If you won the EuroMillions, what would be the first thing you'd actually go out and buy?

As per title, imagine you've somehow suddenly just come into a huge amount of money. What would be the first thing you'd go out and buy? Not talking about houses, cars etc. as all that will come with time. Also assuming that you are going to donate a healthy portion to charity and those you know who need it. I mean the first thing you're actually going to leave the house and spend money on for yourself?

I would go to the nearest nice department store and buy every permutation of the Chanel perfume products so all the soap, body creams, talc, sprays etc. and a big bottle of each eau de parfum. Would probably buy a nice bottle of champagne too but still be too scared to buy Cristal or the like!

I would also book my campervan in for a full body restoration and engine rebuild.

Refrosty · 08/02/2023 10:46

I'd go on a massive spending spree in multiple bookshops, and invite anyone interested to join me. You know, since I'd eventually quit working, I'd need something to read on holiday or in my brand new reading nook.

Batcountry8 · 08/02/2023 10:46

Straight down our local award winning Indian restaurant and no worrying about the bill 😊

fancyfrogs · 08/02/2023 10:47

A new iPad for me to do all my shopping, holiday booking and house hunting on 😁

If you really won't let me go straight out and buy a bigger house, then I would walk through Liberty and John Lewis just buying anything I liked the look of.

I am always so careful and restrained in what I buy. Do I really want this? Is this the best price? How much use will I really get from this? Do we have space at home? So dull. I would like to be free of all that carefulness.

Oh yes I always say to DP when we are in John Lewis that I'd love to just be given £10k and an hour in there to buy what I liked, so it would probably be one of the first things I did if I won the lotto!

EllaVator · 08/02/2023 10:48

Car, house, holiday, private schooling for DD. Probably all within a week and in that order! Grin

Ontopofthesunset · 08/02/2023 10:48

We'd probably go out for a nice dinner to celebrate but I can't think of anything I'd buy immediately. There isn't anything I want that I can't afford (very lucky I know, but I don't want much in the way of clothes or perfume or things) except possibly a second home though I'm ethically torn about having one even if we could afford it. Then we'd do things like get the bifold doors replaced as no one seems able to repair them....

mumda · 08/02/2023 10:50

I'd put the heating on full. Crack open some nice biscuits and spend three hours on rightmove and ring some estate agents.

Floomobal · 08/02/2023 10:52

Very short term, a case of champagne, and a teppanyaki lunch at our local Japanese.

Online, order the cutlery set I want (it’s £1400 so can’t justify it currently). And a Wedgwood dinner service.

Tomorrow, choose a new car.

In the future, move house. We’re very lucky in that we currently have a lovely house with enough space at the moment for us and our young baby.

Januaryisthelongestyear · 08/02/2023 10:52

A huge bunch of flowers for myself from an actual florists, then subscription flowers for my mum, subscription coffee for DP and a trip to a travel agent to browse holidays. Sensible stuff can wait.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/02/2023 10:52

And a rule that the money MUST be spent in the hour, and could not be used for anything useful, like appliances.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 08/02/2023 10:52

The immediate thing I would do is book me, DH, DC into a fabulous suite in a hotel, maybe Claridges. To contemplate what’s next and chill the fuck out. Order room service, swim, pamper, walk around the city etc for a few days

Floomobal · 08/02/2023 10:56

New superking mattress and latest iPhone

Rebel2023 · 08/02/2023 10:57

Oooh

It would be 1of 3 things depending on time/day

Working - message the guy that I want my fitted wardrobe doing and pay him
Day off - I'll be in selfridges beauty hall doing serious damage Grin
Evening/late - takeaway

BeesAndCrumpets · 08/02/2023 10:58

Heating! HA - that was the first to spring to my mind too, while I sit here near freezing. A consistently warm house would be wonderful.

The first thing I'd buy is petrol in my car (always empty), and then drive it to the coast to breathe a bit - kids and DH too. Definitely stop at a good service station for all the snacks on the way - no expense spared!

And appreciate the car that I wouldn't have to sell.

Actually if I was working I would probably just walk downstairs and buy the car I want Grin

AwkwardPaws27 · 08/02/2023 11:02

An All Saints leather jacket, & a lot of selfcare - massage, facial, mani pedi, & get my hair cut & professionally coloured after years of box dyes.

Then I'd ring Zoe Napier to book those all important house viewings!

evtheria · 08/02/2023 11:03

A proper haircut with layers and colour.

Can't afford to have it done, especially with my hair length, so I just trim it myself and pray it's not wonky!

whoruntheworldgirls · 08/02/2023 11:04

The best champagne i could get then book an intensive driving course so i can learn over the course of a week or so.
Then i'd start on the holidays Grin

ME, PLEASE!

But you'd also need a chauffeur to deliver the boxes of books back home, I went into the bookstore last week and mentally totted up the books I wanted... I wouldn't be able to carry them!

InvincibleInvisibility · 08/02/2023 11:06

A sofa and a haircut and colour.

Then a kindle and a load of books. The problem would be how to get kindle delivered as Amazon doesn't deliver to this country 🤦‍♀️

Newtonsnipple · 08/02/2023 11:06

I'd take the dc out food shopping.

Sounds boring but I've already thought about this and I think it would truly bring me joy to see the look on their faces.

Just being able to have the pure freedom to pick anything up, no having to put things back, or tot it all up on my mobile phone calculator as we go round or see their faces fall when they know we can't afford to get a particular thing they like this week.

Just telling them to put whatever they want in, you can have yoghurt AND jelly go nuts!

And, on a more selfish note, to rub it in that cashiers face. The one who always sneers when I pull out the food vouchers for school holidays, despite one dc being visibly disabled.

Obviously, buying a lovely new house and all the amazing places you could go to would be really high up on the list as well. But weirdly enough it's the shopping trip I fantasize about, probably because it's one of the biggest causes of weekly misery at the moment.

Spendonsend · 08/02/2023 11:08

Tickets to some west end shows for the whole family, a clothes shopping trip for us all and some art work from an artist I like.

EmptyPlaces · 08/02/2023 11:09

Top of the range MacBook and iMac with an adjustable height desk.

Bookist · 08/02/2023 11:14

Book first class flights to a rustic but luxurious hotel in Norway (I follow it on IG) with views over a beautiful fjord. I would sit by the roaring fire and jot down all my plans and dreams in my new Smythson journal.
