What to do with damp microfibre cloths

WannabeMarieKondo · 06/04/2023 20:12

I use microfibre cloths in the kitchen. They are about 30cm by 39 cm. I don’t want to hang over the tap and don’t want them in the sink getting smelly .

I cannot find a caddy that has a bar to hang it on that is high or big enough. I ordered ine that looked ok, but it’s 25 cm high, the bar, and the cloth is too large to go on it .

Any ideas ?

What do others do ?

here ar some ex apples, not tall enough. They have pics of cloths in them but they must be small beciase I’ve ordered similar and had to send back.

I mean this kindly but the ultra minimalist look is a huge amount of pressure. I still do the MK wardrobe stuff but worrying about your cloths and sponges isn't worth the effort.

There's a happy middle where you don't have lots of clutter but it doesn't take a lot of time (and sometimes money) in trying to achieve the unattainable.

And MK has come to the same conclusion... (she's great, really nice lady).

I've got mine in these on side of cupboard.

As I have a brush, washing up liquid and hand wash plus a cloth I will investigate smaller non microfibre cloths . Then they might fit a standard caddy . Or I will get one of those banana things .

what are these brushes that stand up ?

How does your brush stand up ?

I didn't say it does? It doesn't bother me that it is horizontal. I just have it and my washing up liquid next to the sink.

I think someone said they stood their brush up ? Sorry, it might nit have been you, but someone did and I wondered of it was a different brush that does that ?

My god every suggestion your given you poo poo - it's a cloth! 🤣🤣

Use kitchen roll if it's upsetting you so much

dew141 · 07/04/2023 10:48

My brush stands up. It's from IKEA and has a suction cup on the bottom. Not that I bother but it's an option.

PetitPorpoise · 07/04/2023 10:55

So hand wash, washing up liquid etc , where do they go ?

Washing up liquid is in the cupboard under the sink. I will concede a bottle of handwash next to the sink.

specialk9 · 07/04/2023 11:00

I have a caddy inside the cupboard under the sink which holds sponges and washing up liquid. After I use a sponge I let it dry on the drainer before putting it back.

My cloth I hang on a hook inside the cupboard after use. It's really not that way/damp 🤷🏻‍♀️ to cause an issue

I seriously recommend the proper Swedish dishcloths. Don't pay Extra for the pretty printed ones.
I buy the dark grey ones that look fairly inoffensive draped over the edge of my marble ish worktop top, draping into the stainless steel sink.
Apart from being eco friendly and non smelly, they are soft and flexible when damp or wet, but when you squeeze them out, they regain their flat square shape so look nice and tidy.
I gave a pack of a dozen to a friend who is a very ethical shopper. She was delighted with her unusual house warming present!

MortimerTheCat · 07/04/2023 11:41

This is thread should be boring, but is so entertaining 😂

for what it’s worth, my soap, washing up liquid, sponge and brush all sit neatly in the window sill in front of the sink. Cloth goes back in the cupboard if it’s been used for something dry, like crumbs, or over the taps if it’s wet, then in the machine once I am done with it.

it really shouldn’t be as complicated as you are making it

kwetu · 07/04/2023 11:57

Fold into quarters and set it on a soap dish with disinfectant/antibacterial soap absorbed into it so it doesn't start breeding nasties between uses.

It was me and I said before it was a suction one. And thinking about it you could probably put the cloth on it like a ghost. I'll check in thirteen minutes when the dishwasher finishes as the brush is in there.

Thanks for this, and so good they have them in grey! White is such a silly colour for a dishcloth, mine just end up blue/grey in the wash.

I haven’t . I have decided to investigate and get some of the smaller non microfibre cloths people have suggested, that are also better for the environment.

They may then be fine with a standard caddy, or I’ll get one of those banana things suggested.

So I taken on board those ideas and have also learnt that micro fibre isn’t good for the environment, so will stop using them.

i appreciate peoples suggestions .

I don’t have a window sill .

im not being difficult, but small city flat with no utility room, garden or window in the kitchen area (open planish ).

You are going to get smaller microfibre cloths but stop using microfibre as it isn't good from the environment? You are going to buy another brush that will stand up when you already have a brush?

Why can't you just put them in your laundry basket? And if not, why can't you chuck them straight into the washing machine? Or am I missing something
