Who else is NOT HAVING A TAKEAWAY?!

I am tired, its been a long week at work, and I fancy a Chinese takeaway. But am determined not to waste my hard earned money. So am posting this for accountability. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

I had one last night and it gave me food poisoning. £15 to throw up for a day!

Ok that's seriously annoying. Hope you are better

Never had a takeaway
Don't think they deliver to our village
Oh, the joy of living in the sticks!

Never? In your life?

I love cooking. I can cook really lovely food. But If I want to cook the amount of different food I can get from take away, it will cost a fortune. So, I don't think it's something extortionate, tbh.
If you think it is, you don't know how much effort went into the cooking, so if you don't appreciate, just don't get it, and make it yourself. It is cheaper, but not really, if you want all the different food, tbh.

We were tempted but no. I'm cooking now.

bloodywhitecat · 04/02/2023 19:53

Me. No-one delivers to here so I wait until one of my kids comes over to have a takeaway. I could drive but it wouldn't be fair on my fosterling who likes to be in bed and asleep by just after 6 most nights.

Slimjimtobe · 04/02/2023 19:53

I had an egg white (one whole egg) and veg omelette

We got into really bad habits re takeaways before Christmas and haven’t had one since then. Trying really hard both to rein it in a bit spending wise but also for health reasons. Actually don’t miss them as much as I thought I would.

femfemlicious · 04/02/2023 19:54

I'm having sainsbury chicken korma. £1.60😁

fairgame84 · 04/02/2023 19:55

Me. I've just made us fake chicken legends with hot and spicy mayo.
They were pretty good.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/02/2023 20:00

Takeaways have never been a regular thing here, but tonight we’ve had a Nasi Goreng (dh) and a chicken Pad Thai (me) both from Waitrose. The Pad Thai was reduced, £4.50. 🙂

Lightninginabox · 04/02/2023 20:03

We had people round so made 6 12 inch pizzas from an amazing stadler made dough recipe - been doing this a lot recently and it’s insane how easy it is to get as good if not better than the local takeaway pizzeria. Would have cost us £60!! Ingredients less than £10. Insane.

Lightninginabox · 04/02/2023 20:03

@Caspianberg wluld you share your roti recipe?

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 04/02/2023 20:03

Had pasta im really trying to cut back on takeaways

Caspianberg · 04/02/2023 20:06

@Lightninginabox - we used this roti recipe. Just bread flour, salt, water, butter basically. Roll thin. Fry in pan. Eat

whoruntheworldgirls · 04/02/2023 20:06

No takeaway here, cooked cajun chicken with roasted veg.
Really fancied an Indian curry though 😡

Mirabai · 04/02/2023 20:10

I have been not having takeaways since January and I feel virtuous but a bit sad. 😕

Tonight I had some madeleines and some maltesers.

Mirabai · 04/02/2023 20:10

I meant January 2022

DoesItMakeYouFeelBetter · 04/02/2023 20:12

We are not having one. We are skint 😭

maddiemookins16mum · 04/02/2023 20:13

We’re not, we’ve had lovely sirloin steaks for four for less than the cost of our cheapest Chinese order for 2.

MoggyMittens23 · 04/02/2023 20:13

Well done OP> stick with it. Yes, it will be delicious at the time, but you will regret it after

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/02/2023 20:14

Me! So want an Indian but can’t afford the money or calories- I made soft boiled eggs and soldiers - quick enough that I have no time to think about ordering

Flidina · 04/02/2023 20:14

Aldi pizza here for us, cant justify the price of takeaways now, and they're usually disappointing anyway. Kids were wanting KFC, they ended up with southern fried chicken strips and chips, both from the freezer.

Paturday · 04/02/2023 20:14

We would have had a nandos takeaway but stomach bug recovery means crunchy nut for both of us 😄 glad to not spend the money though!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 04/02/2023 20:17

Not a takeaway but DH is making a curry.

Margo34 · 04/02/2023 20:18

My DH is out last minute with mates this evening and he offered to buy me a take away on him, but it just seems unnecessary for one, especially as there is a single portion of a home cooked meal in the freezer..... tempting though. But not tonight. Freezer meal it is!
