Noooo NOT Bake Off

Mypinkysperky · 17/03/2023 11:58

Just heard Alison Hammond is to co host Bake Off. Totally ruined it for me now. Bad enough when Mel and Sue left. I’m not sure Mr Hollywood is going to appreciate the competition.

OP posts:

I dont watch this morning or shows like that but I have seen her on other things and she is really really funny and sharp. I like her. I would expect she will be really good.

TragicMuse · 17/03/2023 13:06

It lost me at Prue Leith. She doesn't even like cake and I can't stand all that 'worth the calories' bullshit.

But now it's totally jumped the shark with 'construct a croquembouche storyboard of your childhood trauma', 'tell the story of your defloration with 16 different biscuits. Every biscuit must be a different shape and size and you must use orange flower water in 35.76% of the batch. They need to be iced in the style of Monet, and you should ensure they have a perfectly round hole in the centre of each biscuit'.

No thanks. Think I'll make a nice Victoria Sponge.

TragicMuse · 17/03/2023 13:08

I don't mind Alison Hammond as far as I know of her - which is limited. But I'm not great with 'bubbly', it's just irritating.

I love her. She’s so genuine and has such a good laugh. I don’t find her ott or gobby or whatever else women like to call other women to put them down.

She’ll be fab for the show and I can imagine how well she and Noel will play off each other.

Talipesmum · 17/03/2023 13:09

I really like her, let’s see how it goes. Always mourn Mel and sue, but they aren’t coming back!

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 17/03/2023 13:13

I don't actually know who she is. Blush

If she is replacing Matt Lucas, I'm willing to give it a go. I haven't enjoyed watching him. I really like Noel though and would be sad to see him go.

I think GBBO is losing its appeal in any case, though. I always loved it but couldn't be arsed to get to the end of the last series. It all feels a bit too samey.

Ttwinkletoes · 17/03/2023 13:15

Never heard of her

saveforthat · 17/03/2023 13:15

I think it's good to have a non white host.

Why is this relevant?

Yes why? Imagine if someone said it would be good to have a non black host. Frankly I thought anyone would be better than Noel Fielding but sadly he's not leaving..

Oh give over, neither OTT nor gobby are terms women use to put other women down.

Bubbly though - have you ever heard a man being called bubbly?

Anyway I think Alison will be a good fit. I'd like the show to be more about baking and less around making the contestants make a standing Humber Bridge out of biscuits in half an hour though. The ridiculous time constraints and more and more complex demands are crackers.

StepHigh · 17/03/2023 13:16

Should have kept Matt and binned Paul.

TheRealHousewife · 17/03/2023 13:16

What an awful spiteful thread @Mypinkysperky . Totally unkind and uncalled for.

SirChenjins · 17/03/2023 13:21

Nothing spiteful at all about the OP - it's perfectly reasonable to discuss a new presenter on a long running and much loved series like BO.

leafygarden · 17/03/2023 13:27

PotatoFacedWombat · 17/03/2023 12:07

I think she's perfect. Such a warm and likeable character.

I agree - always liked her.

Whitewolf2 · 17/03/2023 13:28

I’ll watch it and see. Maybe she’ll be less ott in this setting, she does seem like someone who could be genuine in getting to know the contestants, Matt Lucas never really felt like a people person.

Turnipworkharder · 17/03/2023 13:30

I will start watching again now.
Love Allison's personality.

Crumpetdisappointment · 17/03/2023 13:31

Not keen, she has done well though in 20 yearssince big brother

JamSandle · 17/03/2023 13:31

I think it's good to have a non white host. I was hoping it would be Nadya. I don't watch GBBO anymore though as it's so terrible now, sonata immaterial to me who hosts. Can't stand PH either. The Australian one is better.

Why?

“And you have twenty minutes in which to do it.”

Doesthepopeshitinthewoods · 17/03/2023 13:34

Alison is really entertaining. I think she’ll be great.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 17/03/2023 13:34

I think she could be alright if she tones it down a notch. I got fed up with Noel and Matt and their "funny" bits. One slightly quirky comedian is more than plenty, didn't need two of them.

AmyDudley · 17/03/2023 13:40

I didn't watch the last series of Bake Off - it had got so turgid and dull. But I might start again if Alison is on it. I think she's hilarious and incredibly likeable, good luck to her.

CallMeMabel · 17/03/2023 13:44

I don't want to watch anything with Alison Hammond in it, she's a total dose.

Allblackeverythingalways · 17/03/2023 13:45

Oh no ☹️
She's too loud!
Bakeoff humour has always been understated
I'm a bit sad about this

RinklyRomaine · 17/03/2023 13:45

I loathe Matt Lucas so good riddance but Hammond? Hmm.

Mrsjayy · 17/03/2023 13:47

Noel.Fielding is a terrible host least Sandy carried him well, I liked Matt but stopped watching as it got really bad dull. I'll watch Alison see hoe she goes.
