How many frying pans do you own?

Having a discussion with DM about kitchens and she's having a bit of a moan about how I have more cupboards than she does and she's really struggling for space. I suggested if she had less stuff... she'd have more space, but she's adamant she doesn't have much at all. I don't think she's got rid of anything in 30 years, just added to it.

For example she has 15 frying pans. She lives alone, never has guests for dinner.

I have 4. We're a family of 4.

So how many do you have? I include woks and griddle pans in this.

One.

BarbaraofSeville · 09/04/2023 16:22

I don't think you need a MN survey to illustrate that 15 frying pans is about a dozen too many for a woman who lives alone and doesn't have guests.

We have 4, 7 if you count the various wok type pans and I think that is too many. We could definitely get rid of the biggest wok and 1 or 2 of the frying pans, but that would require DP to cook steak and eggs in the same pan, which probably won't happen (we don't generally wash the frying pans so they need to be kept in a use able state for what they are used to cook, the other frying pan is my omelette pan so we need three different pans).

A ridged one for those fancy bar effects
a big wok type but non stick and with a lid , my favourite pan
a small wok
a crepe pan ( bought by mistake by DH but surprisingly useful for….pancakes)
the workhorse 26 cm used all the time and replaced every two years

three large ones , but only because we used to have two houses and when we put them together I couldn’t bear to throw any of the large, copper expensive ones away

3 plus 1 wok

limitedperiodonly · 09/04/2023 16:25

6 - not counting the shallow Le Creuset casserole that I use to start things off that need frying. I don't use the wok much but I wouldn't get rid of it because it's a very good one and has its purpose.

There are two of us and I do a lot of cooking that sometimes requires more than one frying pan, or size of frying pan at once. Hence, why I have them and other kitchen implements plus various items of crockery, cutlery and and glassware.

Fifteen frying pans for one person seems a lot, especially if they are all the same. But 30 years ago, a couple of months before I married, an experienced bride in my office of, ooh six weeks told me solemnly that I didn't need more than two saucepans. I knew that was ridiculous even then.

Family of 3. We have 2 large frying pans, 1 omelette pan and a wok.

TwoBlueFish · 09/04/2023 16:27

5 - 1 large, 2 small, 1 wok, 1 griddle

SunUp · 09/04/2023 16:30

A tiny one egg sized one.
A cast iron griddle for steaks.
A normal regular size one.

Word of advice, never buy a ceracraft frying pan. They're the biggest waste of money ever.
Your supposed to be able to fry stuff in it with little or no oil.
Eggs fried in it with little or no oil just slide out of it, perfectly cooked according to the advert.
Everything and I mean everything sticks to it, no matter how much oil you use!
£35 in the bin! ☹️

Out of interest, if Mother has 15 frying pans, how many saucepans has she got?
I have:
2 sauté pans - one from TK Maxx and used all the time, and another unfavourite one.
1 large and 1 mini frying pan.
1 large and 1 small wok - rarely used.

OnLockdown · 09/04/2023 16:38

I've got two. One shallow and one deep. But I really want a smaller omelette/pancake one.

Sandysandwich · 09/04/2023 16:38

2
One normal medium sized non stick
One massive cast iron

BHRK · 09/04/2023 16:41

6

Not as bad with saucepans. I think she has a set of 3 plus 2 milk pans.

I know she has enough cutlery for 12 people and dinner sets for the same number. Then there's countless things like casserole dishes, baking trays etc. She really needs to declutter.

I do sympathise with your mum though. I have a massive weakness for crockery (plates, side plates and bowls) and have:
12 place setting of everyday white
6 place very expensive special occasion setting
and 3 x 4 place settings that I have bought because they look pretty.
Plus associated serving bowls, dessert plates etc!

I also need to declutter.

CatNamedBob · 09/04/2023 16:59

Two 'normal' size for pancakes, fried eggs etc. one large. One sauté pan. So four in total.

Greydogs123 · 09/04/2023 17:02

Two. One large one for cooking anything like risotto, spag Bol, stir fry etc and one small one for things like scrambled eggs or pancakes. Used to have a wok, but, it took up too much room and I’m not that fussy about how things cook!

Just me and DH

One pan for everything
One griddle ( used maybe twice a year)
One small which is its on last legs but used for dry frying spices.

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/04/2023 17:04

Two large
Two small
One wok (for making chips).

Two are for meat based foods and Two are for vegetarian meals, these cannot by muddled and each have their own utensils.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/04/2023 17:06

Just me.
One small egg pan.
One for most over things frying pan.

kitsuneghost · 09/04/2023 17:07

I big,1 small, 1 wok. Pots, I have 4 at various sizes

megletthesecond · 09/04/2023 17:09

1 frying pan
1 wok
1 griddle pan, for my quesadillas.

notacooldad · 09/04/2023 17:10

One.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/04/2023 17:10

ONE

StuntNun · 09/04/2023 17:18

Loads but we're a family of six and we do fry a lot of stuff. One wok, one cast iron frying pan, three non-stick pans in different sizes and on egg poacher pan that doubles as a frying pan. So that's six.
