Noooo NOT Bake Off

Just heard Alison Hammond is to co host Bake Off. Totally ruined it for me now. Bad enough when Mel and Sue left. I’m not sure Mr Hollywood is going to appreciate the competition.

OP posts:

Aussie bake off was on all 4. Presenters could still be annoying but the standard of baking was so much better than here

0021andabit · 17/03/2023 13:48

I think she’ll be great. You need someone the contestants feel comfortable & relaxed round & I think she’ll be that. She’s so warm & likeable. I switched off when it was Matt but I love her, so might give it another chance.

Murphyturphy · 17/03/2023 13:48

I like her. At least she's got a personality. I didn't like Matt or Sandy as hosts.

Apparently bake off people have realised that they've got things wrong in the last couple of years and are going back to basics for this series.

They had to stop the history bits when they started making up silly themes I guess.

I mean how do you make a film about Swedish badger biscuit towers?

user1471517095 · 17/03/2023 13:50

As long as she isn't that loud that she overshadows the actual contestants. Some of us do tune in for the baking and aren't that interested in the supposed funny bits.

BellePeppa · 17/03/2023 13:50

Oh gawd, I will not be able to tolerate that fake raucous laugh she has. (Oh ha, just remembered I cancelled my tv licence so won’t be watching anyway 😁).

daisydot22 · 17/03/2023 13:50

I like Allison but I don't think she's the right fit for bake off. The host humour is always a bit silly and off the wall. Matt and Noel/ Sandi and and Noel did it brilliantly. Allison is funny but in a different way. And she's way too loud for the tent.

I'll give it a chance but Im not convinced.

shadypines · 17/03/2023 13:51

Her appearance in that Christmas ad, just no, sitting queen bee at a Banquet when the next min it's food banks on the news....pissed me right off. Tone bloody deaf.

TragicMuse · 17/03/2023 13:06

It lost me at Prue Leith. She doesn't even like cake and I can't stand all that 'worth the calories' bullshit.

But now it's totally jumped the shark with 'construct a croquembouche storyboard of your childhood trauma', 'tell the story of your defloration with 16 different biscuits. Every biscuit must be a different shape and size and you must use orange flower water in 35.76% of the batch. They need to be iced in the style of Monet, and you should ensure they have a perfectly round hole in the centre of each biscuit'.

No thanks. Think I'll make a nice Victoria Sponge.

😁😁spot on

I like Alison but they really need judges who actually bake so know what they're talking about.

She's a presenter not a judge.

BellePeppa · 17/03/2023 13:55

I did think when I saw the title it was going to be some depressingly woke shite so at least relieved it’s just about loud Alison.

SirChenjins · 17/03/2023 13:55

I think Nadya would have been brilliant - she's obviously a hugely talented baker and has been on the other side, so knows what the contestants are going through, plus she has a very wicked sense of humour.

Cliff1975 · 17/03/2023 13:56

She will be wonderful - how mean is this thread!

Why's it mean? People are allowed to like different things.

People are entitled to an opinion and it's clear from this and other posts I've seen that Hammond splits the nation, half love her, half despise her
To me she's a loudmouth attention seeking gobshite

I think it's good to have a non white host.

Why is this relevant?

Err because a big percentage of the British population is not white?

And yet EVERY single presenter on it so far has been white?

Not that hard to figure out?

Nadya is wonderful. She would be a brilliant judge. She's too knowledgeable to just be a presenter.

If channel 4 are reading - Nadya Hussain and John Whaite as judges please 🙏

Just being pedantic here, its not a big percentage at all.

People can not like her, but they're using some really nasty descriptors

Yes that's a fair point. She'd be brilliant as a judge though.

She would be better as a presenter as neither of the judges need a lot of personality or charisma.

She is too funny and sharp to be wasted on judging.

GoodChat · 17/03/2023 14:07

@Shekissedagirlandshelikedit point still stands

MrsMitford3 · 17/03/2023 14:10

I think Allison an awkward fit-but Bake Off is changing so much anyway-last season was pretty poor-weak contestants and terrible challenges-and Noel and Matt just so annoying.
As I said on one of the bake off threads if Paul was a cake he'd eat himself.

I'd like to see it back to it's roots and remember the reasons we all watched it.

Solid contestants, bakes we all want to eat and bake and challenges that can actually be completed in the time given!!!
