How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

Indifferent, apart from glad of an extra bank holiday.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 02/04/2023 10:12

I'm looking forward to watching it on the television. I love a bit of pageantry and procession from the comfort of my sofa

FLDS · 02/04/2023 10:13

I'm looking forward to it.

Complete indifference.

sashagabadon · 02/04/2023 10:13

Looking forward to it. Will definitely go up and try and see something but if anything like the jubilee ( which it will be) then it’ll be mobbed.

ClaraThePigeon · 02/04/2023 10:14

Embarrassed and disgusted here at the continuation of the Monarchy.

Nolosomi · 02/04/2023 10:15

Disgusted frankly. It’s costing between £50-100 million to stage. I can think of many better ways that money could be spent in these hard times. I wish I could afford to leave the country so I could avoid the whole thing.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/04/2023 10:15

I’m only interested because my brother is in the parade.

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 02/04/2023 10:15

I wish the event was much more low-key and less if a "thing" but that's it. There was a suggestion to close a road near me on a local forum to hold a street party but that went down like a sack of s###. I don't think Charles is the problem, nor his errant family, just that people have other priorities now.

SiobhanSharpe · 02/04/2023 10:16

Not keen, if I'm honest. I won't be doing anything special.
I am also unimpressed by the way the purported 'slimmed down' ceremony now seems to be anything but. Perhaps the originators of the said slimmed down idea forgot to tell Charles.
(However am not surprised -- this is a man whose own mother considered he had a very extravagant lifestyle.)

KnickerlessParsons · 02/04/2023 10:16

Really looking forward to it.
Will settle down in front of the TV with nibbles and maybe a sherry or two and watch all of it.

Magnoliainbloom · 02/04/2023 10:16

Unnecessary decadence and irrelevant.

Lonelycrab · 02/04/2023 10:18

Pretty meh tbh. Ds (11) excited though.

If they spent a bit less money on it I’d be slightly more in support. 100mil at a time like this is a bit much.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 02/04/2023 10:18

I'm pleased to be getting an extra bank holiday but I won't be using it to watch the coronation.

Given the current cost of living crisis, I really don't think it's appropriate to spend vast swathes of public money on yet another royal event...it seems to me to be in very poor taste when so many people are relying on foodbanks etc for their basic needs. But I'm not a royalist so not really the demographic that they're aiming for.

Ifailed · 02/04/2023 10:19

If he wants to have a party after someone has put a hat on his head, why can't he arrange and pay for it at one of many large houses? I'm sure netflix would film it for him and might even pay him a fee.

SlipSlidinAway · 02/04/2023 10:19

Total indifference.

EyesOnThePies · 02/04/2023 10:19

Interesting historical occasion, and I like the way we do pageantry, good spectacle.

Glad of the Bank Hol

But not doing any flag waving street partying celebrations, not a fan of inherited power / status.

pizzaHeart · 02/04/2023 10:20

No feelings, mostly busy with my life and coronation in it is neither here nor there. I’m not a royalist so I just tolerate them.

ChaToilLeam · 02/04/2023 10:20

Won’t be watching. It’s insensitive and idiotic for so much money to be spent on this anachronistic ceremony when people are struggling to put food on the table.

I suspect that the "slimmed down" referred to the hangers on, rather than the monarch himself. Very easy to cut stuff for other people!

Callmenat · 02/04/2023 10:21

Get rid of them all. Scroungers.

GoatHeartedPieFacedOwl · 02/04/2023 10:22

Meh.

Mimosa08 · 02/04/2023 10:22

£8 million of taxpayers money being spent on providing paintings of the King to various institutions

Ffs

dreamingbohemian · 02/04/2023 10:23

To actively celebrate and perpetuate a monarchy in the year 2023 just seems ludicrous.

Spending 100 mil to do so when children are going hungry is not just a bad look, it's actually cruel

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/04/2023 10:24

Really can't be arsed with it all tbh. People are dealing with real problems.
