Farting in bed.

Chatting with a close friend a few days ago over a coffee. We've known each other for years so nothings ever off topic.

She was taken aback when i disclosed that for years I've farted in bed and my DH ( who also farts in bed too ) isn't bothered in the slightest.

Would this be a deal breaker for you? Or are you also Teamfartinbed?

Disgusting, it's not ladylike to openly fart and stink up the place.

Would rather do it in my own home than be in pain all day and worrying about who may hear 🤷🏻‍♀️

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/04/2023 13:38

There’s nothing more satisfying than a good fart. If you can’t comfortably fart in your home then where can you?

Ooh, that's really annoying me now - I recognise that quote, but I just can't remember if it was by Jane Austen or Oscar Wilde Grin

Enfys1982 · 03/04/2023 13:42

‘Not ladylike’? Are we still living in Victorian times or something? Do those of you who never let off in front of your husbands all have corks up your bum or something? I’d burst if I didn’t fart when I needed to.

GalileoHumpkins · 03/04/2023 13:46

We also DTD every single day for context

How is this context in a thread about farting?

I think for me it depends, if one sneaks out it's fine but people who force them out for literal shits and giggles wouldn't have their arse anywhere near me.

Hoolihan · 03/04/2023 13:46

Having read this thread I've realised I just don't need to fart that often. People complaining that they'll explode if they don't fart?? Maybe I'm not eating enough fibre or something. My kids don't seem to fart much either, don't think I've really ever heard or smelt my 15yo son fart.

🤣🤣🤣 my DH could do with a coke up his bum

Bepis · 03/04/2023 13:47

*cork not coke 😂

I just don't need to fart that often and let them pop inside me if I'm in company 🤷🏻‍♀️

YogaLite · 03/04/2023 13:53

Would never do it consciously or intentionally, only accidentally (happened just once and he laughed it off).

Heard him just once when he was asleep.

Mine depends on diet.. if I'm eating healthily I barely do it, when I'm eating crap I'm like a machine gunner 🤣 but won't ever fart infront of anyone unless it's accidental, it's really gross. I have never exploded and they pop inside if I can't push it out..

We think farts are hilarious but we don’t fart freely in front of each other and certainly not in bed, that’s just disgusting.

If you both/all find farts hilarious, why do you then deliberately avoid sharing the hilarity? Surely you wouldn't hear a good joke and think "DH would find that one very funny indeed - I will be sure not to tell it to him!" ?!

Because they stink! I don't wanna smell someone elses bowels, how is this so difficult to figure out 😂😂

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 03/04/2023 13:56

We fart in bed

That's not a permanent solution, though - all you're doing is incurring a fart-debt that will have to be repaid eventually, possibly with interest!

Not all farts smell. In fact most/many probably don't. It depends on what the farter has been eating amongst other factors. Certain foods contain more sulphur than others, and make farts more smelly. 99% of the gasses we produce are odourless (or so I just read). Most of the time, letting rip will produce nothing more offensive than a noise! The 'danger' I suppose, is that it's hard to predict in advance which type of fart will emerge. Just have to close your eyes and hope for the best.

Somethingsnappy · 03/04/2023 14:38

Sulfur, not sulphur. Apologies

Coldspringtime · 03/04/2023 14:42

Hillrunning · 02/04/2023 21:09

I'd never openly and obviously fart or burp in front of anyone. Obviously sometimes it jsut happens but I just don't see the need to make a show of either. Husband of 11 years has also never openly done either in my presence. It just isn't needed

What do you do then if you need to fart or burp. Ger out of bed and go to another room?

Sweet89 · 03/04/2023 14:45

Scalottia · 03/04/2023 11:15

Fucking rank, honestly.

Yes, it is, but it's hilarious, and we get a good laugh out of it. You only live once and all that 😉

There must be something wrong with me then because mine smell like something has died. Love letting one out and leaving the room, to then hear the heaving and a few moments later 🤭

mydogisthebest · 03/04/2023 15:05

I have IBS so fart fairly often. Just not possible to keep going out of the room as I would be in and out all evening and night.

DH doesn't really take any notice unless I have a very bad spell and literally fart constantly. Luckily they rarely smell.

I do think it is important to be comfortable enough with your partner that you can fart, burp or whatever in front of them. I hardly ever burp but sometimes one just happens with no warning at all.

Bepis · 03/04/2023 15:14

@Sweet89 That had me howling 😂😂🤣🤣. Mine can smell like something has crawled up there and been dead for 10 years haha

Scalottia · 03/04/2023 15:20

You are correct about only living once, @Sweet89, but I prefer my short, once-only life not to involve people 'letting one out, leaving the room and hearing the heaving later.' I mean, to each their own and all but that is just disgusting.

Farts happen, burps happen - we're all human, but the attitude of some PP is just juvenile. 'Tee hee we have farting competitions in bed. Aren't we hilarious and cool!' Then again a lot of mumsnetters seem to pride themselves on who can be the most disgusting.

We love to fart in my house. They just fall out of my DS, and my partner likes to lift his leg up for added effect, and I quite enjoy doing them in bed and wafting the smell over to him, very funny 😁

That is just revolting.

Of course it's ladylike. Ladies fart in the same way men do.

Is it being suggested that only men are allowed to fart? That could be construed as sexist!! 😱🙄 Men and women should have equal farting rights. There should be a law about it.
