Noooo NOT Bake Off

Just heard Alison Hammond is to co host Bake Off. Totally ruined it for me now. Bad enough when Mel and Sue left. I’m not sure Mr Hollywood is going to appreciate the competition.

She hasn't changed her personality for anything else why wouod she for bake off?

Seriously perhaps use an unknown presenter instead there are too many big personalities on the show there will be no room for the contestants personalities

^ this!

I would like to see some fresh talent not the same cycle of regurgitated favoured presenters rehashed over and over again.

Exactly! She's a professional

No. She is not a professional. She was a contestant in the BB House and a nobody.
Half of Television these days is full of 'reality stars' with no talent whatsoever.
As I mentioned earlier, down and down we go...

I saw her recently on some show where she was in Monaco or something like that meeting rich people and asking about their lives. She was great, interesting and funny yes but really genuine and honest about what she thought and gave space to find out from the people she met about their experiences. I think shes a good choice

Tessisme · 17/03/2023 22:19

No. She is not a professional. She was a contestant in the BB House and a nobody.

How is this relevant? Everyone on TV is a 'nobody' until they gain experience and become a somebody. What a nasty little remark.

Also, I don't think it's fair to speculate in advance. Let her do the job and then decide if you like her or not.

I'm talking about a Journalistic background here, or starting in the business at the bottom and working your way up. Not reality TV ie. TOWIE, Love Island etc who then go on to 'present' on TV etc. and I'm talking from my professional experience.
Anyway I wasn't quoting you was I?
Now wind your neck in. Or are you a ' talentless reality star?'😂

This is a nasty, snobbish remark.
I'm all for having a journalistic background, that's how I went into it. Work your way up.
You're seriously stuck back in the 80s/90s in your own little time warp though if you don't realise or are refusing to accept that times have changed.
It's not the only route in, and not having the background doesn't mean you're automatically no good. 🙄

And your comments explain exactly the trashy, crap, talentless, cheap, naff programmes that we have on TV. (which you are obviously contributing to)

(Times have changed, so that's alright then😆)

How dare you assume and insult me personally when you know NOTHING about me or my background.

Twat off, do.

What, for saying it was a nasty snobbish remark?! 🙄
If you're dishing out stuff like wind your neck in to others thought you'd be a bit tougher than that.

CremeEggQueen · 17/03/2023 23:44

Oh and saying you're stuck in a time warp isn't insulting you personally if that's what you were getting at instead- it was a turn of phrase, unless you really are sat in a 90s house somewhere and felt 'seen"

Great to see some diversity upsetting the posters on here

ODFOx · 18/03/2023 00:09

Is Noel Fielding staying? It will be an unconventional pairing.
Noel and Matt didn't work well together like Noel and Sandi, so a new pairing will be interesting.

Fuck all to do with 'diversity' - everything to do with trashy presenting style.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

MargotMoon · 18/03/2023 08:18

Alison's greatest moment was on Big Brother, when she announced to the rest of the house, "Come on everyone, we've got to use up these biscuits".

She'll be PERFECT for Bake Off!! 👍

What age are you? 8? This is a public forum and I can quote whoever I like. Look, I've just done it again. You are ridiculous.

NadjaCravensworth1 · 17/03/2023 20:24

Why don't you give her a chance? Jesus. Did you consider she might adapt to the tone of the show?

Ha ha ha ha ha. Yes she surely will adapt to the tone of the show!

Bagzzz · 18/03/2023 08:39

I’m not sure I’ll watch next series. The challenges are ridiculous as is the time. I want to see the bakers best work at least some of the time. I want to see them baking in a proper kitchen kept cool for ice cream and chocolate recipes.

I want the bakers to be the stars not the presenters. I don’t know Alison so will give her a chance if I decide to watch. Bit worried there will be more antics though Digital Spy quotes a tweet from Noel:

writing: "It gives me so much pleasure to welcome .,[wouldn’t let me post the thing to Alison for some reason]
We are gonna spend the whole time giggling like naughty school kids. The bakers are gonna love you to bits."

I just see the bakers look stressed when Matt or Noel mess about

This reminds me of an episode of Frasier- he daren't say he didn't like working with Dr Mary cos he didn't like her presenting style - because he was worried he'd be accused of racism. People are allowed to say things about Alison's presenting without been perceived as a racist. I just think she's a bit OTT and would need to tone down and not overshadow the actual contestants.

follyfoot37 · 18/03/2023 08:57

Zer · 17/03/2023 12:01

I think it's good to have a non white host. I was hoping it would be Nadya. I don't watch GBBO anymore though as it's so terrible now, sonata immaterial to me who hosts. Can't stand PH either. The Australian one is better.

Agree, but not Alison Hammond.
She has the completely wrong vibe for the show.
And I remain scarred from the excruciating BAFTA 'interviews' she undertook

follyfoot37 · 18/03/2023 09:00

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 17/03/2023 12:09

I love Alison. What a mean post. You don't have to watch it.

it isn't mean. As most are saying, she is wrong for GBBO; it is a calm and relaxing affair. She is game show excitable, which is great for a game show
It isn't personal. I would be the same if for example, if Tess Daley was to present

follyfoot37 · 18/03/2023 09:08

stillherenow · 17/03/2023 17:02

She’ll be great, they need someone who can emotionally connect with the contestants and she will.

'Emotinally connect with the contestants..'
???? It's a mediocre tv show about baking, not Storyville or any other serious programme

Hmmph · 18/03/2023 09:19

GBBO needs funny presenters who keep the mood light, but are able to be kind to bakers if a disaster occurs. They need to make the show not be the show. The bakes should also be about baking ability not just about presentation. It should be a gentle program. As such I think it's lost its way a bit.

I don't know Alison Hammond. I hope she isn't as loud and look-at-me as this thread implies. I will give her the benefit of the doubt. I haven't been keen on anyone since Mel and Sue. I also agree Dawn French could work very well in this role.

I also agree that Junior Bake Off is far superior. Rav and Liam are lovely and Harry Hill is very good as a presenter of JBO (would be awful on GBBO though). He is so ridiculous in his humour that he makes the kids roll their eyes, but he's nice and they clearly like him as he makes them feel unstressed. And he is not remotely patronising.

Not at all - if they were putting something like Bongo’s Bingo on TV and they announced Alison Hammond was presenting then I’d think they’d got the right presenter. GBBO just isn’t the right platform for her presenting style.
