What to do with damp microfibre cloths

WannabeMarieKondo · 06/04/2023 20:12

I use microfibre cloths in the kitchen. They are about 30cm by 39 cm. I don’t want to hang over the tap and don’t want them in the sink getting smelly .

I cannot find a caddy that has a bar to hang it on that is high or big enough. I ordered ine that looked ok, but it’s 25 cm high, the bar, and the cloth is too large to go on it .

Any ideas ?

What do others do ?

here ar some ex apples, not tall enough. They have pics of cloths in them but they must be small beciase I’ve ordered similar and had to send back.

Draining board, then in the wash bag that evening.

Over the tap if you have an arched tap? Or get one of those free standing toilet roll holders... 😆

AdoraBell · 06/04/2023 22:28

The sticky hooks could work. I put them in the washing machine.

TwitTwooTooYou · 06/04/2023 22:29

Bin them.
They are terrible and shed micro plastics.

I think I have to give up on this idea of something that allows me to hang the cloth on.

but it’s a small kitchen. No utility room. I didn’t want hooks on the wall as trying to keep it uncluttered . Plus they are glass.

Didnt want hooks in cupboard as don’t want damp .

use it during day and evening to just wipe over worktops, so not really dirty and don’t want to have wet cloths sitting in washing machine as gets yukky as don’t always use the washing machine every day .

just trying to find a way to keep it tidy, not scrunched ul and damp.

No draining board, use dishwasher and need worktop space.
Don’t want it over taps as looks messy .

What clothes do you use ? And presumably those clothes still have issue of where to put them ?

Why not just have it folded in the bottom of the sink when not using it? I get through 3 or 4 cloths a day and just bung them in the washing machine as I use them.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 06/04/2023 22:36

One of those towel rail bars that clips/hangs over the top of a cupboard door and wring it out and hang on there?
Or a towel rail with a sticky fixing and mount on the end of a run of cupboards?
Or a suction cup hook on the glass splashback?
Or one of those circle things with a cross in that you push a corner of the cloth into to hold it?
Or a magnetic peg / clip and stick it to the fridge?
Several of those you could just use to dry it, then once it's dry put the hook/rail/clip away and fold the dry cloth?

LatteOneShotplease · 06/04/2023 22:36

There must be a way to hang them on the inside of your undersink cupboard - command hooks - maybe two a little way apart so the cloth can be hung over both; put them on one side or the inside of the door. You shouldn't get any damp in the cupboard from doing that, as the cloths are almost dry when rinsed and wrung out.

I use a dish cloths like these. Made of a plant based fiber that can go in the compost when its to ratty to use. I fold them over a caddy.

What's wrong with squeezing the water out and folding it so it fits one of those bar/caddy things? Can't see the problem myself. Failing that, hang it over the top rack in the dishwasher until you need to put it on.

PaniniHead · 06/04/2023 22:52

This one looks quite tall-

^Sorry, wrong link 🤣

Leftbutcameback · 06/04/2023 22:53

Mine don’t seem to be that damp? If I need to wipe the top or hob I spray the cleaner on and wipe off, so hardly wet at all. Then I fold over and leave on the side for next time. They go in the machine every couple of days and then get included with the next wash whenever that goes on.

JustFrustrated · 06/04/2023 23:00

If you're just wiping the sides, they're not damp enough to cause a damp issue.

You're making this unnecessarily difficult tbh.

bakewellbride · 06/04/2023 23:00

I stand the washing up bowl on its side in the sink and sort of drape it over that so it hangs off the side

NotMeNoNo · 06/04/2023 23:03

Small rail hooked over the nearest cupboard like this? I think it’s neater than a bulky sink caddy.

ShirleyPhallus · 06/04/2023 23:07

I’ve read the word caddy so much on this thread that it’s lost all meaning

Avarua2 · 06/04/2023 23:08

I don't want to be Debbie Downer but hundreds of millions of tiny plastic particles go into the water every time you wash a microfibre cloth.

Microfibres from cloths and synthetic clothes are responsible for a lion’s share of the microplastic pollution in our streams, rivers, oceans, and lakes.

I am faintly amused by this thread. Talk about first world problems.

Sorry, don't mind me. I'll get my coat which is on a hook by the door.

FragranceFree · 06/04/2023 23:11

I soak mine in disinfectant all day.

Jesus I can't believe I've actually read this whole thread 😂. I can't honestly believe anyone would waste so much time thinking about this non-issue. Use the cloth a few times and then chuck it in the washer and get on with your life.

WhiteFire · 06/04/2023 23:38

Mine came from Betterware many many years ago and is white coated wire in a sort of tent shape, but I can't see anything on Google that is similar.

Super expensive for what it is (as my mother would say) but this?

fruitpastille · 06/04/2023 23:39

Just cut them in half so they fit on your caddy?

I would just leave it by the sink/ over the tap personally.
