For me it’s the utterly obscure baby names. We’ve all seen them and I’m quite sure nobody uses them in real life. Yet on MN, it’s apparently standard.

Honourable mention to the 50% of posters whose husbands are earning upwards of £100K too.

Endless posts by the OP. Hugely complicated family drama that you have to get your head around. The they say at the bottom “sorry if I’ve been too longwinded/thanks for staying with me so far”

Lol.. swipe left..

But in a scenario like that, people are not under any obligation to structure their posts in a way that suits others. They're looking to get constructive input on something that's bothering them, and we can't all be whizzes at expressing ourselves in writing. People are free to leave any thread that they're finding too complex or long-winded or that they feel is taking up too much of their time.

If people want constructive advice (and many people don't; they want to whine / get validation) they should write clearly. This is a message board where communication is through the written word; making it difficult for others to understand your point will mean that some people won't bother to read your post.

And before anyone chimes in with "but I'm dyslexic! I couldn't possibly be expected to write clearly" - use a spell-checker. I'm dyslexic and sometimes omit words / make typos but I do my best to ensure that my post is clear.

Agree people are more likely to get replies if they write clearly, obviously. I think it was more the 'lol, swipe left' comment from the pp that got my goat as it seemed to imply that that particular pp was hoping for some sort of entertainment value from other people's posts.

Sometimes bit not always

If someone is saying gay people will go to hell why should I keep my gob shut?

Or that men should be the Head of the household

Or that having an abortion is a sin.

Or that women who don't cover their hair are sluts?

Agree, I don’t like people thinking I agree with their beliefs if it’s something I find repugnant, there’s a time & a place for discussion etc. but not ridicule for the sake of it.

alanabennett · 04/04/2023 04:45

People who choose to live "rurally" and don't drive. Is it any wonder that things are a bit shit for them?

nuyorkparis · 04/04/2023 10:19

Taking the moral high ground on every damn thing like they live these spotless ethical lives.

Robinni · 04/04/2023 10:21

Mandatory RTFT!! - if there are 42 pgs then I don’t have time unless it’s actually very interesting.

Everything ending up in the Daily Mail!

I'd mind that less if they were actually talking about moral issues, but they usually aren't. It's usually class markers which they pretend are moral issues because then they can feel superior rather than just plain snobby. For no reason.

Cinderellaspumpkin · 04/04/2023 11:47

Ahhhh yessss....

On Mumsnet teacher's are saints in human form. Daring to even question even the most inexcusable behaviour from a teacher will have you labelled "that parent." In real life if a teacher tells your 7 year old to "f* off," people will complain.

The pity and disdain for SAHM"s ruining their career/ pension pots. Despite the fact most women don't have such high flying carers that taking 3/4 years out will mean they will instantly take a 100k paydrop on returning to work.

If you don't believe in abortion for any reason up to a 40 week time limit you are a "forced birthed," ( of course forgetting that post 24 week abortions involve women, erm, giving birth to a stillborn baby in extremely traumatic circumstances).

Cinderellaspumpkin · 04/04/2023 11:49

Having a third child means you hate the environment.

Anything "fun," e.g a hen night, baby shower, engagement party is to be banned.

No one has even a curiosity about finding out the sex of their baby before it's born, let alone a preference...

Cinderellaspumpkin · 04/04/2023 11:53

Charging 16-19 year Old's on apprentice wages market rate rent , to "teach them" the value of money . No charging your 17 year old trainee hairdresser daughter £500 a month rent when she comes home with £800pcm just show's how money grabbing and spiteful her parents are....

Or skint ,have you ever considered not everyone is living in exactly the same circumstances as you?
Personally I think it's worse when peop!e day they charge their kids rent and then save it all.upfor their little darlings to.give it them as a deposit ,because they clearly can't trust their little darlings to.Save themselves but there you go.

If you don't have time to check the thread - at least on the level of OP's updates - there is probably no value in responding on page 42.

Omg the gender disappointment threads are actually full of batshit posters but only if the poster says she wanted a girl!

the boy mums go mental as if the OP has personally attacked them Or their precious son’s 🙄

people especially hormonal women are allowed to have such feelings without a bunch of venomous women attacking them.

It’s disgusting to see.

saying ‘that doesn’t work for me’ 🙄 If the other person is that pushy they’re only going to ask why or tell you how to make it work. It isn’t the silver bullet people think it is!

Cinderellaspumpkin · 04/04/2023 15:10

A nice sunshine, beach holiday with a lovely pool in a hotel opposite the sea in Majorca would be hell on earth to most mumsnetters and their teens. They and their 13/14 year olds would far rather be spending their holiday trailing around various museums which their teens are fascinated by

I think you're forgetting to mention that these teens are actually 'strapping teens' who are straight A students and enjoy 'huge salads'.

Similar to that “no is an entire sentence” thing.

Eh, it’s not. People don’t interact with one word answers.

The poster has been taking their DF/DM/DC or whatever close relative or friend to the GPs for 6 months, as said patient has been suffering pain in their shoulder/back/bowels/somewhere; the GP has dismissed it as a muscle strain or heart burn. A & E found the patient has stage 4 cancer in the lungs/spine/ bowels wherever. The patient died within days/weeks/a couple of months, because it was too late.

MN dismisses this as "GP bashing" rather than a legitimate cause for complaint, after OP has watched their relative suffering horribly for months and dying prematurely!

Cinderellaspumpkin · 04/04/2023 19:00

Posters distressed at the "tragic" ( they always use the word tragic), low breastfeeding rates I'm the u.k. In real life I don't know anyone who is close to tears about breastfeeding stats.

Never known a SOUL in real life - EVER - who has taken (or ever WOULD take) £500 of their young adult child's £800 monthly wage. Such nonsense. Hmm

Maybe £200, and that would be reasonable and acceptable, as £800 a month for a 17 year old's trainee hairdresser is a fucking good wage! She'd still have £600 left. Just for spends!

I'm not close to tears about it, but it IS tragic that so many new mums can't be arsed to even TRY to breastfeed their baby. Yes yes yes I KNOW some CAN'T - but some don't even TRY.
