This is a frequent thought of mine, every time I purchase a ticket I think 'what if?'

What would you do if you won an unbelievable sun of money - £54,000,000 for example?

Pay off mortgage on both houses (accidental landlord situation after we couldn't sell our 1st house because 5yrs after buying there are still issues outstanding the builder is trying to resolve.
Do everything we want to do to our new (to us but 1860s build) house - kitchen, bathrooms, windows refurb, roof, heating system etc etc.
Pay off my mums & brothers mortgages
Pay off best friend's mortgage.
Give the 3 people above money so they can buy a really lovely place.
Get a new car
Get a housekeeper / cleaner
Negotiate part time at work (I actually love my job, I would like to work less but not quit altogether I'd be bored out of my mind)
Buy a gorgeous grand piano
Holidays every half term & school holidays
Invest money so we can very comfortable live off the interest

Probablymagrat · 02/02/2023 20:45

Turn the heating up. 😂Obviously sort out the kids, step kids, grandchildren, and my mum so they have a good income.

I would like to buy or build a house with a fair bit of land and plant forest. I would like to watch it be taken over by the wildlife, see how long it takes to establish as a proper eco system.

I've got a list of charities that would recieve substantial anonymous donations. They are all quite small but make a difference to lots of people and/or animals.

I'm not really fussed about travel, I've been to most places I want to go apart from Canada and Iceland, so I'd take a couple of trips.

Spendonsend · 02/02/2023 20:50

I would set up a charity that provided day time activities for adults with learning disabilities or autism who would not be able to work. Then after they went home the same facilities would be used for after school care for teens with a similar profile. There would be gardens, animals, crafts, cafe, ot rooms and minibuses to go on outings. There would be carer coffee mornings too.

Pedallleur · 02/02/2023 20:59

Move somewhere warm or rent nice places in the school holidays e.g. a villa with a chef. Invest the money where people who have money put theirs. My daughter need never work but she wouldnt know that until she has done her exams and thought about a career. I'd spend my last year's travelling and seeing places I've dreamed of seeing e.g. Japan or Samoa

sborber · 02/02/2023 20:59

You're not alone OP I'm always dreaming what if!

We'd buy a plot of land and build our house that DH has designed

Pay off my DM's mortgage, buy my DLB a house... Probably pay off my DF's mortgage.

Buy a second car and pay off the first one.

Probably bring home a second dog 🤣

Wouldn't want to quit my job, I'd like to still do something... or alternatively quit altogether and write the bloody book I've been saying I'd write for years.

And of course get a few holidays in the pipeline. I'd love to take my DM to Canada for her 60th.

I'd probably give a lump sum, say £1mil to our closest friends (two sets, each couple with kids).

Donation to the CHSF in memory of my DLS.

See, I haven't thought about it this much.... 🫣😅

Bemyclementine · 02/02/2023 22:35

To add to my previous reply, I'd have a series of dentists appointments. I have avproblem tooth (at least 1, but 1 in particular) and can't afford to have it fixed.

notprincehamlet · 02/02/2023 22:47

Move to Paris, visit galleries, drink good coffe, have good hair and good teeth, read, run, think big thoughts, savour the novelty of waking up and looking forward to the day

coronafiona · 02/02/2023 23:29

Pay for my house and buy a house for my children. Give some money, quietly, to those I know who need it desperately. Then invest it in something that gives me purpose and freedom.

XenoBitch · 02/02/2023 23:34

I just nabbed a ticket. Never do that. Am hoping for the best. Good luck, ladies.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 03/02/2023 11:55

I live here too! I don’t think I’d move my children out of their school either.

FelicityFlops · 03/02/2023 12:28

Stop work
Move house
Demolish existing house and rebuild to modern standards
Travel
I might also "share" some of my winnings with my immediate family and make a donation to my old school.

Seymour5 · 26/03/2023 17:55

Buy a bungalow near family, and a small flat in London overlooking the Thames. That would be for DH, who has always wanted to return but we couldn’t afford housing. Make sure our grandchildren are well provided for. Have a fabulous family holiday, somewhere warm. Serious monetary gifts to family and very close friends, BHF and homeless charities would also benefit.

GordonsAFGirl · 26/03/2023 20:05

Large thatched house locally with south west facing garden.
Encourage my poorly DH to retire.
Private hernia surgery for said DH.
Three bed house for single parent niece who has been left without child maintenance by feckless partner.
House for BFF ditto the above
Car for DD so we didn't have to share.
Funding for new female support charity.
Funding for education restart courses for children currently not attending school due to lack of support for SEN and poor mental health.
Perhaps a breast reduction for me because another twenty years of my massive J cup knockers will see me off.

Crikeyalmighty · 26/03/2023 20:08

Pay for a full body MRI to get to the bottom of my health/neurological post covid issues - been waiting 3 months so far

Buy a nice house here in Bath (we rent ) also buy a flat in London for son with room for my H to stay when he has to stay in London and a holiday flat in Majorca

Pay off our car

I would also like to set up a charitable foundation and run it and help various great schemes get off the ground.

AnnaZofia · 26/03/2023 21:39

Buy a bigger house, and another for DS. And pay of DS's GF's mortgage - they could then choose where to live with my grandchild (soon to be grandchildren). Set up nice big trust funds for all of them, of course.
Buy houses / pay off mortgages for close friends and family (if you have somewhere free to live you can manage on less and have more time for yourself/not be in a dead end job), or they could sell them and do whatever they pleased with the money.
Donate a substantial sum to Fluffy Retreat, a brilliant ferret rescue. Donate much more to Women's Aid or a similar charity which helps women.
For myself, I also would get a nice pied a terre in Bloomsbury for when I wanted to visit my beloved London. I'd visit Mongolia, Iceland and Japan (for starters), get my teeth fixed, and pay for a whole new bespoke wardrobe of Edwardian style ladies' suits.
I'd leave myself just enough to live comfortably.

Abcdefgh1234 · 26/03/2023 21:47

Move to ascot (buy a big house but not manor big, just normal 6 bedroom big house)

move my kids to lambrook school (well if its good for royal family, its good enough for me)

buy lots of houses and flats in central london as investment

have private chef, maid and chaffeur

Buy newest range rover for myself

start a good relationship with hermes sales associate so i can be invited to luxury launching and events.

buy lots and lots designer bags and watch etc.

buy my mom house and car in Bali as she wants to live there.

buy my sister house in miami (she lives there)

open trusts for both my sons.

build as mosque

and give to charity.

what a perfect life!

I would quit my job but i’m still gonna works as freelance consultant, because its boring not to do anything.

honeybeeandme · 26/03/2023 22:05

Tommy Lee from Motley Crue has a Starbucks in his house...which is one way to spend money I suppose.
I would definitely have a personal chef.
