Noooo NOT Bake Off

Just heard Alison Hammond is to co host Bake Off. Totally ruined it for me now. Bad enough when Mel and Sue left. I’m not sure Mr Hollywood is going to appreciate the competition.

Maybe see how she does first? Maybe good as she will be more than a match for PH! Nadya would be better as a judge than a host I think

Only around 7% of the UK population are black or mixed race. Why do people feel that every programme has to have a black presenter to be representative of the UK population? Black people are more than fairly represented on British TV. They aren't even the biggest minority group in Britain- the asian population is bigger. I'd like to see presenters chosen for their suitability and talent, not because they tick a box. Alison Hammond is OK if you like that loud colourful style of presenting and those sorts of shows, but don't think that's right for bakeoff.

I'd love see Nadiya back as a judge rather than a presenter.

I think Dawn French, Tom Allen, Joe Lycette etc. would make better presenters. It requires someone who can be a bit tongue in cheek, someone who can be funny but a little cutting with Paul Hollywood, someone rather dry to offset the tweeness of it all.

So I'm going to be pedantic back.

18% of the UK population is non-white from a quick google. So far there have been 5 presenters (not counting the extra 3 white judges) -

Sue, Mel, Noel, Sandi, Matt

So if the presenters reflect the population, 1 of them should already have been non-white. Therefore, high time :)

Matt was awful, though I thought he’d be fine. So I’ll give Alison the benefit of the doubt until I see her in action. Wish they’d replace Noel. He’s not as bad as Matt was, but he’s got very dull. It’s the same schtick every season and it’s not the sort of style that benefits from repetition. Though may be what the program really needs is some better script writers for the hosts.

Matt was never going to work because he was too famous for one thing : Little Britain. AH has not scaled those heights so she may work better but only if Noel goes and she is put with a compatible co-host.

Well, that's a matter of opinion, isn't it - you think she's annoying, whereas I think she's ace 😁

What a relief I quite like her, good to have someone who’s naturally funny in the show. Also when I read your AIBU I thought it might be Eddie Izzard or similar so thankfully good to see a woman who clearly knows what a cake is presenting. Although I do miss Mel and Sue

I like Alison!

I never liked Noel Fielding but he's won me over, he's calm and funny on the show.

I always loved Matt Lucas but he was dreadful on Bake Off, really disappointing.

So, safe to say I'm terrible at judging whether a presenter will be any good or not so I'm happy to watch and see, I wish her well and hope she does a great job.

I can't stand her. So full of herself and trying to make everything she is on all about her.

That awful fake laugh, the screeching voice and the calling everyone "babe". Unless they get her to tone her act down she will be awful.

I will probably watch the first one and if she doesn't annoy me so much that I shout at the tv (which I very much doubt) I will watch more.

I don't know why she's getting so many gigs. That raucous laugh grates on every last bit of my nerves.
