How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

Boring. But I will probably still watch it. Annoying we were told Camilla wouldn't be Queen but now she is. Well there's a surprise.

Indifferent, apart from glad of an extra bank holiday.

Pretty much what I was going to say!

I have a busy few months and we get up at 4am for ds to swim train.

A day off work, swimming and a lie in and an extra day where there's no demands on my time is very welcome.

The coronation part of it? I've got no real excitement tbh Grin

Totally agree with this.

It seems like jubilee after jubilee, silly concert yet again, Sweet Caroline being crooned and daft people joining in, Brian May up on a roof, it's like bloody groundhog day!

Yeah, it just seems like some of the middle ground people must be approaching their limit around now. Obviously the massive royalists and the people who like me, find the whole thing laughable, aren't likely to change stances. But for people who don't mind a bit of it but will get bored at some point, some of them are going to be reaching that point.

Not everyone has the money to go away, nor are bank holidays a plus for everyone! Do you not understand that? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Not every factor for every single person has to be taken account of in every single answer in a discussion forum.

Bank holidays are an advantage for the majority of the population and thats the best it can be, we dont get enough of them although I would rather they are spread out over the year a bit better, they're all clumped together.

Changeau · 02/04/2023 11:04

Happy, because it means Badminton Cross country day is now on a Sunday so we can go. It's normally on a Saturday when I work.

I can't get excited about it being Charles, it just doesn't feel right. I liked having a queen. I liked her outfits <shallow> I liked her humility, I know that's ridiculous since having a monarchy at all is the opposite of that, but at least she was gracious. I don't hate Charles and he has his good points but he just seems a bit huffy and self-righteous so seeing him get crowned just feels annoying. I mean I will take an interest when it's on the news and watch a few bits. But meh. Hope someone else involved will bring the style.

I get that. I don't support the royals at all, but as a model it worked better with an older woman.

I reached my limit about 4 jubilees ago!

I’m glad that there’s something to celebrate in these difficult times, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase Britain on the World stage. It sounds like the King charmed the Germans, which is a good start.

Hopefully the coronation will lead to increased tourism and investment in this country.

I can see how, as a large one off event that some people will be very interested to see, it can be expected to increase in tourism for that period. There'll probably be more visitors to the UK in the first week of May 2023 than in May 2022, even accounting for Eurovision. But greater investment?

JamSandle · 02/04/2023 11:08

I'm really excited about it and plan to go.

twolilacs · 02/04/2023 11:13

It isn't something I can summon up much interest in, but I will probably watch some of it on the telly anyway.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/04/2023 11:13

Disappointed that they are cutting it short. The last one was 3 hours long!

OKFinally · 02/04/2023 11:14

I was indifferent, now I am pissed off,😡 my nephew was due to travel with his club to the London Irish Festival of rugby , but the price of accommodation has sky rocketed due to incoming King, so his club and other local clubs have decided not to travel as they sensibly don’t want a divide between those who can afford it and those who can’t. His two older cousins have played in this festival and it would have been nice for all three of them to have been able to say they had done it.

We have booked a table in our favourite pub, it doesn’t have any televisions so we will be nicely removed from it all.

We are retired so the bank holiday is neither here nor there.

I don’t mind a bit of pageantry but neither DH or I can bear the long and now the horse is walking slowly in the right direction ……nonsense that they go on with.

The only pleasure I will get from this will be seeing Andrew sidelined if indeed they have the nerve to do it. Maybe Andrew could go to Pizza Express I don’t think they have any TV’s and believe it is air conditioned so no chance of him sweating.😂

Oh God, just remembered MeGain and her husband.

Let’s call the whole thing off.

Maybe they could put the crown on his head on a Zoom call, it was good enough for everyone else during the pandemic.

Redebs · 02/04/2023 11:16

I think it's a massive insult to all those struggling to survive in this country.

He’s too old . He’s missed his turn, tough for him but if we have to have a monarchy ( my internal jury is out ) let’s at least have one of working age.

He has drastically cut down on evening engagements to preserve his health 🥹. Working the room at evening receptions is a major part of the role, isn’t it? As for Camilla, she just looks miserable , tottering around in his wake.

I am 72, and DH is 76, so we are allowed to say they are just too old.

But the ones of working age seem unwilling or unable to do much work (if you could even call it that).

Crimeismymiddlename · 02/04/2023 11:18

Looking forward to the extra day off, and whatever nonsense H&M create. That’s it, people really don’t care and I honestly am embarrassed for the entire royal family for making such a big deal of it and making the tax payer foot the eye watering bill. That money could do something useful.

Roussette · 02/04/2023 11:18

I posted an idea a while back.

It should be pay-per-view. Then out and out Monarchists can watch it but pay for the privilege. All proceeds to a suitable charity. And those of us not interested can avoid it, and make a donation if we want to.

ehb102 · 02/04/2023 11:19

Using it as an excuse to do something nice in the community. People are starting to come together and we will have a fun afternoon.

usernother · 02/04/2023 11:19

Looking forward to it. Street parties being held around here.

Veryfishy · 02/04/2023 11:21

Looking forward to it , I’ll be watching on telly with some nice snacks
We've already started the commemorative box of shortbread from M & S

BlobLobIaw · 02/04/2023 11:22

Appalled. Give the money to the poor. And get rid of the monarchy.

Roussette · 02/04/2023 11:23

Does it taste better than normal shortbread?!

SnottyLottie · 02/04/2023 11:26

Any excuse to get the bunting out and have a tea party!

I am interested in it but I’m a history buff so appreciate it from a historical perspective.

The kids are excited about it and want to watch the pageantry and dress up.

I’m also like looking forward to seeing (and judging) the outfits 🤣

Veryfishy · 02/04/2023 11:26

@Roussette its lovely , crunchy big square shortbread squares with an orb , crown or castle design stamped on the top
It makes me happy
( looks at biscuit tin collection 🙀)

AuntieMarys · 02/04/2023 11:27

Ignoring it. Going away for the weekend to an isolated cottage.
