Do You Have A Roast Every Sunday?

I did growing up ( or most weeks at least) but certainly don’t now. It’s probably about once every couple of months. Occasionally have a mini roast midweek. DH really isn’t that bothered & thinks it’s a lot of effort but it doesn’t need to be if you get organised. We’re having a frozen turkey joint today with roast spuds /carrots, stuffing, fine beans, broccoli & homemade bread sauce. I’m about to peel the spuds & carrots to get it out of the way.

Every week without fail.

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 05/03/2023 13:40

No. Too expensive to do in the oven. It's mostly quick stove-top meals now.

ClaraThePigeon · 05/03/2023 13:40

No. I don't know anyone who does but I think it's much less common here in Scotland, at least in my part of Scotland. You can get one in a pub/restaurant but I don't know of anyone who has one every week.

I have a roast dinner about 4 times a year including Christmas. The thought of having the same type of meal every week doesn't personally appeal to me.

No not every week. But then we sometimes have one midweek.

Kranke · 05/03/2023 13:42

We have only have one for Christmas dinner.

MsRinky · 05/03/2023 13:42

No, one every couple of months. Having one today though! Chicken, stuffing, yorkshires, roast potatoes, carrots, sprouts plus cabbage and a ton of gravy. Mmmm.

EyesOnThePies · 05/03/2023 13:42

No, very rarely, really.

But often do a meal that takes a bit more prep or is otherwise a bit special or a favourite in some way.

Tellmewhyyou · 05/03/2023 13:44

We typically have one most Sunday’s during the colder months as it’s really comforting. But once the weather improves and we’re out in the garden etc, we tend to switch it up to bbq’s, salads, burgers etc

Wallabyone · 05/03/2023 13:44

No! We didn't have one every week growing up, and now if I make a roast, it's more likely to be midweek. We're going to Nando's later!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 05/03/2023 13:45

yes, if you mean a large piece of meat or chicken cooked in an oven. No if you mean a load of unnecessary fiddly vegetables, cooked in a bland way .

Tonight is half a chicken ( there are only two of us) with leeks and preserved lemons in the same dish. Probably frozen peas as well.

ThePoshUns · 05/03/2023 13:45

More often than not. I quite like pottering in the kitchen on a Sunday afternoon with a nice glass of wine making it.

DappledThings · 05/03/2023 13:47

Most weeks. DH does all our cooking and he likes doing one. One of the few meals DC are guaranteed to eat without fuss as well which is nice

Silkierabbit · 05/03/2023 13:47

Generally yes and all love them.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 05/03/2023 13:49

Its a strange one this week for me actually, only cooking for 4, its normally for 6 or 8 and sometimes 10.

trulyunruly01 · 05/03/2023 13:49

Yes. I work a long day on Mondays so leftovers acts as dinner tomorrow, with a starter of soup if the leftovers are a little sparse.

MunchMonster · 05/03/2023 13:50

No. I think roasts are over rated.

meow1989 · 05/03/2023 13:51

Yes, usually, but only because pil have us round for Sunday dinner every week Grin

winningeasy · 05/03/2023 13:51

No.
Overrated

motleymop · 05/03/2023 13:51

We have a roast most weekends - often make it on Saturday and then have it heated up again on Sunday. Our toddler absolutely loves roast chicken and mashed potatoes, so it's an easy dinner for all of us.

Tinybrother · 05/03/2023 13:52

I did growing up, and we had leftovers in various forms through the week. A joint of meat for roasting is very expensive though so we can’t justify it each week but we do occasionally.

BrilliantUsername · 05/03/2023 13:52

We do but not cooked at home, local carvery.

openingbat · 05/03/2023 13:53

I love a roast and we always had one when the dc were here. Now they've left we tend to go for a walk and have one out somewhere.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 05/03/2023 13:53

Not every Sunday, no. More often in winter than summer - maybe twice a month. I also grew up having a roast (always beef) on Sunday, made by my grandma who was an amazing cook.

Just finished roast chicken with gravy, roasties and three veg - DH said it was one of the best he's ever had, so I'm pleased about that.

AdoraBell · 05/03/2023 13:54

Most weeks, but not obligation to have it every week.

davegrohll · 05/03/2023 13:55

I'm making a beef dinner today, absolutely starving now. Haven't made one in ages, new baby etc and just all seems like effort ! I like to make my own roasties but have got the frozen Mcains ones today which aren't too bad.
