Things that are socially acceptable but you wish they were not

I feel like a bit of a man. For me:

Men pissing by the side of the road. I have see this twice in the past few days, yet there were public loos close by. If a woman did this people would question her sanity, or at the very least think she was undignified yet for men it's considered normal.

Men going shirtless in public. Do what you like in your own garden, but why walk down the high street etc without a shirt. It's never that hot in England - in fact some much hotter climates actually have dignity laws that prohibit both men and women from even showing their arms or legs. Plus you know, sun burn.

Smoking. I hate walking behind someone who is smoking, it blows back in the face of the person behind and gives me a headache. It's unhealthy, expensive and should just be banged in public full stop imo.

Showing an under boob or side boob. Just put them away.
Sitting in your front garden drinking beer from cans.

We regularly do this - what's wrong with enjoying a drink in our own garden?

NB: The beer bit, not the boob bit!

The odd work person phoning me on spec without having emailed to see if I'm free for a call first.

I prefer it if people will call me first to see if I'm receiving emails at the moment.

PalominoUK · 27/03/2023 15:18

It certainly does, besides, who needs a social life when you've got dogs and/or horses 🥰

I always thought they meant the same thing.

They used to until someone decided there are about 99 genders to choose from. Sex = biological Gender = whatever you decide you want to be

@Daisyismynameorisnot spitting is normal in India, they even provide spittoons there.

It's not normal her and I hope it never will be

There once was a tourist from Ealing,
Who rode on a train in Darjeeling.
It said on the door,
'Do not spit on the floor';
So he carefully spat on the ceiling.

Bluebellsparklypant · 27/03/2023 22:07

Yes men pissing there’s a bus stop by the entrance to the woods we use so they use that as a toilet. Joggers who spit when they are running and dump in the woods- save it till you get home it’s not hard

I'm old fashioned and have a weird habit of going with what words actually mean and NOT whatever the modern trend of misuse that so many people happily throw around.
gender = sex
literally = actually, NOT "not literally". Hell, I don't even use this word anymore, they have so ruined it with that misuse
jealous =/= envious. These words are not interchangeable, yet everyone just defaults to "jealous"
same with amount and less. People default to those, even in cases where they should use number and fewer.
And don't even get me started on pronoun/apostrophe abuse...

This thread has revealed some awful truths about some of the people on Mumsnet.

Oh get over yourself. We all have dark thoughts, pet hates and intolerances. It’s a safe space to share them here. I’ve had a right moan on this thread but I’m very nice in real life!

So single people should never be able to drive anywhere ?

Yes, my thought too.
Filling a car, usually by having several children, is more of an environmental blow than a single person journey.

emptythelitterbox · 26/03/2023 04:09

People who do this are sizing up your socioeconomic status to decide whether you're worth talking to or not.

Exactly this; it's not just chatting, it's assessing.

MNisMyGuiltyPleasure · 28/03/2023 09:55

Loud kids (even worse: kids running around) in cafes, restaurants, and the like. If they need to run around, take them to the park!

xogossipgirlxo · 28/03/2023 10:43

Thinking that e cigs are ok to be used in public places and among people. I don't want to step into your smoke cloud even if it smells blueberries.

Or kids on scooters in supermarkets..
Why do parents/carers even think this is acceptable.

Sainte · 28/03/2023 13:10

When did urinating in public become acceptable?

Ineke · 28/03/2023 13:35

If we are going to bring in language and grammar, then when did it become acceptable to say them instead of those? It irks me so much that I will correct anyone who uses it with me. Eg. I would like to but those oranges, not them oranges.

PhillySub · 28/03/2023 21:35

FavouriteDogMug · 24/03/2023 21:04

I know a lot of people won't agree with this but dressing in formal "smart" clothes. I hate wearing uncomfortable stuffy things and if everyone else was also always casually dressed I would fit in and never have to worry about what to wear for work or parties.

But why do you buy and wear uncomfortable formal smart clothes? That is on you.
