How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

I don't think Charles inspires the respect and affection his mother did.

I think Charles is probably a good person but I have no interest in the royal family so am going away to escape it all.

Don’t care

I’d have been fascinated to eavesdrop on whatever courtier-politician backroom wrangling ultimately decided not to go with the kind of scaled back coronation that would seem appropriate to a country on its knees. I assume the decision to rock on with the full extravaganza came down to a perceived need for bread and circuses for the masses, or at least circuses to distract from the lack of bread.

It will probably work, too. The people who are suffering most will be the ones camping out on the Mall overnight, waving little flags and saying ‘Gawd bless ‘is Maj!’

CalistoNoSolo · 02/04/2023 10:27

Not my king. I wonder how many of us would voluntarily contribute to his coronation. I certainly wouldn't, the sooner the monarchy is abolished the better. What actual good is it anyway.

bellac11 · 02/04/2023 10:27

Looking forward to watching it. We booked a weekend away so will spend the other days out and about but the day of the coronation I will be glued to the box watching all the pagentry. I like a spectacle and something historical interests me. I was hoping to be surrounded by crisps and pizza and wine but I cant have those things now so its taken the enjoyment off a bit!!!

Whether this goes ahead or not, whether we have a monarchy or not, children wills suffer, health and education will be underfunded, wealth will be unevenly distributed. And thats because of a system that the 'great' british public have actively voted for and preferred over decades and decades.

The coronation is neither here nor there in that respect.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/04/2023 10:28

I'm looking forward to it, just as a fun public event. I enjoyed the jubilee too - what's not to like? We went into town and watched the flyover. It's a harmless break from the norm and an extra day off work.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 02/04/2023 10:28

No interest, verging on annoyed. Absolutely tone deaf to spend that kind of money on it at the moment too. I have no time for Charles, or any of them, and would like the monarchy abolished. The bank holiday is handily near my birthday, so I have an extra day off which is nice.

If you think it’s harmless, you might want to brush up on your economics.

Disgusted frankly. It’s costing between £50-100 million to stage. I can think of many better ways that money could be spent in these hard times. I wish I could afford to leave the country so I could avoid the whole thing.

Agree.

There is no excitement for it where I am.

I must admit I have enjoyed a daydream or two about him cruising through London in his golden carriage and it being like a ghost town....total tumbleweed moment. The only sounds being the clack of the horses hooves and the reporters voice "and here comes King Charles now...." clip clop, clip clop.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/04/2023 10:29

I'm going to watch a play in London while it's on, I expect the atmosphere all over London to be good

BlueBunting · 02/04/2023 10:30

Why would I be excited?

But I will use the day to prepare for a big Eurovision party. At least that’s voted for.

i used to be pro monarchy but I’m done with it it. Totally over their privileges

Mangolist · 02/04/2023 10:30

Rather pleased that we inadvertently booked a week abroad that week!

User639762456 · 02/04/2023 10:32

Not really bothered one way or the other, I shall probably watch some of it on the TV but it's not something I am particularly looking forward to, I'm retired so the extra bank holiday doesn't affect me

Doff your cap to your superiors serf. And bend the knee.

That's an interesting concept. I wonder how much he would have raised if he did a Kickstarter to fund it. Nowhere near £100mil I bet!

I'm glad of the extra bank holiday but will be spending it doing anything but watch that load of pomp.

Roussette · 02/04/2023 10:39

Completely bored with it already. Slimmed down? No.

I don't want to hear about the silly oil that will be used, the canopies over him and Camilla, who will wear what tiara, the two new thrones and new gold carriage. I quickly switch channels when anything comes up about it, sometimes I can't find the buttons quick enough!

Nicholas Witchell will need Tena for Men because of his sycophantic excitement. £100million is beyond a joke. And now £8 million on portraits of Charles for schools, fire stations, police stations and all public offices who want one.

I honestly honestly though it was an April Fools joke when I read the article about the portraits this morning. Then saw it was dated 2nd April so sadly not.

Littlecamellia · 02/04/2023 10:41

Mostly indifferent but annoyed with the bank holiday. You can't do anything.

PinkBuffalo · 02/04/2023 10:42

I am indifferent to it
hoping there will be a bootcamp or something to I can go to instead

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 02/04/2023 10:43

Excited for an extra day off work. Planning a big house party with our friends (hopefully a BBQ) to celebrate someone getting engaged and someone's anniversary.
Don't care a jot about the coronation.

rattymol · 02/04/2023 10:43

A total waste of money. It shows how Charles slimmed back monarchy is a lie. He is splashing the taxpayers cash on his coronation.

Elphame · 02/04/2023 10:43

Massive waste of money that could be spent elsewhere.

No one here will be watching it.

schnauzerbeard · 02/04/2023 10:44

I have an agricultural show that date so it will just be another day for us.

Ooh, that would be a new spin. EuroMonarchy. ONE entering country gets to have a funded (off the broadcast rights) monarchy for a year, voted for by all entering countries (tactical bloc voting encouraged). Royals being entered have to write and perform their own diresome pop songs about why they deserve to win, wearing coronation regalia, backed by a band of masked courtiers and a choir consisting of the next twenty in line to the throne, whether that’s ancient Duchesses or toddlers.
