If you won the EuroMillions, what would be the first thing you'd actually go out and buy?

As per title, imagine you've somehow suddenly just come into a huge amount of money. What would be the first thing you'd go out and buy? Not talking about houses, cars etc. as all that will come with time. Also assuming that you are going to donate a healthy portion to charity and those you know who need it. I mean the first thing you're actually going to leave the house and spend money on for yourself?

I would go to the nearest nice department store and buy every permutation of the Chanel perfume products so all the soap, body creams, talc, sprays etc. and a big bottle of each eau de parfum. Would probably buy a nice bottle of champagne too but still be too scared to buy Cristal or the like!

I think I posted earlier on this zombie thread. I would still buy a very nice 3 bed apartment in Notting Hill, close to Holland Park, with underground parking. Or maybe in Dorset Square. I like both areas.

CeriB82 · 26/03/2023 18:26

audi dealer and buy a Q7.

Throwncrumbs · 26/03/2023 18:57

A private consultation at the local private hospital for my ‘fast track’ two week hospital appointment which is actually 8 friggin weeks!

ladygindiva · 28/03/2023 11:51

A pair of doc marten sandals for the summer

xogossipgirlxo · 28/03/2023 11:58

House or piece of land we want and second car so we don't have to share with husband. This would resolve many, many logistic problems for us. Obviously servicing, MOT, insurance etc. won't be a problem, as I'm millionaire now.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 28/03/2023 12:00

I love that op said 'not house or car' and many people respond with 'house and car'

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/03/2023 12:05

Lots just read the title but even then it’s also unrealistic that your first purchase would be property. As if you’d hold off for weeks or months and not buy anything special like a nice meal.

😂Many of us got too carried away and didn't read main post, just the title.

Fair enough. First thing I'd buy then would be proper leather tote bag and new glasses.

Good choices!

A painter and decorator. I can’t be arsed and I’m too tight to pay someone to do it.

DraftPunk · 28/03/2023 13:07

A cashmere jumper in a lovely independent clothes shop I walk past every day. It is grey with a purple trim and “spring weight”.

I absolutely cannot justify getting it.

So, that.

eyerings · 28/03/2023 13:33

I'd start with PRESENTS for everyone. Drone for eldest child, ps5 for middle and lego for youngest. Snazzy bean to cup coffee machine for my DP. Whatever my parents and siblings wanted. Then a house of my own, nothing fancy, just mortgage free, in a local village, with a garden, parking and decent sized rooms.

It's because they're not reading the title properly, and probably not reading the opening post at all.

And haven't realised it's not "how would you spend your winnings?" but "what would you actually buy on that first day of realising you've won" when you might not have has the main prize transfer at all, but know it's inbound, so you can through caution to the wind ..... doing what?

I'd get flowers, something nice to drink, possibly have a Chinese takeaway that night. And then maybe walk through the nearby area of Posh Shops thinking "I can now buy anything from here" and maybe if something jumps out at me, buy it on the spot.

bussteward · 28/03/2023 14:11

@SquirmOfEels I think until I had the big money in my account I’d be too afraid of buying a posh fancy thing. Flowers and a takeaway I could do, but I think I’d be frozen with “what if” at the thought of spending too much – what if I’m like that couple who had the numbers by their direct debut didn’t go through, or I’d misread the email and I’d actually just won a lucky dip? Plus the choice paralysis when you can buy ANYTHING – like a too-long restaurant menu. God, I’ve talked myself out of winning euromillions, it sounds very stressful.

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 28/03/2023 16:40

I think a celebratory (on the quiet) meal at our local seafood restaurant to give DH and I time to think and plan.

My first physical purchase would be a pair of oval diamond earrings I have been admiring from afar for some time.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 28/03/2023 18:34

I genuinely can’t think of anything I want or need right now, though I’d definitely be getting a lovely, big detached house in the country,
a central London pied a terre and a really comfortable car as soon as I could.

When I inherited some money a few years ago, before I knew exactly how much or got my mitts on it, I checked with my dad that it was
affordable and then bought two silk dressing gowns from Toast that I’d been coveting, and pairs of tickets for a whole season of shows by one of my favourite dance companies.

ChickenMaths · 28/03/2023 21:45

@SquirmOfEels you put it better than I did! 😂

I would be extravagant and put the heating on before heading out. It’s an old house that takes ages to feel warm, so would be lovely to know I’d be walking back into a warm home.

Would then go into my nearest town. I would stock up on really decent, good thread-count bedding. A really good bottle of red wine. A nice piece of fillet steak and some sides. And a lovely, cosy-looking cat bed (in the full knowledge that cat will probably ignore it!).

Would the come home and phone the decorator I can no longer afford. I would offer him double his rate to drop everything to come and finish decorating my house as I’ve had enough of trying to do it myself. I’d tell him that I’d also pay for all the clients he’d be letting down.

Would then cook/eat my dinner, drink the wine, make a fuss of the cat (who would be curled up on my feet and ignoring the cat bed). Then I’d fall asleep in my new bedding, dreaming of all the people I’m going to help out (and the new house/car!)

AbreathofFrenchair · 02/04/2023 13:07

I'd finish my Terry Pratchet discworld collection so would buy the rest of the books in the style I've already started

And the reading chair I want from IKEA

(The chair is new in and comes I'm a dark charcoal colour and is mega comfy. I'm now stressing that it will either sell out and not come back before I've saved or it will come out in different colours that I may like more, the charcoal colour however, will go in most rooms, such problems I have eh?!)

Totally get this. Husband says he would hand his notice in immediately, I would wait till it was definitely in my account and had all gone through and would want to remain anonymous too, but don't know how well that works?!

Keepthetowel · 02/04/2023 13:11

A family guided tour of America, all arrangements taken care of by someone else, I’d like to visit the Deep South, so would need an armed guard

I need to lose weight urgently so I'd get chef prepared calorie counted meals delivered daily and a personal trainer.

Me too. Then I’d buy a house and a pied a terre abroad.

NerdyIsMyMiddleName · 02/04/2023 13:14

A holiday to the Galapagos islands for all of us - I've always wanted to go!

NerdyIsMyMiddleName · 02/04/2023 13:15

And a big purple velvet Bluebell sofa from sofa.com 😁

larkstar · 02/04/2023 13:37

I'm not joking when I say that I wouldn't think of myself first - I have a friend that has had an absolutely sh!t time over the last couple of years - it would be great to be able to help sort her life out. Family, friends and even my great neighbours of 20 years - I'd do something for them. For me, I'd probably try and see if my shoulder could be sorted out after routine decompression surgery left me unable to swim - I used to swim 600-900 lengths a week. Bar that, I don't live my life wondering about spending money I haven't got - never have done - I never have a list of things I want - I'm really hard to buy for - I can never think of anything so winning a lot of money really would be quite difficult for me.
