What is going on at the BBC right now?

What with the news breaking today ( 10/03/23) that Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day and now Ian Wright is also not going to appear on the show in solidarity. They also have said that they will not air a David Attenborough (what the hell did he do/say that pushed their buttons) episode due to fears of a right-wing backlash. On top of that, Fiona Bruce has said that Stanley Johnson 'only' broke his wife's nose once (I mean just how many times is too many, I ask ye).

What the hell is going on at the BBC right now????

Sources:
David Attenborough being cancelled
Gary Lineker stepping back from MotD
Ian Wright standing by Gary
Fiona Bruce story

Just wondering if anyone can make sense of what is going on in the BBC at the moment.

Fuck the BBC, bunch of bootlickers.

You don't have to watch it.

He isn't a commentator.

commentator
noun
a person who comments on events

What would you call him?

Believeitornot · 10/03/2023 19:57

Moonicorn · 10/03/2023 19:56

I listen to him most days. He’s awful - sexist and intolerant.

If he’s so sexist and intolerant…..

Why do you listen to him most days??????

Liar.

In 1930s Germany, the Nazis used the law to gradually excluded Jews from public life, certain professions, and education. The goal of Nazi propaganda was to demonize Jews and to create a climate of hostility and indifference toward their plight…

How is that different to what Suella is doing?

Making asylum seekers illegal, making it impossible for them to work, shipping them off to Rwanda, creating a climate of hostility and indifference.

That is what GL is referring to.

Agree it is exactly the same.

MissingMoominMamma · 10/03/2023 19:57

Alan Shearer is also in solidarity.

Footballers have such power; Marcus Rashford with feeding children for example.

It’s so good that some take social responsibility along with the money. All power to their voices.

I don't agree with him either

Nothing like Nazi Germany, insulting to Jewish people

It's easy to have these opinions when you are very wealthy and you are not affected

If it walks like a duck and qualks like a duck....

Because the Jewish people were Germans, with exactly the same rights as any other person to live in Germany as an equal citizen.

Refugees/migrants do not have British citizenship. Unless you think everyone, world over, has the right to be treated like a British citizen even if they’re not?

Probably won't be him then Grin

100% this. ^ And as a few posters have said, the far left are far more vocal and vitriolic than the far right in many ways. And also, as you said, people are happy for people right wing/right of centre to be 'cancelled,' but are throwing their toys out of the pram when the pendulum swings the other way.

Personally IDGAF if Linekar never comes back, OR Wright OR Shearer. I struggle to find a single fuck to give. Replace all the presenters. They are all overpaid and full of themselves anyway.

I find Linekar nauseatingly smug, and irksome, and he thinks he can say what he wants WHEN he wants. Clearly he cannot, and this has bit him on the arse.

And as you said, it's disgusting that Linekar compared the situation to Nazi Germany. Shame on him.

And as a few posters have said, the far left are far more vocal and vitriolic than the far right in many ways.

Yes, people who believe in the superiority of the white race, and Jews and black people are sub-human aint half as bad as those loony lefties who want think asylum seekers should be treated with respect....FUCK ME.....

LakeTiticaca · 10/03/2023 19:00

Gary Lineker should remain impartial and do the job he is paid for, presenting the football. His tweet about comparing the illegal immigration to the national holocaust was insulting and uncalled for, but it seems the Jews are still fair game for taking potshots at.
Those who are shouting the loudest about letting all comers into the country are those least likely to be affected by suddenly having 200 twenty-something men dumped upon their community. It won't affect Gary is his nice gated community.
Gary, Ian Wright et al were all quite happy to pocket large sums of money on the back of the abused migrant workers in Qatar weren't they!!
One thing worse than a champagne socialist, a bloody hypocritical one!!

Why should he remain impartial?

He didn't say it in oaid time, he said it in his private Twitter account in his own time!

He didn't compare it to the holocaust

He saud the language being used was like that if the 1830's Germany.

I

John Motson RIP was a commentator.

Closdifficile · 10/03/2023 19:40

@letthemalldoone why are you so incensed by him ? How does it affect you ?
I guess what you don't like is the fact that he's a vocal remainer and critic of the tories. He's got a huge following and can influence a certain section of the electorate.
Of course Tory MPs and their acolytes are gunning for him.

I am not "incensed" - couldn't be arsed to work myself up to that extent, but I think the salary he - and others - are paid is obscene.

I can't stand the fucking Tories, and I'm also a Remainer. Go figure.

theworldhas · 10/03/2023 20:00

The BBC sold out to the right wingers more than a decade ago in a desperate attempt to survive the populist onslaught. This is just its final death throes. I won’t be sad to see the back of it if this does for it once and for all as it’s always been safe conservative establishment at heart. Shame about the nature docs etc though.

Oh so it’s like that is it? The Nazis didn’t just treat Jews that way, by the way.

She is saying that they cannot even become British citizens because they are not good enough.

Why not treat them as human beings? And let them have the chance to become British citizens instead of portraying them as greedy invaders who could never achieve such status?

This is exactly the kind of brainless nonsense which makes people believe the left are both a) not very bright and b) vitriolic.

The BBC is terrified of this government and as for Fiona Bruce, the woman is an ambassador for Refuge and says this on their website:

Fiona Bruce
Ambassador
“I was honoured to be asked by Refuge to become an ambassador and I immediately accepted. Without Refuge, hundreds of women and children would have nowhere to go. No one to help them escape daily horrors in their own homes.”

She could have said "Stanley Johnson was not prosecuted for breaking his wife's nose" rather than going with the line that his friends say it was a "one off", surely if she has connections with Refuge she knows that these things are not "one offs" (and even if it was, it is still inexcusable). It is also a matter of public record that Johnson Snr's wife had a breakdown as a result of his abuse

Precisely.

I totally agree with Lineker, so do millions of others.

Absolutely. I hope no potential pundit will agree to appear on the programme tomorrow.

Fluffymule · 10/03/2023 20:03

The BBC have commented on The Guardian story about David Attenborough to correct their inaccurate reporting.

"This is totally inaccurate, there is no ‘6th episode’. Wild Isles is – and always was - a 5 part series. We acquired a separate film for iPlayer from the RSPB, WWF and Silverback Films about people working to preserve and restore the biodiversity of the British Isles."

This is true but doesnt make what he now says on this subject, irrelevant

But does make you wonder what the BBC would have done if he had spoken out about that as well?

Linekar did a big piece to camera about Qatar at the start of the coverage, that was obviously approved by the Beeb itself.

Quveas · 10/03/2023 20:03

We all know exactly what '1930s Germany' was a precursor to. That is the point. To post such offensive inflammatory crap is not ok.

Judging by the last ten pages, that's simply not really true. The only offensive inflammatory crap is coming out of the mouths of ministers, who are happy to inflame racists over a clickbait slogan that they have admitted they themselves doubt will ever happen.
