What is going on at the BBC right now?

What with the news breaking today ( 10/03/23) that Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day and now Ian Wright is also not going to appear on the show in solidarity. They also have said that they will not air a David Attenborough (what the hell did he do/say that pushed their buttons) episode due to fears of a right-wing backlash. On top of that, Fiona Bruce has said that Stanley Johnson 'only' broke his wife's nose once (I mean just how many times is too many, I ask ye).

What the hell is going on at the BBC right now????

Sources:
David Attenborough being cancelled
Gary Lineker stepping back from MotD
Ian Wright standing by Gary
Fiona Bruce story

Just wondering if anyone can make sense of what is going on in the BBC at the moment.

Think about why that makes no sense.

It's not complicated

The government’s primary responsibility is to keep the public safe.

Control immigration, stop illegal arrivals, identify those claiming asylum or don’t let them in, remove those with no right to be here, and make sure that criminals and terrorists are kept out of Britain.

This will save lives. It’s not difficult.

borntobequiet · 14/03/2023 18:23

We can't even deport criminals because of all the 'pinkos' in the judiciary.

It’s as though these “pinko” judges made up the law as they went along. Yes of course, that’s how it happens. They should be locked up - or better still, deported - themselves.

Of course they should, after all they’re Enemies of the People, aren’t they?

Where does it say that ?

And safe from what, pray tell, my learned friend ?

Safe from want ? Safe from hunger ? Safe from pain ? Safe from disease ? Safe from ignorance ? Safe from hatred ? Safe from zombies ?

If it is the governments primary responsibility, then they aren't doing very well are they ? In fact, by your definition they should be evicted asap.

It is the first responsibility of government in a democratic society to protect and safeguard the lives of its citizens. That is where the public interest lies. It is essential to the preservation of democracy, and it is the duty of the court to do all it can to respect and uphold that principle.

woodhill · 14/03/2023 19:51

Have to agree

Seventytwosunsetstrip · 14/03/2023 19:52

@SerendipityJane If it is the governments primary responsibility, then they aren't doing very well are they ?

So how do you think they are failing and how would you fix that?

There are nearly a million children in this country living in poverty. People are dying on NHS waiting lists. The police is so rotten women are being raped and murdered by its officers. None of that looks much like protecting and safeguarding the lives of citizens to me.

woodhill · 14/03/2023 20:21

So why do we need even more people here then

I ask again, how would you fix it?

Once again, where does it say that ? I know you said it. But you have said a lot of things.

If we (well I) have learned anything over the past few years, it's that things I thought were the governments responsibility aren't. Or at least aren't when they are pressed. Food security, for one

www.sustainweb.org/blogs/sep19_government_says_it_has_no_duty_to_secure_food_in_a_crisis/

I am a strong believer in the notion of the social contract. We - as subjects - give up certain freedoms to the state in exchange for the provision of certain undertakings. And generally the courts exist to provide redress when that contract is dishonoured.

Beyond that, it's all slogans, expense accounts, and fancy hats.

GPTec1 · 14/03/2023 22:05

Here's another
How about the Liverpool bomber Emad Jamil Al-Swealmeen, 32, who is believed to have had two separate asylum claims rejected in 2015 and 2017, who lied to the authorities and who was convicted of a crime involving a knife, but who was able to remain in the UK for years and allowed to carry out what could have been a devastating attack on Remembrance Sunday in November 2021

So a british judge threw out his asylum claim, which blows a hole in your pinko judges nonsense and it was in fact the UK Govt which failed to deport him back to Iraq.

Its good to know you put such faith in the UK Govt to get immigration under control right on their n+1 attempt.

No one on here or anyone else wants an open door immigration policy, you just made that up, which just about sums up much of your rants.

Seventytwosunsetstrip · 14/03/2023 20:33

I ask again, how would you fix it?

If I wanted to fix it I’d be a politician.

Seventytwosunsetstrip · 14/03/2023 22:20

Blossomtoes · 14/03/2023 22:11

If I wanted to fix it I’d be a politician.

So you don't want to fix it?

And you don't know how it could be fixed ?

Yet you don't want anyone else to try and fix it?

This all begs the question; do you know what you actually want or has the Socialist Hopium addled your brain?

Seventytwosunsetstrip · 14/03/2023 22:25

@GPTec1 it was in fact the UK Govt which failed to deport him back to Iraq.

Blossomtoes · 14/03/2023 22:25

Do you think you could manage not to be so rude?

It doesn’t matter how much I might want to “fix it”, I can’t. Of course I don’t know how to “fix it” because I’m not a politician and have no access to the information needed to make changes. And, yes, I do want a political party in power to “fix it” which is why I want to see the back of the worst government of my life time.

Now let’s see if you’re capable of participating in a civilised, adult conversation.

Seventytwosunsetstrip · 14/03/2023 22:29

@GPTec1 it was in fact the UK Govt which failed to deport him back to Iraq.

Apparently, he not only changed his name but converted to Christianity, then claimed he would be persecuted if he was deported.
While this application was pending he decided to go and blow up Liverpool Maternity Hospital and blew up himself instead.

Seventytwosunsetstrip · 14/03/2023 22:42

@Blossomtoes And, yes, I do want a political party in power to “fix it”

Well in the absence of a credible alternative from Starmer ( who blames low pay on immigration) we have to make the best of what we've got.

Thsi is what has been going on at the BBC, for quite some time...

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2023 08:59

Why are you surprised at this?

The bigwigs at the BBC are appointed by government, so there will be bias and/or criticism to whatever party is in power.

That's why IMO it's time to reorganise such an outdated institution.

There was a similar brouhaha with the BBC v Blair over the Iraq War

Blossomtoes · 15/03/2023 09:51

Why are you surprised at this?

Who’s surprised? It’s pretty obvious that the BBC is the government’s mouthpiece. It needs a complete clear out at the top with a board, chairman and DG formed of industry experts with no history of political affiliation.

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2023 11:03

I didn't say I was surprised.
