This is a frequent thought of mine, every time I purchase a ticket I think 'what if?'

What would you do if you won an unbelievable sun of money - £54,000,000 for example?

Oh I'd also start a tongue tie charity as I honestly believe tongue tie is the root of so much trauma in new parents and babies. Food issues (ff or bf), weight gain, speech concerns etc.

sydneysunset · 02/02/2023 14:38

I’d buy as much land as possible and rewild it

Crikeyalmighty · 02/02/2023 14:41

Buy a house outright- buy my son a 2 bed flat in nice part of London with a garden (he loves dogs) - totally tone down work levels (self employed) buy a year old Volvo xc60 (ours is 6 years old) and take 4 months totally off work , book 2 weeks in Caribbean- give my 3 best friends £10k each as a present - set up a charity similar to woman's aid but provide deposits and funding to help them get a new start.

I would buy this Place mortgage free to live in;

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/123128405#/?channel=RES_BUY

i would then buy a house/apartment in Shinjuku, also 4 beds with a great view.

Final property purchase would be in south of France, or maybe LA.

I would quit my job and be a full time present mom. Maybe could even try for number 3!

I would give my mom, and both sets of in-laws (husbands parents divorced and remarried so there are 4 of them!) some money. I would buy a place for my brother.

Invest in a local business maybe.
Buy some gold.
Go shopping in Paris 😁

Why would you choose Walthamstow out of interest?

Iwantabloodypizza · 02/02/2023 14:42

VictoriaBun · 02/02/2023 14:23

@Iwantabloodypizza

No need to pack a bag with £54 ,000000
just leave 😂

Yes, fuck it. My clothes are all old and shit anyway 🤣

BawRamEwe · 02/02/2023 14:43

This is one of my favourite ways to waste time!

I'd go on a ridiculously expensive over the top holiday to start, quit my job, buy a lovely big house, pay off the mortgage on our flat and then do it up and rent it out really cheaply, probably get a lot of surgery so I look nothing like myself 😁

I'd put a lot in trusts for my kids and my nieces and nephews, buy my MIL and SIL a house.

Then I'd buy and do uip loads of properties and rent them out to families for below market value.

Oh, and I'd get a puppy!

mrsbitaly · 02/02/2023 14:43

Aww I think about this alot but what would give me great comfort would be to buy our house outright, buy our parents a house, stack loads of money away for the children for their future. Then sort remaining family and friends out. That amount is too much once all the above was covered I would want to help out local charities and invest.

Beezknees · 02/02/2023 14:47

With £54 million as an example I'd -

Hand in my notice at work immediately

Buy a house. I'm not flash, I'd buy a nice detached 3 or 4 bedroom property in my local area so DS could finish school here. Would be around £300k.

I'd also buy a nice 2 bedroom apartment in Central London as we love it there, that would probably set me back £1million.

Put away £10 million in trust for DS when he's an adult.

Give money to my friends and family.

Would have around £30 million left after all that. I'd spend my time enjoying life, travelling, treating my friends and family to things and making charity donations.

Justcallmebebes · 02/02/2023 14:50

Tell my boss where he can stick his crappy job and then jet off somewhere hot and very luxurious to leisurely plan the rest of my life

Alighttouchonthetiller · 02/02/2023 14:53

Give up work and spend a lot of time lying down on expensive furniture, reading and eating lovely food with the heating on full blast. I'd pay someone to come along every day and move my arms and legs about for exercise.

bigbluebus · 02/02/2023 14:55

Buy a house for DS and probably for my 4 nieces/nephews and pay off the mortgages of the other 2.

Have a couple of all family holidays (one for each side of the family).

Buy a house by the sea to retire to. I was brought up at the coast but have lived inland for the last 35 years.

Give lump sum donations to some charities we have close links with.

newtb · 02/02/2023 14:57

Get out of my grotty not up to standard rental. Get a new car and a Maine Coon or two. Not much else. Maybe a personal trainer.

Heyahun · 02/02/2023 15:01

Full time travel for sure !!

make sure they are super comfortable for the rest of their lives

become a philanthropist ! Do heaps of good things with the money

Spottypaperdoll · 02/02/2023 15:02

@Howeverdoyouneedme its where we are currently and we are happy here, I can’t even hypothetically begin to consider moving the kids out of school 😅

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 02/02/2023 15:06

I’d do nothing for a few weeks (other than getting the offered financial advice). Wait until someone won £6-10 million on the lottery and then tell those close that I’d won. The nosy ones would look and assume that’s what I’d won.

Then I’d set up a family trust to buy properties that my family wanted and rent them to them for £1 a year. That way they’d be protected from people meeting gold diggers and from arsehole husbands (yes cousins husband I mean you…).

You could then help people out over the years by saying I’d got money from my investments rather than people never being happy - no matter how much you gave some would see it as stingy when you had that much.

After that - set my kids up for life. Similar to Peter Jones I’d want them to work but if they did something charitable or worthy but low paid I’d top up their wage to a good income.

Set up a charity for running affordable kids activities.

The main thing would be the care I could buy for my youngest DD. So she could be well looked after, but life would also be a bit easier for all of us.

justgettingthroughtheday · 02/02/2023 15:07

I would buy a house with land. Room for horses. I'd also buy a smaller house nearer my parents so I could visit them easily and not have to stay with them.
Id go on a horsey shopping trip abroad and probably buy a horsebox too.
Id donate a hearty sum to cancer research.
Id have money to enable me to explore the journey for us to have a baby.

glasgow1983 · 02/02/2023 15:08

Temperature controlled kettle and Sage Barista coffee machine would be my first two purchases.

Nice house in a Glasgow suburbs. Luxurious interior.

High end car - probably something that could be obtained by a high earner on lease but which also appeals to me.

5* holidays and experiences, longer term perhaps a chalet in the Swiss Alps

Kidnap & rescue insurance

cunderthunt1 · 02/02/2023 15:11

Start shopping in Waitrose

RoseBucket · 02/02/2023 15:15

Buy a lovely apartment overlooking the see and have a lovely restaurant food delivered every night!

Deathraystare · 02/02/2023 15:15

Buy a home. Travel more. See my family was alright financially plus my friends. Also go on a big holiday with my friends after deciding amongst ourselves where we want to go. Once I got a house I would get some rescue cats!! I would still work as long as I could.

I would have my hair done (weekly blow drys) Also mani and pedi but not that awful gel stuff Oh and facials. Why not??

CharlotteRose90 · 02/02/2023 15:18

For me I would I buy myself a house and pay it off in full, I would also have the surgery I need and have waited years for. I’d also buy a new car.

for family I would give my brother the money to pay off his mortgage. My mum I’d give whatever she wanted.

as for work I think I would still work just part time so could use the money for travelling and still have my work life balance.

CaptainCorellisXylophone · 02/02/2023 15:22

Have thought about this a ridiculous amount.

Up to very large numbers, half for us, a quarter for DCs (2), the final quarter to share out among close family and friends.

Once the number gets really huge, can scale back the share for us and the children and hand out more to others and charity.

WinedropsOnMoses · 02/02/2023 15:30

Give my Dad a huge lump before anything else because he's fabulous.

Give my brother and sister and their families a lump too because they are also fabulous.

Buy a bigger but still modest house for me and my kids.Nothing ostentatious because I am a terrible housekeeper but very private, so wouldn't want somewhere I needed a team of staff to run. I'd like a library room with a fireplace, armchairs etc. though.

Start my kids on all the extra-curricular activities they'd love to do but I just can't afford right now.

Donate to the autism therapy centre that really supported and guided DS1 to become the confident chatterbox he is today.

I'd also like to get my teeth fixed and buy a tropical fishtank.

I'd still work, mainly because I would worry that it was all a big joke and all the money would be taken back 😁

mondaytosunday · 02/02/2023 15:33

I'd give £10m each to my sisters (there would be tax implications presumably, so if cover that too). I'd put £10m in trust for my children. I'd give £1m to each of my stepsons. That leaves about £10m. I'd buy a property in Chelsea for about £4m. Maybe a country house too. £1m to charity. Then I'd need the rest to live on!

emmama2 · 02/02/2023 15:35

Pay off mortgage, Get a financial advisor , Put DD into private school, Put some money in trust for DD , Put some of the money away to bring in some returns, buy a slightly bigger home (currently in a mid terrace two up two down) would like a 3 bed bungalow with a garden, buy my mum a flat, small bungalow nearby, give some money to family to set them all up, get another dog, look at getting a holiday home, go on a nice holiday. A girl can dream....
