Do You Have A Roast Every Sunday?

I did growing up ( or most weeks at least) but certainly don’t now. It’s probably about once every couple of months. Occasionally have a mini roast midweek. DH really isn’t that bothered & thinks it’s a lot of effort but it doesn’t need to be if you get organised. We’re having a frozen turkey joint today with roast spuds /carrots, stuffing, fine beans, broccoli & homemade bread sauce. I’m about to peel the spuds & carrots to get it out of the way.

I would happily eat a roast every Sunday but with work commitments, kids and life we just can't find the time every Sunday! We do enjoy a quick tray bake roast in the week though if we haven't had a proper roast.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 05/03/2023 16:59

No. I would love to but ds1 has footy matches on Sunday afternoons.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 05/03/2023 17:04

I have never eaten a roast dinner, lifelong strict vegetarian/vegan.

We rarely have a big cooked meal on Sundays as that's the day to be out walking, hill climbing, cycling, paddle boarding or whatever. It's more likely to be a packed lunch, eaten outdoors, or a cafe or takeaway.

I like a few roast potatoes now and again though.

No. Too expensive to do in the oven. It's mostly quick stove-top meals now.

I do mine using the pressure cooker (PKP) for the meat, the actifry for the roasties and the hob/microwave. Don't have them every week though. More like a couple of times a month. That's mostly because DS x 2 aren't keen though. Tonight I've done cheap pork shoulder in the pressure cooker for pulled pork. Serving with flat breads, salad, chips, tzatziki and coleslaw 😋

MamOfFive · 05/03/2023 17:05

Used too, but since the price increases in electricity & gas it's twice a month.

Treacletart9 · 05/03/2023 17:06

Not every week but a couple of times a month in the colder weather. Having roast lamb today with garlic and rosemary, roast potatoes cooked under the meat, Yorkshire’s (family love them) and lots of vegetables. Homemade brownies afterwards. Love a potter in the kitchen cooking with a wine and the radio on, fire in the snug whilst waiting.
Summer we’re outside so it’s BBQ and salads on Sundays.
DS’s at uni now, so it’s more about being together for a meal with some friends and family on a Sunday.

My favourite roasts are where my DH takes me out for lunch 😁

Nope. Have roast anytime i feel like. Although "traditional" roast i find really boring.

Me too. I much prefer a mid week roast.

zibbifydoo · 05/03/2023 17:07

Probably 3 weeks out of 4. Always have a roast if we are home on a Sunday. If we go out for the day then we don't

TellerTuesday · 05/03/2023 17:09

It wouldn't bother me if I never had a roast dinner again. Every Sunday without fail as a child which I think has contributed to my hatred of them now. Don't me get me wrong I don't mind a roast but only have one a couple of times a year now including Christmas dinner, just does nothing for me at all.

Motheranddaughter · 05/03/2023 17:11

We have one most weeks
I enjoy working in the kitchen preparing it,with the radio on and a glass (or 2) of wine
Roast beef, roast and mash potatoes,Yorkshire puddings, carrots, peas ,cauliflower cheese and gravy

Inastatus · 05/03/2023 17:13

Yes we do during the winter. We all love a roast with Yorkshire puddings regardless what type of meat it is. Today it’s slow roasted lamb with roast garlic and veggies. DH is cooking and it smells delicicious!

caringcarer · 05/03/2023 17:16

As a child my Mum roasted every Sunday and one day in week usually Wednesday too. I cook a roast beef/pork/chicken but not often on Sunday, more often Tuesdays as I have more time then. I do often part boil a ham then finish by roasting in oven with honey in addition on a Friday.

Basilandparsleyandmint · 05/03/2023 17:22

Yes love a roast on a Sunday Eve and always had one growing up. For us it’s a lovely end to the weekend when we can talk about the upcoming week abs plus it can be made healthily.
there is always leftovers which make for good quick easy meals or lunches.
My two do lots of sport so a lot of joints get put in slow cooker and prep night before means it is not harder than it should be cooking a meal.

InFiveMins · 05/03/2023 17:34

We have a roast most Sundays. Its my favourite meal!

Redglitter · 05/03/2023 17:35

MunchMonster · 05/03/2023 13:50

No. I think roasts are over rated.

Totally agree

TwinsAndTiramisu · 05/03/2023 17:41

Love everything about a roast. The food. The prepping and cooking with a glass of wine and Columbo on the kitchen TV. A big pile of lovely roasties and yorkshires. The whole family at the table, really tucking in. Leftovers in a sandwich the next day.

Absolutely want to get back to doing one every Sunday.

We haven't had one since Christmas dinner because DTwins won't sit still long enough to eat it, and are under my feet the whole time I'm trying to make it.

Can't wait until they are old enough.

Lulu2171 · 05/03/2023 18:00

Yes pretty much every week. We love it. Maybe every four or five weeks we'll do another special meal instead on a Sunday, like Mexican with all homemade trimmings. But usually roast with four/five veg and tons of gravy.

Fabellini · 05/03/2023 19:32

Most weeks in the winter, yes. My mum and ds2 come over so it’s nice to spend time with them too. Dp and ds1 are always here! I go between beef, chicken, pork, turkey, and change which veg we have, so it’s not exactly the same every week.
Once the weather is warmer we do as a pp said and have bbqs, salads etc.
I quite like doing it, and it’s the one time of the week we’re all together in the same place st the same time.

Tatapie · 05/03/2023 19:36

Most yes, tho less so in summer

DorritLittle · 05/03/2023 19:40

No. I was veggie as a teen and barely eat meat as a grown up. Sometimes I do one for the kids. I associate them with my Grandma coming round on a Sunday and my mum cooking a roast for her but clearly not enjoying doing it.

DeadbeatYoda · 05/03/2023 19:43

We do in the cold months. The kids all love a roast and it leaves meat for use in sandwiches and a meal on Mondays.

LegoLady95 · 05/03/2023 19:44

Every Sunday, around 5-6pm though so not lunchtime. I love pouring a glass of wine at 4pm when I start the roasters.
Best meal of the week.

LifeAtForty · 05/03/2023 19:45

Yes, usually weekly in the colder months. Was such a tradition for me growing up and my kids love a roast too! We all sit down together and it's such a lovely, cosy ritual. Sometimes though I will just do a casserole and roast potatoes - cheaper and easier than roasting a joint of meat and largely depends how much time I have!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/03/2023 19:46

We eat quite ad hoc through the week due to differing schedules, but both DH and I are off on Sundays and both teen DC work on a Sunday, so I do a Sunday dinner for us all for when they are both back from work. It's one time we definitely sit together to eat a meal and catch up with each other.

Plus we then have leftovers for tea the next night, so it's cook once and eat twice!

garlictwist · 05/03/2023 19:48

No. We are normally out and about on Sundays. Plus roast dinners are one of my least favourite meals.
