Do You Have A Roast Every Sunday?

I did growing up ( or most weeks at least) but certainly don’t now. It’s probably about once every couple of months. Occasionally have a mini roast midweek. DH really isn’t that bothered & thinks it’s a lot of effort but it doesn’t need to be if you get organised. We’re having a frozen turkey joint today with roast spuds /carrots, stuffing, fine beans, broccoli & homemade bread sauce. I’m about to peel the spuds & carrots to get it out of the way.

I did when DH was alive but now it is just me and a 2 year old I can't be bothered most weeks. When DD or DS come over on a Sunday I love to cook a roast for us all.

piedbeauty · 05/03/2023 19:57

No. Because we're often out on days out or away etc, and having a roast means you're tied for the day then too stuffed to move after!

gohomeroger1 · 05/03/2023 21:07

Probably about once a month. Finally got my 4 year old liking them. I only do it when we don't go out during the day so I am not rushed.

Nope, don't understand all the love for them

All the time, money, effort and washing up and there's just too much food, which isn't particularly exciting, and I always feel overfull.

Had one today in a pub and that was my first one since Christmas day.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/03/2023 21:15

Never.

As others have pointed out, 'Sunday roast' just isn't a part of the culture in most of Scotland. It's something my family never ever bothered with, and I don't know anyone else's who did either.

Sure, you can go to a pub if you are specifically looking for that sort of thing, but Sunday dinners were as likely to be any other sort of meal, and 'roast' anything was rare.

Aquarelles · 05/03/2023 21:17

My ex DP insisted on one every Sunday and I dutifully cooked it.

I am taking great delight in cooking Whatever The Fuck I Want now that we're separated Grin

JustSoTired23 · 05/03/2023 21:19

Pretty much every weekend
. Plus another in week sometimes but that's a quick roast like frozen veg. And a small gammon in air fryer or something.

MsPrism · 05/03/2023 21:20

Me too! I love it.
We only really eat at the dining table on Friday night and Sunday night and it feels like an occasion, I use serving spoons and dishes that were my grandmother’s so it’s an act of remembrance for me as well. I have her silver canteen of cutlery that we use for special occasions too. DH and DD are oblivious but it means a lot to me.

elQuintoConyo · 05/03/2023 21:33

No, and I've never cooked one, I'm 45.

NomadicSpirit · 05/03/2023 21:34

Nope. Last time I had a roast was Christmas Day.

kitsuneghost · 05/03/2023 21:40

Never. Hate them

Okunevo · 05/03/2023 21:43

I did at Christmas. I've done jerk chicken and cauliflower in the oven, and roasted butternut squash for soup, do they count?

Okunevo · 05/03/2023 21:46

Sundays I usually make soup for lunches and something like a bolognese or casserole for the next few days.

We used to do a roast when ds was younger, but now he works PT most Sundays we rarely go to the effort for just the two of us and just go with what we fancy. It could be something basic or a special treat. Tonight was soup and a sandwich then apple pie with custard 😋

FunnysInLaJardin · 05/03/2023 21:56

No, probably about once a year tbh

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 05/03/2023 21:57

How can someone get deleted from a thread about roasts?! Very curious what she posted!

Yes, most Sundays. We love a roast with the trimmings. 😋

roseberrycherry · 05/03/2023 22:01

Every Sunday

Snowpaw · 05/03/2023 22:07

I like to roast some kind of meat most weeks but I don’t always bother with all the sides. For example today I roasted a lovely beef joint and we had it with horseradish sauce, gravy plus mash and some kale. Or I might do a chicken and roast potatoes to have with a salad or frozen peas.

I tend to do a full roast with lots of sides maybe once every couple of months when friends / family come over.

ODFOx · 05/03/2023 22:12

Usually yes but not today.
I had some leftover gammon in the freezer from last week so I poached the chicken instead of roasting and made a chicken, ham and leek pie for today. ( and 2 pot pies for DD to take to her BFs for lunch tomorrow.
Chicken Chow mein tomorrow evening.
Then the leftover chicken and stock will go in the freezer.

Logicalreasoning · 05/03/2023 22:26

We used to, not had one every week now for about 8/9 years.. we have it about. Every 3/4 weeks now, just depends if we are busy or not...

Clevs · 05/03/2023 22:28

Yes, it's the best part of the week 😋

Neverknowinglysensible · 05/03/2023 22:51

Like many others, a roast, for us, is a winter thing.
I used to really stress out cooking Sunday dinner, but now it’s my absolute no brainer meal. I still can’t match my late mum’s legendary gravy but, even if I say it myself, my roast potatoes are very acceptable!

Snugglemonkey · 05/03/2023 22:52

We do have a roast most weeks. Sometimes we will have other things though. It is usually our most expensive meal of the week. I vary things though. It is not necessarily roast meat and potatoes. It might be a slow cooked leg of lamb Moroccan style, with couscous, preserved lemons, and roasted butternut squash, peppers and asparagus (last Sunday), or gammon, mash, peas and roasted root veg. (today).

Next Sunday, we were going to be having roast chicken, but because our plans have changed, we will not have a lot of time. So I will make mash in advance, to microwave, alongside something quick like steaks or lamb cutlets.
