Who else is NOT HAVING A TAKEAWAY?!

I am tired, its been a long week at work, and I fancy a Chinese takeaway. But am determined not to waste my hard earned money. So am posting this for accountability. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

Do you mind my asking how much all that will cost? No judgement, just interested!

Their pizzas came to £35, my Chinese was about £20 (leftovers for lunch tomorrow too!) and dh ordered his curry just now, £25 also with leftovers for tomorrow.

We played freezer lottery. First thing I pulled out got made into a meal.

Wraps with spicy minced beef and salad.

We only have a takeaway once every two or three months now. Not only are they very expensive and tbf quite average, we find we enjoy them a lot more if we don't have one for a long time

Cat1313 · 04/02/2023 21:48

No though almost gave in as OH is out for his birthday and I am in with my 8 year old and 2 month old. In the end I had microwave wasabi vegetable gyoza yakisoba noodles from sainsburys (actually pretty good) and my lad got his favourite cheesy waffles. Tomorrow we are having Korean food though, so did not want takeaway 2 days in a row.

overthink4r · 04/02/2023 21:48

Gone from 2-3 per week (takeaways from a restaurant as apposed to a pizza/ kebab shop)

Don't have any now, meal plan for everyday and rant every so often about having to feed people.

Stick a bit of masking tape on the lid and write what it is and the date before you freeze it. Although it does remove the mystery and fun of "what's for dinner?" if it's labelled 🤭

Well done to all the non takeawayers. I've had bacon butties... not the same but staying determined not to crack.

To be fair, that’s not rhe way I’d avoid one..

ODFOx · 04/02/2023 22:15

I'm a full on home cook 95% of the time, at least for dinner. Tonight, while there was just the two of us, I asked DH if I could do fish fingers, oven chips and baked beans for a change. His face lit up like I'd offered him a thousand pounds. Then he cooked it for me.
It was blooming delicious! Better than any takeaway I can imagine: exactly what I fancied tonight.

BankOfDave · 04/02/2023 22:20

We rarely get takeout, mainly due to food allergies but also being disappointed. Luckily we both like to cook so it’s not so much of an issue.

londonmummy1966 · 04/02/2023 22:21

Me - did the big shop today and bought some yellow stickered stuff so had some of that and cooked the rest for the next couple of days. Also did my usual cba meal for lunch of chucking a load of slightly manky stuff in the soup maker so that there'd be room for the shopping in the fridge.

I didn't. I took dd and her friend to the cinema but made jacket potato's with cheese and beans and salad before we went. In the cinema had a bag of snack a jacks and a two finger Kit Kat. Feeling proud of myself

MarryMeTomHardy · 05/02/2023 09:00

Tesco do aromatic duck in the freezer section for about £7 - its the best I've found for coming close to takeaway..

daffodilandtulip · 05/02/2023 09:04

We've gone from one a week to one a month. Single parent and I also cook daily for work so I just get Sick Of The Cooking. Once a week now we will have a fake takeaway or supermarket pizza instead just so I don't go insane.

BrutusMcDogface · 05/02/2023 09:06

I spent over £60 on pizza express for myself and two of my kids last night! 😱😩

42isthemeaning · 05/02/2023 09:11

Not us.
We live rurally and we'd have to drive to get it, so not worth it.
Plus I'm doing intermittent fasting and can't eat after 7:30 anyway. I had a late lunch and wasn't hungry before fasting began...

Paradebrigade · 07/02/2023 19:14

We've not had a takeaway this year,i don't think. The expectation always far exceeds the reality never mind the price tag.

Venturescout · 08/02/2023 20:58

No takeaways here since early Jan,see how I go on Friday, might have a wobble as it's finally payday, will remind myself of the waste of money and try to be satisfied with a fakeaway instead 👊

Pinkbananas01 · 08/02/2023 21:00

Shepherds pie here tonight

SuperGinger · 08/02/2023 21:03

We don't ever have takeaways now

Munches · 08/02/2023 21:04

Thatsnotmybee · 04/02/2023 19:12

I had one last night and it gave me food poisoning. £15 to throw up for a day!

No way! What did you eat? Hope you’re feeling better?

Sparkleshine21 · 08/02/2023 21:32

No takeaway here, homemade enchiladas and three cornflake cakes 🙈
