*trigger warning* Nuclear War - Is it more likely than you thought?

Weeks ago I would've said, no, very unlikely to ever happen at all. Nobody wins, etc etc

Recent events, none I can even pinpoint, give me a different feel and I suddenly think it's more likely to happen soon than I did weeks ago

What does everyone else think?

@Kerfuffler - you’re a mere whippersnapper! For its time, I thought the special effects were pretty good in that one, the way it morphed into anyone/anything.

Furries · 28/03/2023 23:54

Ha, had no idea that track existed 🤣

PomonaPomona · 28/03/2023 23:54

There are some extremely sanctimonious, pious, know-it-all, queen b types that seem to feed on the OP's fear posting on here.

Proper little madams and the first to fall to pieces, no doubt about it. Be it stripping themselves out of their tacky bodycon dress or being told their is no BBQ sauce for their super size of nug-nug's from McDonald's . . . . all over the place.

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/03/2023 23:59

I worried when I was a child and watched government warnings like threads, and read books like children of the dust.

Then I grew up, read more widely, discovered critical thinking skills and stopped worrying. It's not on my radar at all.

Threads wasn't a government warning ..

There is a film called Threads. It came out in 1984. It's set in Sheffield. And it's about the aftermath of nuclear war.

Watched it in school , traumatizing 😬 honestly the fall out parts scarred me for life.

Yes! I'm 48 and remember the childhood threat of nuclear war vividly - it was a massively real concern. That and the ozone layer burning a hole over Australia! These seemed to be the two Big Things. Sure remember spitting image and all those gags about pushing the Big Red B utton... Reagan and ... was it Gorbachev in spitting image?

This has reminded me of the music video of Genesis, Land of confusion! Excellent song.

Disagree. I think there are people who are happy to call out deliberately “provoking” threads when they see them.

Nug-nugs - how old are you?

Boussa · 29/03/2023 00:11

"Civilised"

Definitelycross · 29/03/2023 00:14

I am a child of the 80s.

I remember going to the cinema to watch When The Wind Blows.

It was the weirdest feeling ever, walking out of a cinema in silence. Really horrible.

@IClaudine 😂😂😂

Embelline · 29/03/2023 00:17

It worries me that we seem to be repeatedly singled out at the moment and it’s common knowledge we aren’t particularly popular in Europe.
it has crossed my mind more recently but I do try not to think of it.
DS is three and I largely have panicked thoughts about him and what would happen if we weren’t killed immediately.

having said that I really hope that it’s as unlikely as other posters say although I agree there does seem to be a feeling of ramping up at the moment.I

i wonder what the Chinese response would be if putin were to follow through on his threats to the uk (although I understand these are always made through his mouthpieces not directly him unless I’m mistaken)

Embelline · 29/03/2023 00:18

@PomonaPomona have you name changed? You write exactly like another poster on here who was posting about similar things the other day… it’s a very distinctive writing style

OK what is yout contribution to a thread with the word Nuclear in it? I peer reviewed scientific study on twatism?

Swansandcustard · 29/03/2023 00:19

@blueshoes i was going to post the same thoughts! Psyops they used to call it when I was still serving. The Putinbots need to go back to their Brexit demographic, they’re much more malleable.

Deathbyfluffy · 29/03/2023 00:21

I know it sounds defeatist, but there’s nothing to be gained by worrying - enjoy your life, do what makes you happy and live each day as if it’s your last.

Notanotherhousepost · 29/03/2023 00:22

Putin's regime takes Psyops to a whole new level. Hybrid warfare, I guess. I consider it a compliment that Putin thinks UK enough of a threat to directly threaten to nuke us. We are punching above our weight.

Anyone who says 'nug nugs' is suspect. Quite catchy. I will find opportunities to weave nug nugs into my convos tomorrow.
