Noooo NOT Bake Off

Just heard Alison Hammond is to co host Bake Off. Totally ruined it for me now. Bad enough when Mel and Sue left. I’m not sure Mr Hollywood is going to appreciate the competition.

She's perfect! She's absolutely brilliant and funny, can't wait!

ScribblingPixie · 17/03/2023 14:12

If she keeps it to the calmer end of the scale, I think she'll be great.

Just being pedantic here, its not a big percentage at all.

At least you accept you're being pedantic 😉

So I'm going to be pedantic back.

18% of the UK population is non-white from a quick google. So far there have been 5 presenters (not counting the extra 3 white judges) -

Sue, Mel, Noel, Sandi, Matt

So if the presenters reflect the population, 1 of them should already have been non-white. Therefore, high time :)

Alison will be great on the show. Yes of course she is very OTT but she is a very bubbly, fun and likeable character. She has had a long career in television already so I'm sure she will tone it down a bit to match the show. I can't wait for the next series!!!

"A long career in Television". 😆She 'started off' as a member of the public in Big Brother.
Hasn't trained, hasn't done anything except ' be a personality'. That's the way of it now in this Country though isn't it. Down and down we go...

Let's not go down this route because then someone will point out the demographics in the adverts on TV at the minute!

FancyFanny · 17/03/2023 14:15

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!😮

People are entitled to an opinion and it's clear from this and other posts I've seen that Hammond splits the nation, half love her, half despise her
To me she's a loudmouth attention seeking gobshite

😂😂😂

SummerWinterSummerWinter · 17/03/2023 14:15

@user1471517095 ha yes probably wise - not trying to start an argument, was just responding to a particularly belligerent comment!!

Her appearance in that Christmas ad, just no, sitting queen bee at a Banquet when the next min it's food banks on the news....pissed me right off. Tone bloody deaf.

Alison Hammond was working in an advert she isn't responsible for rise in poverty and food banks !

The main criteria should be her ability to do the job, though, not her ethnicity. If you put someone in a position that they’re not well-equipped to handle, it’s unfair to them and doesn’t really help to promote diversity.

Alison had presenting experience and a bubbly personality so those are pluses. No idea whether she has any baking experience, which I presume would be helpful for this programme.

The question is whether her loud enthusiasm will appeal to Bake-Off viewers and I’m not sure that it will -but let’s see.

tywyll · 17/03/2023 14:26

I don't like Noel Fielding presenting but was surprised that Matt Lucas was much better than I was expecting - seemed able to connect with some of the contestants without being a compete irritating pain in the arse that Noel often is.

The skits they did were unbelievably cringe and not all funny. However I didn't warm to Sandi Toksvig but think she is brilliant in pretty much everything else I've seen or heard her do but not in bake off.

I miss Sal and Mel and the history bits and the skill level of the bakers being much higher.

I'm not sure what to think about Alison Hammond I don't tend to like her daytime TV presentation but may be she'll inject some much needed warmth into the show.

I think we'll only watch if our youngest still has an interest in watching with us otherwise think we'll likely stop as it's gone off somehow.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 17/03/2023 14:33

I like AH.

VixenTodd · 17/03/2023 14:35

I don't think it will work out in terms of banter with Noel Fielding. I hate that format where you have a presenter pretending to be all ignorant about baking but loves eating everything out of the oven with all the oohs aaahs and jokey mispronunciations. The current lot are so bad that the only way is up but we may still be on the plateau for a few seasons.

torquewench · 17/03/2023 14:37

Can't stand her. So loud and fake. Her true character showed through when Ant & Dec pranked her for SNT.

CremeEggQueen · 17/03/2023 14:39

Aw, I love Alison Hammond!
She's just so upbeat and her laugh gets me every time 😁

I didn’t watch the last series, couldn’t take to Matt Lucas at all, and sort of dipped in and out of the one before last. I like Allison though, so it might persuade me to give GBBO another go.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 17/03/2023 12:03

I think it's good to have a non white host.

Why is this relevant?

Not so much to do with relevance more to do with inevitability.

mondaytosunday · 17/03/2023 14:46

Never like Mel and Sue and Nadia would be far to sincere- you need someone light hearted. They've done pretty well with the parings so far so happy to see how Allison pans out 🤣

🙄 Nothing wrong with how she was on that at all.

Love Alison, shes funny.

whynotwhatknot · 17/03/2023 14:51

i like the concept but cant stand ph absolutely in love with himself-alison is fun good luck to her

SometimesNine · 17/03/2023 14:54

I had to google who she is, never heard of her, as I don't watch morning TV, but surely anyone is better than Matt Lucas?!

lazycats · 17/03/2023 14:55

It doesn't matter who hosts it, the scripts for the hosts are always terrible.

Wheresthebeach · 17/03/2023 14:56

I'm not overjoyed. I think they should have stayed with a comedian rather than just a day time host - she's too loud.

FancyFanny · 17/03/2023 14:57

Only around 7% of the UK population are black or mixed race. Why do people feel that every programme has to have a black presenter to be representative of the UK population? Black people are more than fairly represented on British TV. They aren't even the biggest minority group in Britain- the asian population is bigger. I'd like to see presenters chosen for their suitability and talent, not because they tick a box. Alison Hammond is OK if you like that loud colourful style of presenting and those sorts of shows, but don't think that's right for bakeoff.

I'd love see Nadiya back as a judge rather than a presenter.

I think Dawn French, Tom Allen, Joe Lycette etc. would make better presenters. It requires someone who can be a bit tongue in cheek, someone who can be funny but a little cutting with Paul Hollywood, someone rather dry to offset the tweeness of it all.
