Who else is NOT HAVING A TAKEAWAY?!

I am tired, its been a long week at work, and I fancy a Chinese takeaway. But am determined not to waste my hard earned money. So am posting this for accountability. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

We had curry and rice. Saving money by cooking it home. It's really good and we have leftovers.

Goingtobee · 04/02/2023 20:23

Nope, and we didn’t have one last night either - this time last year every Friday night was guaranteed! We’re eating late as been busy - OH is on with making Aldi crunchy fajitas from a meal kit.

Had a fakeaway op 😄

Had a fakeaway op 😄

One is never fooled by one’s own fakeaways though 😟

Neverknowinglysensible · 04/02/2023 20:31

Wishing I had bought a takeaway.
Had planned a coq au vin, but stupidly hadn’t checked for what are normally staples in our house and was too tired to do a total rethink. The end product was NOT a success.

Jenniferbennifer · 04/02/2023 20:34

Forget takeaways,it's fakeaways all the way in our house.2 adults,3 teens with huge appetites.
Simplycook.com is your friend for the takeaway experience minus the price tag.Try it for free, get 4 recipe kits, pay nothing with no commitment

We both get a completely free box and there are lovely takeaway replacements like bbq tandoori paneer, black bean chicken and seekh kebabs with gunpowder potatoes

PopGoesTheProsecco · 04/02/2023 20:35

OMG - I would LOVE a takeaway. Instead I’m batch cooking so DP and the kids have nice lunches.

I actually was by this one!! It was “Nando’s” chicken burger which is really easy to recreate 🙃

livingthegoodlife · 04/02/2023 20:42

Me. Frozen pizza here, posh crisps and dips - in front of the fire. Very cosy and lovely. Happy to save the money.

Jenniferbennifer · 04/02/2023 20:42

The thought of a takeaway is always so much better than the actual product.Tbh spending £40+ on a mediocre Chinese takeaway or Indian just makes me not enjoy the meal as its so expensive for what you actually get.

Jenniferbennifer · 04/02/2023 20:53

The expectation is always so much better than the reality, especially at the minute. It's just so hard to justify the spending on one meal, for us at least.

Geranium1984 · 04/02/2023 20:54

We've just had a charlie bigham

LadyOfTheCanyon · 04/02/2023 20:59

Our local kebab place does excellent halloumi kebabs with tons of salad and the most excellent garlicky mayo dressing. Combined with extra pickled peppers it's a delight. ( and chips on the side)

😘👌🏽

Lalala0 · 04/02/2023 21:02

Mayflower sauce from b&m tastes just like the Chinese! I make the whole box then freeze it! It makes 4 takeaway tubs!

Laalaapopo · 04/02/2023 21:05

Agreed@Lalala0,I get the mayflower Chinese curry pot from asda, add some peas to the pan whilst cooking and find it a lovely replacement for a Chinese curry sauce🍜

Doowop1919 · 04/02/2023 21:07

We had leftover spag bol from last night. No point wasting food or money!

Mirabai · 04/02/2023 21:08

My Friday Chinese fakeaway was: Blue Dragon chow mien sauce with turkey breast strips, water chestnut slices and roast cashew nuts, stir fry vegetables with ginger, and rice noodles.

Laalaapopo · 04/02/2023 21:11

The blue dragon pouches are also really good.I like the black bean one and use it with chicken and the packs you get with the baby corn with mange tout.Lovely served with white rice and so much cheaper than a Chinese takeaway

That sounds tasty.

Quornflakegirl · 04/02/2023 21:15

We haven’t had a takeaway this year. Tonight we had left over chickpea and halloumi curry. It was delicious!

Kravisbarker · 04/02/2023 21:17

Sometimes,if I am really craving a takeaway and nothing else will do,I will buy a main from the takeaway, but make the rice/sides/salad at home. That way,I get to satisfy my craving but keep costs down

Kravisbarker · 04/02/2023 21:19

Especially if I want aromatic duck or butter chicken etc where I struggle to get anywhere near to replicating at home.

determinedtomakethiswork · 04/02/2023 21:19

TheChosenTwo · 04/02/2023 19:12

Dc are just having takeaway pizza and I’m going to order a Chinese, dh is out (on his way home but fancies a curry so will
order his own when he gets in).

Do you mind my asking how much all that will cost? No judgement, just interested!

tobee · 04/02/2023 21:21

Me! Did burgers in a brioche bun, with chips and toppings of choice and homemade honey and mustard coleslaw a la Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
