How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

Not keen, if I'm honest. I won't be doing anything special.
I am also unimpressed by the way the purported 'slimmed down' ceremony now seems to be anything but. Perhaps the originators of the said slimmed down idea forgot to tell Charles.
(However am not surprised -- this is a man whose own mother considered he had a very extravagant lifestyle.)

I have a theory that the slimmed down coronation stories were seeded by someone, his family. Trying to put pressure on him to slim it down. It did not work.

Babyroobs · 02/04/2023 10:47

It's a good excuse for some bunting and an afternoon tea in the garden.

Dracuuule · 02/04/2023 10:47

I think it's insensitive and quite disgusting for all that money to be spent like this in this current climate.
Give them "bread and circuses"

The Royal Family aren’t important to my life, they’re something in the background that I wish wasn’t there but are easy enough to ignore. I don’t know anyone that is interested.

We’re going away with friends to miss it all.

Clymene · 02/04/2023 10:47

I don't care. We had enough spent on his mum's death.

AnonymousArabella · 02/04/2023 10:47

Really couldn’t care less.

And don’t work Mondays so it’s just another bank holiday I’ll miss out on.

DarkDarkNight · 02/04/2023 10:48

Glad of the day off work. Not a Royalist but I liked the Queen. I wouldn’t be sad to do away with the whole institution now. We would still have an amazing history for tourism and we could open up the royal palaces more.

Namechange828492 · 02/04/2023 10:50

I will watch on tv and probably go to a street party

milveycrohn · 02/04/2023 10:50

I will record the coronation to watch later. (Youtube generally may be slightly edited). I really hope all goes well, etc etc. No hiccups, etc
It is a long time since the last coronation (before I was born), but I'm not generally excited about it.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 02/04/2023 10:52

Couldn't care less.

Also I'm an exams officer and so basically I've had a day of preparation time taken away from me a week before we start with a levels and gcses.

So I'm cross too.

Useless giving me a bank holiday in May or June as I can't do anything with it.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 02/04/2023 10:52

He’s too old . He’s missed his turn, tough for him but if we have to have a monarchy ( my internal jury is out ) let’s at least have one of working age.

He has drastically cut down on evening engagements to preserve his health 🥹. Working the room at evening receptions is a major part of the role, isn’t it? As for Camilla, she just looks miserable , tottering around in his wake.

I am 72, and DH is 76, so we are allowed to say they are just too old.

Mostly indifferent but annoyed with the bank holiday. You can't do anything.

Annoyed with the bank holiday!!!

Thats the best benefit out of the whole thing. The minute it was announced I booked our weekend away, its not too late to do that although it will be pricey now.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 02/04/2023 10:53

He's a twat, won't watch, don't think I know anyone who's particularly bothered.

I will get the bank holiday added to my leave pro rata so am fortunate in that way, in that I'm one of the people who'll derive some actual benefit. I realise many people don't with bank holidays, it's not a very equitable system. Which fits, I suppose.

mrsbyers · 02/04/2023 10:54

I’ll be in the air most of it on my way to vegas

Yesthatismychildsigh · 02/04/2023 10:55

Total waste of money, and disgusted that it’s happening.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 02/04/2023 10:55

I wonder if the RF overegged the pudding with the circus surrounding the queen's death and the prolonged mourning period, so people's bandwidth for interest in this is lower.

ClaraThePigeon · 02/04/2023 10:14

Embarrassed and disgusted here at the continuation of the Monarchy.

Same.

Not everyone has the money to go away, nor are bank holidays a plus for everyone! Do you not understand that? 🤦🏻‍♀️

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 02/04/2023 10:58

With last year having the Platinum Jubilee and then the Queen's death, possibly people are a bit pageantryed-out by now.

Frith2013 · 02/04/2023 11:00

£8 million to be spent on paintings of one bloke.

The whole thing is embarrassing.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 02/04/2023 11:01

Bank holidays aren't a fair system.

Some lucky ones, like me, get them added to our annual leave allowance as part of our contracts and we have flexibility about when to take them.

Some people don't get them, and still have to work the day but without the usual provision of childcare and public transport. It's less and less common to get extra time and many of them don't work in jobs where they might at least get extra tips to make up some of the difference.

Still others have to take them off but are obliged to use their annual leave towards them, because they don't get them as extra leave but also don't have the option of working. So it essentially gives them one less day to use for things they might actually need it for.

Ilovemydoggie · 02/04/2023 11:01

I’m looking forward to it. We have friends flying in from abroad, and are going to brave London to watch it.

Totally agree with this.

It seems like jubilee after jubilee, silly concert yet again, Sweet Caroline being crooned and daft people joining in, Brian May up on a roof, it's like bloody groundhog day!

SockGoddess · 02/04/2023 11:02

I can't get excited about it being Charles, it just doesn't feel right. I liked having a queen. I liked her outfits <shallow> I liked her humility, I know that's ridiculous since having a monarchy at all is the opposite of that, but at least she was gracious. I don't hate Charles and he has his good points but he just seems a bit huffy and self-righteous so seeing him get crowned just feels annoying. I mean I will take an interest when it's on the news and watch a few bits. But meh. Hope someone else involved will bring the style.
