Elba but not as Dumbledore. However I would love him to be mad eye moody though. He would be awesome.

I really, really hope they bring Jamie Campbell Bower and Toby Regbo back as young Dumbledoore and Grindelwald. They were literally the best 5 minutes of the whole fantastic beasts series.

MadEyeJudy · 29/04/2023 23:32

Just putting it out there but I would LOVE the OG 'Horrible Histories' / 'Ghosts' / 'Yonderland' lot cast as something ....the Hogwart's Ghosts perhaps????? ANYTHING!!!

doadeer · 30/04/2023 07:13

I love Idris but he is not dumbledore!

ObiWanKanobi · 30/04/2023 07:40

I love Idris too but he is not a Dumbledore. I like the suggestion from pp that he could be a mad eye moody.

Lady Gaga as Professor Trelawney.

CandlelightGlow · 30/04/2023 08:33

Idris could also be the prime minister from the final book!

CandlelightGlow · 30/04/2023 08:33

Minister for Magic, I mean, of course

I want both Michael Sheen and David Tennant in it. Really don’t know who as though but I think they’d be amazing in any role.

What about Cornelius Fudge Rufus Scrimgeour respectively?

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 30/04/2023 10:19

Michael Sheen could do a good Fudge I think.

I'd love to see Tom Hiddleston in this as..well, anything really, but I think he's that awkward age; too old to be any of the kids or their parents, and too young to be a teacher. I think he'd be a good Snape, actually.

Needhelp101 · 30/04/2023 10:41

I am so loving this thread 😍

Idris is in his fifties (and yes, he looks damn well on it) but surely too young for Dumbledore? Agree he'd be an amazing Mad Eye!

And yes please to Michael Sheen and David Tennant. Quite frankly, they should be in every bit of British drama.

Ruth Wilson as Professor McGonagall?

Jourdain11 · 30/04/2023 10:47

Kit Connor (Nick from Heartstopper) would be a good Charlie Weasley.

aSofaNearYou · 30/04/2023 10:55

Tom Hiddleston is in his fourties' so he's older than the teachers are supposed to be. I've always thought he'd be a good fit for Lupin.

I think we're most likely to see the sort of well known names discussed here in more minor, recurring roles rather than characters that would be needed every season. Michael Sheen as Fudge is a great shout!

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/04/2023 11:58

Sean Bean for Dumbledore?

ObiWanKanobi · 30/04/2023 12:00

That could work if they age him up a bit. He has a fatherlyness to him and the twinkly blue eyes. Dumbledore also snuffs it eventually which Sean Bean is very good at.

nilsmousehammer · 30/04/2023 12:04

Yes poor chap, he has quite a line in dying heroically.

Sean Bean for Dumbledore?

I don't imagine Dumbledore being from Sheffield.

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/04/2023 15:06

I'd love to see Patrick Stewart in it as well, maybe as Olivander, or Barty Crouch Senior. Both very different characters but I think he'd be good in either.

Patrick Stewart as the sorting hat.

Are the teachers' ages ever stated? Apart from those that, like Snape, were at Hogwarts with parents of the current intake, we have no idea how old they were. And Snape (although Alan Rickman was too old) was at school with Lily and James, and they had Harry at 21, by the time he's 11 Snape would be thirty twoish, and I reckon Tom Hiddleston could carry off mid-thirties!

Yes that's true, I was just talking about their parents peers really.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 30/04/2023 18:53

I dunno, Tom Huddleston is looking older and older these days. Hair thinning and lost any youthful face fat, he's starting to look a bit gaunt. Maybe he could do Voldemort instead??
