Is this the right length of sentence to reflect the damage done?

OP posts:
listsandbudgets · 16/03/2023 08:42

Should have been longer:

She ruined the lives of the accused to the extent some tried to kill themselves, split a community, misused many thousands of police funding and who knows how much time time which could have been spent dealing with real crimes and real survivors, made it harder for real victims to be believed, showed almost no remorse, used hours and hours of court time, , cost the NHS money dealing with her fabricated injuries..

Give false accusers the same as those they accused would have got if found guilty based on their lies.. the judge was too soft. I hope this is reviewd by Atttorney General and rhe sentence is extended substantially.

I also hope she gets substantial mental health support while serving her sentence

Here's the damage that she's done, and the fall out will last for years, damaging many many women from her community.

If you care about female rape victims, you should not be defending this woman.

This^

She hit herself in the FACE with a HAMMER to prove a lie. That is 100% a signal of serious mental instability. This woman needs psychological help. Yes, she clearly hurt people. Yes, she lied. Yes, she needed to be stopped. I don’t disagree with the sentence. Although I am disturbed that she started making her accusations as a child and this doesn’t appear to have been taken into account.

But it makes me sick that we live in a society that punishes a crazy woman more harshly than actual rapists and child molesters.

And I do not agree that she is responsible for the knock-on effects in Barrow. Tommy R and his rent-a-mob goons are solely responsible for their demonstrations. As are those who targeted violence at the men who were falsely accused.

I hope all the affected families recover quickly.

I agree

Nooyoiknooyoik · 16/03/2023 22:20

And no, I don’t agree with a pp’s opinion that all rapists and child molesters are mentally ill (though some are of course). Most do it because they want to and they can.

But if a rapist hit himself in the face with a hammer during his crime I might be more suspicious of a mental illness.

Wayne Couzens kept banging his head on the Police cell wall and was taken to hospital. He stopped, after he realised it wasn't wearing well with the Police and probably, because he had a headache.

lauraloulou1 · 21/03/2023 21:01

Do we trust the police to investigate sexual crimes? Do we trust them to do so at all or ever?

SinnerBoy · 22/03/2023 01:37

@lauraloulou1

Well, when you read what this Police woman has to say, you'd conclude that you shouldn't:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11885303/Susanna-Reid-feels-frightened-women-London-damning-Met-Police-report.html

One female officer, who claims she was raped by a male colleague while they were dating, told Dame Louise: 'If I went through the same things I went through back then I would 100% not report it and I would advise my friends and family not to either. It's not worth it. I wouldn't report it to the police. I tried to kill myself that year because of the police investigation, it was draining the life out of me'.

Susanna Reid feels 'frightened' for women after damning Met report

Susanna cited the Casey report, where one officer commented that the rate of detection for rapes in London was so low 'it may as well be legal'.

Rape carries a maximum life sentence, starting point is 5 years. Rapists are treated as pariahs in prison. This woman ruined lives.

Fucking rapists ruin lives too! And they might get 5 years in the extremely rare case that they are convicted of rape. Less than one in 100 reported rapes actually leads to a conviction,

And that's 1% of rapes that are reported to police. You can only guess at how many more women don't report an attack that left them traumatised, feeling filthy or even ashamed of having somehow provoked the assault.

Yes, she did a terrible thing and it should be taken seriously. If only police and local authorities had taken the crimes against girls in Rotherham etc seriously -- a far greater number of people whose lives were ruined.

But let's throw the book at a woman who is clearly in need of mental healthcare. A history of self-harm, to the extent of smashing her own face up with a hammer.

God, how I wish violence against women and girls was treated so seriously.

New scorecards show under 1% of reported rapes lead to conviction – criminologist explains why England’s justice system continues to fail | City, University of London

Dr Katrin Hohl, a criminologist at City, University of London, assesses why rape prosecutions are so low, why cases take so long, and why most victims withdraw their case.

@Ofcourseshecan And that is one of the reasons EW is so hated - she took valuable police resource away from REAL victims of rape. Maybe if all those hours and money had gone to another case, someone else would have seen proper justice.

Never mind throwing the book - chuck a whole library at her and her ilk.

But yes, she definitely seems to need mental health support and I really hope she gets it
