What to do with damp microfibre cloths

WannabeMarieKondo · 06/04/2023 20:12

I use microfibre cloths in the kitchen. They are about 30cm by 39 cm. I don’t want to hang over the tap and don’t want them in the sink getting smelly .

I cannot find a caddy that has a bar to hang it on that is high or big enough. I ordered ine that looked ok, but it’s 25 cm high, the bar, and the cloth is too large to go on it .

Any ideas ?

What do others do ?

here ar some ex apples, not tall enough. They have pics of cloths in them but they must be small beciase I’ve ordered similar and had to send back.

I don’t have a washing up bowl as use the dishwasher

Put it in the sodding dishwasher then.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 07/04/2023 03:03

Bloody hell OP

How many sodding times are you wiping down this and wiping down that, in your “small city flat” ??

you can’t be doing that much cooking surely??!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 07/04/2023 03:04

And also, can’t see the difference between it ‘looking messy’ hanging on a tap as opposed to looking messy hanging on a caddy 🙄

Forget "watching paint dry"
"Discussing a cloth dry" is more tedious

Did you already dismiss mounting a towel bar inside the cabinet below your sink? I think that’s perfect.

magicthree · 07/04/2023 04:23

I use a light dishcloth and just drape it over the taps. It dries in no time.

OatMilkLattes · 07/04/2023 05:07

Omg lol, I can’t believe this is a thread

OddsocksinmyDocs · 07/04/2023 05:16

You've had many sensible suggestions but you're making this more difficult than it needs to be 😊

illiterato · 07/04/2023 05:40

This is what happens when we collectively decide that homes shouldn’t look like anyone lives there. Over the tap and be damned! Tea towel over the oven door handle.

SunUp · 07/04/2023 05:48

Just put a self adhesive hook on the inside of the cupboard door under the sink.
No one sees the blot on your perfect kitchen then.

For you, I suggest a metal banana hanger.
or a banana bungee which is a clip that hangs from under the cabinet.

Very good solution . I think the issue is no draing board which I assume is another decision re style over practicality/real life.

WillowtreeHouse · 07/04/2023 05:53

I have read every post on this thread and now I hate myself.

somuchtolearnabout · 07/04/2023 06:12

Surely you've got a cupboard under the sink? I have a sticky hook on the door of the cupboard under the sink and it goes on there in between uses hidden away.

somuchtolearnabout · 07/04/2023 06:14

But as a side note, im bewildered you've responded 41 times to this thread and not a single option has been viable for you. I also enjoy a minimalist house (or as minimalist as possible with 2 toddlers) but this is getting silly

I subscribe to clothaway. It’s on an app, a bit like Deliveroo. When you finish wiping someone cycles round and removes your cloth. And when you are ready to use it again, with just one tap in the app, they reappear to bring it back.

AuroraForever · 07/04/2023 06:36

You must have a cupboard under the sink? If so mount a small bin/box/tiny laundry bag/something to the inside of the door, wring out your damp used cloths and put them in there. They won’t go mouldy and the cupboard won’t go damp if you do it correctly. Or buy smaller cloths that fit on a standard sized caddy? Or do away with the cloths and just use a spray and kitchen roll. Spray stored in the cupboard, used kitchen roll in the bin.

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/04/2023 06:40

I am the lowest of the low on this thread! I use the thin, cheap white cotton dish cloths and drape it over my tap when not in use Grin. I keep it fresh by pouring boiling water over it at least once a day. Probably gets used 3/4/5 days then dried out on the washing line or radiator and into the laundry bin until I do a hot white wash of white towels/bedding/tea towels. Wouldn't dream of washing them in with clothing.

How are people "using several cloths a day"??

Yirk · 07/04/2023 06:43

Just use paper towel and bin it, problem solved.

😂

Never have I seen anything quite as bonkers as this thread.

TulipCat · 07/04/2023 06:54

This thread is hilarious! OP, you need to purchase a thing called a Compromise Cloth. That is one that meets most of your needs without being perfect. They probably sell them on Amazon.

But honestly, if all the myriad of sensible suggestions don't work for whatever ridiculous reason you want to concoct, you would be better off just using kitchen towel and throwing it away after each wipe. I despair....

newnamethanks · 07/04/2023 07:22

Only on mumsnet.

Giggorata · 07/04/2023 07:33

I stopped using them because of the particles and now use the soft cotton cloths, or old face flannels for cleaning.
I wash or rinse and hang them on a line suspended from two hooks across my under sink cupboard.
I have seen tension rods used in the same way.
