What would you do if you won the Euromillions?

This is a frequent thought of mine, every time I purchase a ticket I think 'what if?'

What would you do if you won an unbelievable sun of money - £54,000,000 for example?

Set up an non profit affordable housing scheme in my local area.

Donate to our local hospital.

I'd love to be able to open a small school for children who have been bullied out of their local schools and create a really nurturing environment and include lessons on self defence and confidence building but not sure the money would be enough for a long term thing like this.

Give a a large cheque to an especially lovely nurse who went above and beyond when my DS was in SCBU.

Buy myself a big house and houses for family/friends.

DS is bullied so I'd pay for private tuition at home.

Pay for someone to take my laundry and bring it back washed and ironed weekly.

Pay for minor surgery I need doing (waiting list is forever because it's minor but it's still inconvenient and impacts me daily)

Hire someone to do all the crap I can't be bothered with and run my "schedule" so making dental appointments and other shitty admin (passport renewals, renewing house insurance) and then reminding me of said appointments (I'm shit at all that stuff).

I'd pay family and friends to take care of DS (12) for a month in our home so I could do nothing at all other than exist, I'm sick of always having to be ON - as a single parent I don't get any respite and haven't for years (other than the odd day) and I need to recharge properly.

If I heard of people locally who were struggling to pay vet bills I'd stump up the cash (also other random gifts if I heard someone couldn't pay rent, needed help with a food shop etc)

I'd stick random amounts of money in pockets of clothing items and in books at charity shops.

Ylvamoon · 02/02/2023 15:51

Start walking... with a small backpack and my debit card in my pocket.

I would collect people's stories and if they needed something (would have to be an everyday item) I'd buy it for them.

I would also run a charity type organisation for locals in tourist destinations. The main aim would be for locals to enjoy their own heritage and also provide a decent education for their children so thatthey in turn can build a stronger better community without the fat forging cats running the show. (This is inspired by a recent trip to one of the top tourist sites in the world- 90+% of visitors are from abroad. Locals don't have the £££ to visit these attractions / sites. But they do all the dirty work to make the tourist stay comfortable. This made me really sad.)

Deathraystare · 02/02/2023 15:54

And of course i would have a cleaner!

PatientlyWaiting21 · 02/02/2023 15:59

Quit my job, wouldn’t work my notice. Pay off mine and close ones mortgages. Build our dream home. Build my parents a home. Travel the world with our one year old. Buy property in holiday destinations. Donate more to local charities. Live a financially stress free life. Money doesn’t bring happiness but it sure as fuck helps.

Luckydog7 · 02/02/2023 16:07

Pretend my business has become massively successful so I can spend lots of money without people realising how much i have.

I love our street so I would buy one of the larger houses round the corner and extend/renovate as needed but it would only be 4/5 bed max, just want a downstairs loo and a big office, craft space and a bigger garden. Also buy big holiday house on the beach or the lake district.

Pay for private tutoring/speech and language for son with learning difficulties.

Spoil my friends and family with my 'sudden' earnings.

Start my own design companies.

Buy plots of land all over my area and plant forests or return to greenery.

Pay for a personal chef to help me lose two stone.

I wouldn't quit my job as i love it and i'm only a freelancer anyway, i would expand! upgrade my graphics computer, get a decent home office set up in new house. Stop hesitating to buy that website, pay someone else to build/maintain it.

Possibly run a tea shop until I get bored of it...

OH would retire and spend his days tinkering.

IHeartGeneHunt · 02/02/2023 16:12

Buy a house. Buy my siblings a house. Buy a big house and open a care home. Pay staff much more than minimum wage and make it lovely for residents. (I work in care and it's bloody awful, but I love the residents I work with.)

Have a housekeeper, have a beautiful classic car, give money to charities like Women's Aid, live happily ever after. Smile

bussteward · 02/02/2023 16:14

Big Inigo House house – or a big house and hire people to make it look like that.

Annual sessions with Marie Kondo herself to keep it looking like that.

A housekeeper, PA, cook and other staff so I never have to load a dishwasher, put away laundry, or write a shopping list on a fridge notepad again.

Pay off all friend and family mortgages and provide a lump sum because if I’m not working I want my pals around too, to go for walks with.

Probably something altruistic but mostly investing so I don’t have to work and can just float around my beautiful decluttered house in shapeless Toast dresses reading trashy novels (I’ll buy HARDBACKS at FULL PRICE) and eating fancy snacks.

BigWheels · 02/02/2023 16:23

I think about this so often. I know exactly how I would while away my hours after quitting my job.

Quit job
Hire a chef and personal trainer
Buy a house at the beach
Study vulcanolgy, linguistcs and economics just for fun
Take language lessons
Do a cookery course and a cake making course
Private school for my son
Donate to various charities
Volunteer at the food bank or with refugees
Set up some kind of funding program to help local businesses become more sustainable and enviornmentally friendly.

Greatly · 02/02/2023 16:25

The first thing I'd do is buy a Tesla.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 02/02/2023 16:29

I'd like to get a slightly bigger house nearer town, get it done up exactly to my wishes before moving in, newer car, update my wardrobe, give some to charities which I care about.

I'd give some to family and friends but not ridiculous amounts and would love to do so anonymously.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 02/02/2023 16:32

Get a boiler man, plumber, roofer and decorator in to fix my falling apart house.

Then get a cleaner in and an interior designer.

Then I'd get a manicure, pedicure, haircut, new wardrobe with stylist.

Then I'd give gifts to friends and family.

Then I'd fuck off on holiday.

mrsharrisgoestoparis · 02/02/2023 16:33

10 mil cancer research
10 mil for hospices
10 mil for disabled children's orphanages
Split the rest I am one of nine

Fluffygreenslippers · 02/02/2023 16:37

Buy a house, I know exactly where. A big house but not too big as I don’t like cleaning. It would be detached and have several out buildings for DHs motorbikes. He would obviously quit his hugely stressful job. I’m sure he would want to invest some money.
I would learn to drive and buy a car. Maybe a tesla.
When baby is older I would buy a horse probably. There’s no way I’d be able to afford one otherwise.
I’d give a lit of money to my FIL and hire a nurse to take care of crazy MIL.
I’d buy my mum a house & give her a monthly allowance, she cant be trusted with a lump sum, she’d spend it all on fridge magnets or something ridiculous.

Buy my siblings a house.
I’m not into travelling but DH can go with his dad.

Goldpaw · 02/02/2023 16:38

Buy a nice house on the south coast, buy a really good electric car, have loads of holidays, have a woodworking and pottery workshop in my garden and spend lots of time doing both. Set up a fund that awards grants to middle aged poor people who want to retrain in creative careers.

honeybeeandme · 02/02/2023 16:40

Wow! I'm so amazed at all your responses! All so generous and kind. Let's buy those tickets for Friday ladies! Have to be in it, to win it! Wink

Start shopping in Waitrose

This made me chuckle. How the upper class live lol!

In addition to my previous post, I would buy this house for us as we don't own- it's closeish to where we live and not my personal taste but would be easy to make fantastic - and at £700k here in Bath would make a good buy with£50k for changes

Tamarindtree · 02/02/2023 16:50

I would give a sizeable chunk to Kerry Elliman to aid her fight to end Greyhound racing.

Various animal charities would also benefit including Chaldon Animal sanctuary, Ty Nant Cat sanctuary and a few others.

Up the reward money for some well known missing dog cases.

Bigger donations to a couple of non mainstream political people and parties (can’t name them because of Lefty tears).

There used to be a respite holiday home for disabled people in Westcliff on Sea so I would like to set up (not run) a similar place.

honeybeeandme · 02/02/2023 16:51

I would:

  1. Talk to the financial advisor first (this is if I haven't already died from the shock).
  2. Immediately tell my parents (I can trust them with my life).
  3. Give my parents a large lump of money so they can both retire and do whatever the fuck they like!
4. Give some to OH's family and make them sign a waiver to keep quiet (OH's mother is a hairdresser, so talks for England to anyone and everyone).
  1. Go round to my dream house down the road and ask how much they'd want to sell - I'd pay it.
  2. Get the interior renovated to my taste.
  3. Invest lots of the money and put £15 mill towards local business and charities.
  4. Set up a fundraiser for children in poverty.
  5. Buy both my closest friends a property.
10. Buy a Lamborghini Urus Grin 11. Pay the mortgage off on our house and rent it cheaply to a family in need.
  1. Once I've done all this, I would travel the world for a good few years, return every now and then.

X

Give most of it away to what I consider good causes.

XenoBitch · 02/02/2023 16:55

Have private therapy and get my teeth sorted.
Donate large sums to the dog rescues that need it.
Crack open some wine and browse GoFundMe, and donate anonymously to people.
Start a mental health charity. There is one local to me that is focused on gardening and nature. I would love to set similar up in towns that do not have one.
I would try and keep it a secret from most people I know. They would want money, and for some that would actually be dangerous.

Backstreets · 02/02/2023 16:59

I'd pay off my debts, buy a bigger apartment, get a cleaner and a PT. Honestly not sure what I'd do about work! I like my job and coworkers a lot but jesus it eats up a lot of time/energy and I hate having to get up so early in the morning! I'd need a big think about that.

I'd definitely quit my side hustles.

I'd donate to women's charities, children's charities and climate charities.

If we're talking an insane amount of winnings I'd buy property for my family members and friends who can't afford to buy, and pay off everybody else's debts.

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 02/02/2023 17:00

I would invest in property. Not just a house for myself but for family members who are struggling too.

Put some money in trust for DD and her cousins. Pay for DD's uni fees outright!

Find a clothes designer that can make me clothes that fit properly!

We have a really run down community centre. I'd like to pull it down and build something better, and properly equip it to the needs of my neighbours.

I'd like to buy a top of the range VW tourer and go travelling!

Weirdly, I might still want to work part-time. I like my job...it keeps me occupied.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 02/02/2023 17:08

Oooh, with £54mil?

Immediately buy the £1.6 million house just outside my town.

Go on holiday for a month - three weeks in Florida, Disney & Universal Studios, Kennedy Space centre, all VIP stuff, then somewhere in the Carribbean for a week.

Pay someone to furnish the house while we're away.

Got home, move in.

Give a million quid to both mine and dh's parents.

Give half a mill to siblings.

Get a personal trainer.

Get some plastic surgery.

Draw up some kind of legal document to stop DH spending every last penny on cars and motorbikes.

Go on lots of holidays.

When I eventually got bored, do another degree or a masters.

XenoBitch · 02/02/2023 17:15

Put the heating on for an hour 😅
