What is going on at the BBC right now?

What with the news breaking today ( 10/03/23) that Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day and now Ian Wright is also not going to appear on the show in solidarity. They also have said that they will not air a David Attenborough (what the hell did he do/say that pushed their buttons) episode due to fears of a right-wing backlash. On top of that, Fiona Bruce has said that Stanley Johnson 'only' broke his wife's nose once (I mean just how many times is too many, I ask ye).

What the hell is going on at the BBC right now????

Sources:
David Attenborough being cancelled
Gary Lineker stepping back from MotD
Ian Wright standing by Gary
Fiona Bruce story

Just wondering if anyone can make sense of what is going on in the BBC at the moment.

Fiona Bruce was just giving context.

it really is nuts that Gary LInneker has been silenced just for mentioning wartime german speech.

The BBC do need to grow a backbone I agree with that.

Sorry but that’s bullsh*t

F1 is, why not footie?

a) this is MOTD not an entire match
b) football is not F1
c) part of the BBC's charter includes sport . They have failed woefully to keep their hands on most of it.
d) some people who want to watch football don't have Sky.

When is it going to stop, it's not sustainable

What do you mean?

It's ok, folks- generally, it's only poor Western girls and women that suffer as a result of unregulated influxes of men from countries that believe women are inferior

although, of course there were the sexual assaults en masse in Cologne- which were women from a variety of backgrounds (that went under the radar, didn't it? where's Lineker when you need him)

but, no, on balance our daughters should be ok and, let's face it, we know we'll ultimately end up in some naice, middle class enclave- even if we do our time in some shithole when younger- we'll be safe and surrounded by our peers

Yeah I've seen the error of my ways, I'm all for the luxury politics of Lineker et al- they work very well if you're middle class and gosh look how virtuous I am

What on earth are you on about? Are you saying immigrants come here in order to rape 'our' daughters?

I would say that Lineker has irrational luxury beliefs.

Yes it's poor females that suffer from the recent weird ideologies of the left.

Are you on glue ?? Lineker compared the Uk with Nazi Germany for wanting to limit the amount of migrants reaching our shores. We’re a small country, I’m all for those who are genuinely in danger given asylum, but not for economic migrants. Have a look at what’s going on in Ireland.

No he didn't. He said the language used was like Germany in the 1930s. I haven't seen anything about him saying we should or shouldn't limit numbers. He is talking about the language that is demonising people which is like what happened in Germany in the 30s.

3amflatulence · 10/03/2023 20:27

yes, of course, @Believeitornot that's exactly what I'm saying

Who’s been in charge of the government since 2010?

Who has been writing the laws since 2010?

Turkey: 3 million refugees
That is a LOT of people, mainly who live in camps

The EU pays to keep them there -

Whether people do or dont agree with his comments is a bit irrelevant because I suspect that his solicitors are going to find that he is able to tweet his own personal views in his own personal time given he is simply a TV presenter and not a representative of the BBC whil doing so. Impartiality doesnt mean what people think it means in that context

Piggywaspushed · 10/03/2023 20:28

58 men were arrested for the attacks on women in Cologne.

55 of them were NOT refugees.

He's had refugees living in his house. He doesn't just talk the talk.

The numbers show that we literally don’t.

2020, so not updated, but according to the UN we at number 5, IN THE WORLD for foreign born nationals. The list is USA, Germany, Saudi, Russia (this will have changed!), then UK.

Who’s been in charge of the government since 2010?

Who has been writing the laws since 2010?

Who captured the Institutions with odd science denial ideologies?

We haven't lived in a democracy for a while, ideological capture and cowards rule us not those elected.

I would be wary of conflating criminals with their nationality.

If they commit a crime, deal with them accordingly, but implying that asylum seekers shouldn’t be allowed in the U.K. because of potential for law breaking - that implies you think they’re all criminals.

Rosscameasdoody · 10/03/2023 20:30

Believeitornot · 10/03/2023 20:22

How do you know they’re all economic migrants?

You are basically suggesting that all asylum seekers were here “on the take”.

Didn’t say they’re all economic migrants. But I basically agree with what the government is doing to limit the numbers. The reason the lawyers are jumping on it is because there is a lot of money to be made for them. I live in an area of high immigration and the crime rate has increased massively and infrastructure is creaking under the strain. How else are we supposed to cope with it ?

You did.

The lawyers are jumping on it because it is unlawful.

Why doesn’t the government come up with lawful options? Can’t be hard.

Hopefully the end of motd, it should be on a Sky pay channel or somewhere like that

Why? Anything else you want to remove from mainstream TV just because you don't like it?

Gary Lineker's profile gives him a voice. Fair play to him for using it.

Whether of not you agree with his opinion, I do admire his willingness to speak out.

As long as he is using his voice in the 'right' way to match the current trends in correct opinion. If you want to bang in about 'free speech' it has to apply both on things you like and those you don't.

I presume you didn’t see a couple of films uploaded to YouTube this week. Northern Ireland. A woman walking home in the dark accosted by a group of immigrants from the local hotel accommodating them. A man following her and two in front making sure she can’t get away. Not suggesting that all migrants are like this, but it’s a cause for concern.

Notaflippinclue · 10/03/2023 20:33

What's the answer, is there a country in Europe with an open door policy, we push back to France, they push back to Italy & Germany only takes skilled workers, Greece have activated the EU civil protection mechanism asking for tents and generators & Turkey couldn't take anymore before their own crisis, and so it goes- what is the answer.
