How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

Just not really interested tbh. The day off is nice but absolutely zero plans to do anything or even watch it.

Agree.

There is no excitement for it where I am.

I must admit I have enjoyed a daydream or two about him cruising through London in his golden carriage and it being like a ghost town....total tumbleweed moment. The only sounds being the clack of the horses hooves and the reporters voice "and here comes King Charles now...." clip clop, clip clop.

if only….!

I’d go and boo and throw eggs but I’d be arrested…. Bummer.

Crying, shaking, throwing up.

I’m hoping there will be another street party because my 4 year old still talks about the day cars couldn’t go down the street as one of the best days.

I find KC an intriguing character, very thoughtful, entirely human. I was invited to an event to mark the occasion that celebrates regular volunteers, but unsure if it's happening much less if I could attend. In theory I'm considering doing hugely more for KC's event than any previous Royal event (wedding, babies, funerals, etc). I usually ignore them as benign events for others.

SimplyAverage · 02/04/2023 11:30

There will be lots of laughter about tampons as always when we see that pair on TV.

He is well compensated and as long as he is pleasant to people at a time of national need, is nice to foreign diplomats, gives the green politial hypocrisy a rest, he will do.

Not remotely interested. Will suggest DC look in as it is an event of historic interest, but shall make sure I don't add remarks regarding the pointlessness of the concept of monarchy.
At a time when so many are struggling to keep their heads above water, the expenses of this are unpalatable.

oops, sorry, dupes, network messed up here...

Embarrassed and disgusted here at the continuation of the Monarchy.

this - I am ashamed that my country is doing this

Atethehalloweenchocs · 02/04/2023 11:31

Its well documented Charles is ready to take from the public purse as much as he can - so not surprising that they are spending so much on this. Its totally disgusting to have such a huge ceremony in the current climate. And we will be having another one in a few years. Shows what the RF and their toadies really think of the public - we are just here to fund them.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/04/2023 11:32

Angry. Could think of much more useful ways of spending that much money.

Tiredalwaystired · 02/04/2023 11:33

I feel about the same as I do about any royal wedding / funeral / state occasion.

indifferent.

SnottyLottie · 02/04/2023 11:34

I wish it were like the olden days and we were treated to fountains flowing with (free) wine to celebrate 🤣🍷

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/04/2023 11:35

Relatively the monarchy doesn't cost much. I think most people have little idea of the massive amounts of money spent on public services by comparison, etc (even under funded ones) and there's a huge amount of tourist revenue that is brought in due to interest in the monarchy. Most of that doesn't actually go to the monarchy itself.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what goes on. In some ways controversy around it makes it more interesting.

Soes · 02/04/2023 11:35

A bit annoyed about the waste of public money - I think KC is a saddo narcissist.

Indifferent to the event itself. I will be leaving London on a weekend away with family and don’t intend to watch it.

Botw1 · 02/04/2023 11:37

Absolutely shocking waste of money and time

Much like the royals themselves

Ca1yps0 · 02/04/2023 11:38

I feel I ought to watch as it is a once in a lifetime, historical event that my grandchildren will ask me about and Part of Our Shared History, but equally the thought of a day in front of the television listening to all the sycophantic guff doesn’t seem that appealing.

Actually, now I think about it, I feel about the Coronation as I did about double geography on Wednesday afternoons. I suppose it’s all necessary, but goodness, I’m bored.

Whoever takes on the role of King/president will be a narcissist.

This is a complete assumption. People like visiting palaces, regardless of whether there happen to be sitting royals in the country concerned or not. The Taj Mahal and Versailles don't exactly suffer from lack of interest.

Roussette · 02/04/2023 11:39

Brace yourself for Nicholas Witchell

rattymol · 02/04/2023 11:41

@WeAreTheHeroes we are funding one family. Very different from funding say school education for most children.

Joystir59 · 02/04/2023 11:42

Seeing as I'm paying for it I'm going to make the most of it. Let's hope it's the last lavish royal event. Monarchy needs to fade

thismeansnothing · 02/04/2023 11:44

Complete indifference. Just a normal Saturday for me, I'll be in work
