*trigger warning* Nuclear War - Is it more likely than you thought?

Weeks ago I would've said, no, very unlikely to ever happen at all. Nobody wins, etc etc

Recent events, none I can even pinpoint, give me a different feel and I suddenly think it's more likely to happen soon than I did weeks ago

What does everyone else think?

I think the only time humans will use a full nuclear war would be for a scorched earth policy, in the event of a worse case scenario.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/03/2023 00:42

Actively hoping for a nuclear war just to see the back of these interminable 'OMG we're all doing to die/Putin will turn the UK into a sheet of glass!' threads.

Greenshake · 29/03/2023 01:21

That is absolutely repellent 😂😂

blueshoes · 29/03/2023 01:36

@Furries OMG that is brilliant! Laughing so hard I am going to bust my tacky seams.

Furries · 29/03/2023 01:44

I thought that bodycon nuggets might have given me a fairly decent googlewhack score, but no!

IClaudine · 29/03/2023 07:26

That dress is hilarious. We should use it as a code for future suspect nuclear war threads.

It all means nothing, we have our own nukes, we're a major NATO member. A strike on the UK immediately becomes MAD

What if Russia Nuke us and then the rest of the NATO members with nukes actually think 'you know what, we'll leave it there. We won't retaliate. Rather have a tiny chance of surviving thanks'

That's not how NATO works.

frozendaisy · 29/03/2023 07:57

Too much money travels through London to nuke it. Try not to worry.

Aphrathestorm · 29/03/2023 08:00

I never think about it.

The risk is much lower now than in the 80s imo.

Mummyratbag · 29/03/2023 08:07

Cheesy film, but I really fancied Arnie in True Lies - misses point of the thread

MajorCarolDanvers · 29/03/2023 08:09

I lived through the Cold War. (70s and 80s)

It felt more imminent then than now.

darjeelingrose · 29/03/2023 08:31

I cannot tell you how little this worries me. I did my worrying in the 80s.
Also this is the most ridiculous trigger warning ever.

stbrandonsboat · 29/03/2023 09:29

Interesting username OP 🤔 you pop off and try not to worry your little head about these things because we're surely not.

Is there a list somewhere of 'feel good' films about nuclear armageddon?

'The Devil Wears Nug-nug'

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/03/2023 23:30

Hawkins00 · 29/03/2023 23:27

Wargames film

IIRC nobody gets immolated in that or watches their relatives slowly die of radiation poisoning, so while it might be 'feel good', it doesn't involve any actual nuclear armageddon, so I call shenanigans.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/03/2023 23:32

Ok, I'm willing to accept 'The Road'. I won't spoil the ending, but it's clearly meant to be 'feel good', and it's definitely post-apocalyptic.

A list of one, and counting.

catskittens · 29/03/2023 23:35

is the road the American one?

If you mean the 2009 Viggo Mortensen movie, then yes.
